Cubs To Consider Reunion With John Lackey

Chicago Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said that free-agent starting pitcher John Lackey plans to pitch in 2018. Lackey who is 39 would like to continue his career, but one would think hed like to go to a competitive team such as the Cubs. Lackey was one of the Cubs better pitchers in the second half of the season and given his postseason experience he wouldnt be a bad addition at the back end of a pitching staff. Hoyer said they will discuss bringing Lackey back. The Cubs will be looking at every pitching option available through free agency and trades as they look to improve a staff that will likely lose Jake Arrieta and could lose John Lackey.

John Lackey Plans To Pitch In 2018

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Chicago Cubs impending free-agent starting pitcher John Lackey intends to pitch in 2018. Lackey who is 39 pitched the past two years with the Chicago Cubs and won his third World Series ring with the club. The veteran got off to a slow start in 2017 but rebounded nicely in the second half where he was arguably the Cubs best pitcher over that period. He finished last year 12-12 record and 4.59 ERA. He sports a career 3.92 ERA. Lackey has shown a lot of durability over the years and provides playoff experience.

John Lackey Serves Up Walk-Off Home Run In Game 2 Loss

Pitching in relief in Game 2 of the Championship Series against the Dodgers on Sunday, Chicago Cubs pitcher John Lackey came in during the bottom of the ninth with one runner on. He walked Chris Taylor and then served up the game winning home run to Justin Turner. The Cubs bullpen has been the teams kryptonite thus far in the playoffs and must improve if they hope to make it back to the World Series.

John Lackey Likely To Pitch In Bullpen

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher John Lackey is likely to make the team's playoff roster as a reliever. Lackey had a strong second half of the season and has pitched very well of late. He will also add some insurance for Game 4 starter Jake Arrieta (hamstring) should any issues arise. Lackey will likely pitch in a long relief role which could move Mike Montgomery to more of a setup role in the bullpen.

John Lackey Excellent Against Atlanta

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher John Lackey had a great performance on Tuesday against Atlanta. Lackey threw 86 pitches over five innings and gave up just one run on five hits and two walks. Lackey still sits at a 5.04 ERA and isn't much of a fantasy asset, but it seems he will stick as a starting pitcher for now amid rumors of him going to the bullpen.

John Lackey to Start on Tuesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher John Lackey (foot) will come off the disabled list and make the start against Atlanta on Tuesday. Lackey was placed on the DL just before the break and it did not cost him a start. Lackey currently sits at a 5.20 ERA and, should he continue to struggle, is in danger of losing a spot in the rotation. Still, Lackey is a veteran perfectly capable of turning things around - just don't rely on him for your fantasy team.
