Is Jonah Heim a Worthy Power Bat to Target on the Waiver Wire?

Since being acquired from the Atlanta Braves in early May, Athletics catcher Jonah Heim has re-established his MLB career. Across 135 plate appearances with the A's, Heim is hitting .232/.281/.464 with eight home runs, 21 RBI, and 16 runs scored. The presence of star Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers limits Heim's playing time behind the plate. However, Heim has emerged as a regular at first base and designated hitter with A's first baseman Nick Kurtz (thumb) currently on the injured list. Heim's playing time may eventually dissipate once Kurtz returns to the Athletics lineup. Still, Heim has found a rhythm in his new hitter-friendly home park and profiles as a short-term source of power for fantasy managers to target on the waiver wire.

Jonah Heim Drives in Six, Worth a Short-Term Pickup at Catcher?

Athletics catcher Jonah Heim could be playing regularly in the final week before the All-Star break if Shea Langeliers (thumb) lands on the injured list. Serving as the designated hitter in Sunday's series finale against the visiting Miami Marlins, the 31-year-old veteran had a day to remember at the dish, going 2-for-4 with a grand slam, six RBI, and a strikeout in the team's 9-8 loss at Sutter Health Park. The former All-Star is now hitting .241/.300/.490 with a .790 OPS, nine home runs, 29 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 46 total games this year with the A's and Atlanta Braves. Since joining the A's, he's gone 26-for-106 (.245) with eight home runs, 21 RBI, and 16 runs scored in 34 games across 115 plate appearances. Heim's fantasy value in two-catcher leagues has seen a boost with the move to Sacramento, and he'll be worth a look off the waiver wire if Langeliers is forced to miss additional time due to a thumb injury. As an All-Star in 2023 with the Texas Rangers, Heim hit a career-high 18 homers and drove in 95 in 131 regular-season games.

Jonah Heim Signs Minor-League Contract With Braves

Free-agent catcher Jonah Heim has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Atlanta Braves, and he could begin the year as the team's backup behind Drake Baldwin since Sean Murphy (hip) is not expected to be ready for Opening Day. The 30-year-old switch-hitting catcher spent the first six seasons of his MLB career in the AL West, starting with the Athletics in 2020 and spending the last five seasons with the Rangers. He hit a career-high 18 homers in 2023 when he hit .258 with a .324 wOBA. Over the last two years, his numbers have declined, and in 2025, he hit just .213 in 124 games with 11 homers and a .266 wOBA. Heim has good career splits against lefties and could get most of his at-bats on that side of the splits with Baldwin and Murphy both batting from the left side. Since he does bring a little pop from behind the plate and could earn playing time with a strong spring, he's a deep-league option to watch this spring with his new team.

Rangers Looking to Trade Jonah Heim, Adolis Garcia?

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the Texas Rangers "are trying to deal" catcher Jonah Heim and outfielder Adolis Garcia before this Friday's tender deadline. If they can't find any takers, both Heim and Garcia are non-tender candidates. Heim split playing time behind the dish in 2025 with Kyle Higashioka and hit .213/.271/.332 with 11 home runs, 43 RBI, and 38 runs scored in 124 games played. His 11 home runs were his fewest since 2021, when he played in only 82 games. Garcia, meanwhile, is entering the final year of his contract in 2026 and has had trouble staying healthy in recent seasons. The 32-year-old right-handed-hitting Cuban hit a career-best 39 long balls in 2023 but dropped down to 19 homers in 2025 while slashing a pedestrian .227/.271/.394 with a below-average .665 OPS, 75 RBI, 58 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases in 135 games played.

Jonah Heim Not in Lineup Wednesday

The Texas Rangers are giving catcher Jonah Heim the night off Wednesday against Kansas City Royals left-hander Kris Bubic. Kyle Higashioka will start in place of Heim and bat eighth. The switch-hitting Heim, a former All-Star, has struggled offensively for the second straight season. This month has been especially poor for Heim, who has gone 5-for-32 (.156) with one homer, three RBI, and 9:1 K:BB in nine games.

Jonah Heim Sitting Thursday

Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim won't be in the team's lineup on Thursday for their road series finale with the Minnesota Twins. It's just a routine day off for him with a day game coming after a night game. Fellow backstop Kyle Higashioka is behind the plate and batting ninth in his absence. Heim is amid a brutal slump, but picked up multiple hits in an outing for the first time since May 20 in Wednesday's loss. The 29-year-old has taken a slight step back this season regarding his plate discipline -- sporting a near-six-point increase in his strikeout rate (24.2%) and a slight drop in walk percentage (4.9%).

Jonah Heim Resting on Tuesday

Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. This is a routine rest day for Heim who has been in a terrible slump at the plate. Heim is 4-for-40 over his last 13 games, which includes three straight hitless performances. Kyle Higashioka will take over behind the plate and bat ninth against right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson on Tuesday. Heim has decent power potential, but he isn't doing enough with the bat right now to warrant rostering in most fantasy formats.

Jonah Heim Back in Lineup as the Designated Hitter

Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim (hand) is back in the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale in the Bronx against the hosting New York Yankees and left-hander Carlos Rodon, serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth. Heim was pulled early from Wednesday's 4-3 loss at Yankee Stadium with a compressed nerve in his right hand, but he's obviously feeling good enough to hit a day later. Imaging on the 29-year-old backstop's hand came back negative, but he's not ready to play defense quite yet. Heim has actually had reverse splits so far in 2025, batting .316 (12-for-38) with two of his six home runs in 42 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers, although he won't have an easy matchup on Thursday against Rodon. Heim is hitless in just one career at-bat against Rodon.

Jonah Heim Dealing with Compressed Nerve

Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim (hand) left the game with a compressed nerve in his throwing hand after injuring it on a swing in the second inning. Although he initially was set to stay in the game, he left after it was too painful to throw the ball back to the pitcher. There's no word yet on whether this could require a trip to the injured list or if it's more of a day-to-day matter, but expect an update after the game. Heim has been enjoying a solid season up until this point, as he launched his sixth home run of the year last night.

Corey Seager, Jonah Heim Resting On Thursday

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager and catcher Jonah Heim will both retreat to the bench for Thursday's series finale at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. Josh Smith will handle shortstop and hit leadoff, while Tucker Barnhart will do the catching and hit ninth against Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello. Since returning from the injured list on May 3, Seager has gone 5-for-19 with a double, three RBI and four runs scored in four games played. The five-time All-Star and two-time World Series MVP has hit a respectable .281 (27-for-96) this year with four homers and nine RBI. Heim gets a breather after starting in each of the team's last 11 games. He's getting more playing time now with Kyle Higashioka (intercostal) on the IL and has taken advantage of it. Smith, who is hitting over .300 in 99 at-bats, will be a DFS sleeper on Thursday in the leadoff spot against Bello.
