Jett Bandy Designated For Assignment With Kratz Trade
Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jett Bandy has been designated for assignment after the Brewers traded for Erik Kratz from the New York Yankees. So far this season, Bandy is only hitting .188 with a .533 OPS so his defense that he brings to the table clearly is not enough to carry his hitting. With Stephen Vogt out for the entire year, the Brewers could be in the market for a catcher at the deadline this year, despite Manny Pina's solid defense behind the plate. Some names could include J.T. Realmuto if the Marlins decide to trade him. For now, Bandy holds no value in all formats.
The Milwaukee Brewers will continue to play "musical catchers" with Manny Pina starting and batting sixth on Thursday and Jett Bandy sitting. Bandy is 5-for-9 with a home run and two doubles against left-handed pitchers like Arizona's Robbie Ray, but manager Craig Counsell opted for Pina, who has a .786 OPS and a home run over the last 14 days. Pina has seven at-bats over the last seven days, compared to 11 for Bandy, so the Brewers may just be making sure that they have the freshest option in the lineup. The two have combined for seven home runs and 26 RBI, numbers that would make them the best offensive catcher if combined, but it is tough to pick one over the other. Fantasy owners that have roster room could keep both, putting the one that starts in the lineup.
