Free-agent infielder Joe Dunand signed a minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. Dunand made his major-league debut in 2022 with the Miami Marlins but played in only three games and went 3-for-10 with a home run, double, RBI and two runs scored. He spent all of the 2023 season in the minors with the Atlanta Braves and slashed .268/.362/.481 with an .844 OPS, 17 home runs, 19 doubles, two triples, 52 RBI, three stolen bases and 49 runs scored in 95 contests for Triple-A Gwinnett. The 28-year-old infielder will almost certainly begin the 2024 season at Triple-A Worcester while providing the Red Sox with infield depth at multiple positions.
Miami Marlins infield prospect Joe Dunand hit a walk-off home run in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the New York Mets. Dunand didn't start but ended up going 1-for-2 with a home run, a run scored and two RBI. The 25-year-old is now hitting .294 with a 1.015 OPS. Alex Rodriguez's nephew is unlikely to win a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he's showing that he can be solid minor league depth and could get the call if any Marlins infielder goes down for a significant amount of time. He's worth keeping an eye on in deeper leagues with extra bench spots.
