John Hicks Signs Minor League Contract With The Cubs

The Chicago Cubs signed free-agent catcher John Hicks to a minor league deal. He spent most of last season in Triple-A and had a brief 10-game stint in the majors. The 32-year-old slashed .258/.258/.677 with four home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored across 31 plate appearances for the Texas Rangers in 2021. Hicks will provide catching depth for Cubs but isn't on the fantasy radar, even if he is promoted at some point during the 2022 campaign.

John Hicks Delivers RBI Double

Texas Rangers catcher John Hicks brought some life to this offense during Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Hicks went 1-for-4 with an RBI double off righty Matt Manning in the second inning. The veteran catcher has cooled off since smacking four home runs in a four game span. Hopefully, this is a sign that Hicks is beginning to heat up at the plate again. He'll only be an asset in AL-only leagues and that isn't even a guarantee.

John Hicks Connects On Another Home Run Tuesday

Texas Rangers catcher John Hicks crushed a two-run home run and added an RBI single Tuesday versus the Detroit Tigers. Hicks is the first Ranger in franchise history to hit four home runs in his first four games with the team. The catcher has put up some decent numbers in his career. He could be a solid pickup if a fantasy manager's lineup is lacking a heavy-hitting catcher.

John Hicks Smacks Two Homers In Victory

Texas Rangers catcher John Hicks is taking advantage of his playing time with the organization. He recently had his contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock and is wasting no time. On Saturday, Hick went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the win over the Seattle Mariners. It was a nice showing from the veteran catcher, but he won't have long term fantasy value. Jose Trevino (forearm) is hopefully going to return soon, which should mean Hicks loses playing time. Regardless, it was a quality game for Hicks and he helped the Rangers get the win.

John Hicks Starting at First Base on Saturday

Detroit Tigers first baseman John Hicks will draw the start against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. Miguel Cabrera (knee) is out of the lineup and will undergo an MRI on Saturday. Hopefully Cabrera will be able to avoid the injured list, but we could see the Tigers be cautious with their veteran slugger. Hicks will bat fifth and play first base versus righty Mike Soroka. None of the Tigers hitters are worth using in DFS contests versus Soroka.

John Hicks Wears Platinum Sombrero Sunday

Detroit Tigers catcher and first baseman John Hicks accomplished a rare feat on Sunday, but not one that fantasy owners were likely too happy about. Hicks was 0-for-5 with five strikeouts on the day, an accomplishment affectionately known as the platinum sombrero. Hicks is only owned in 2% of leagues, and doesn't provide much in terms of fantasy value, but it's a noteworthy stat line nevertheless.

John Hicks Makes Unwanted History For Tigers

Detroit Tigers catcher John Hicks finished hitless across five at-bats with five strikeouts in Sunday's 6-4 road loss against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon. He is the first Tigers player with a five-strikeout game since Prince Fielder on April 17, 2013, and he is the first player to go 0-for-5 with five strikeouts since Craig Monroe did it on June 14, 2013. Hicks is slashing .188/.235/.375 and he was batting fifth in manager Ron Gardenhire's lineup, which tells you a little bit about how poorly the Detroit offense has been performing this season. Avoid Hicks in all but the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues.

John Hicks Out 3-6 Weeks

Detroit Tigers catcher/first baseman John Hicks (hips) had successful surgery on Thursday on both of his hips. He will be out three to six weeks, ending his 2018 season. Hicks saw an everyday role once Miguel Cabrera was done for the year, but he didn't do much with it, hitting .260 with nine home runs and 32 RBI in 288 at-bats. He can be dropped in all leagues if he wasn't already. Jim Adduci figures to see most of the playing time at first base moving forward, but he's only a candidate to own in AL-only formats.

John Hicks Done For The Season

Detroit Tigers first baseman and catcher John Hicks (groin) will have season-ending surgery, the team announced. Hicks saw a major uptick in playing time after Miguel Cabrera suffered a season-ending injury of his own, essentially becoming the everyday man at first base. He was first placed on the 10-day disabled list on August 8th, but was hopeful to return without needing surgery. That obviously won't be the case now, and he'll finish the year with a .260 average, nine homers, and 32 RBI.

John Hicks To See A Specialist

Detroit Tigers catcher/first baseman John Hicks (groin) will visit with a core muscle specialist, Dr. William Meyers, on Wednesday and undergo another MRI exam. There is no timetable for Hicks' return, so he should be left on the waiver wire in most mixed leagues. He was hitting .260 with nine home runs and 32 RBI before his injury. Jim Adduci and Ronny Rodriguez should split the playing time at first base with Hicks on the disabled list.
