Adolis Garcia to Have Season-Ending Lat Surgery on Wednesday

The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Thursday that outfielder Adolis Garcia (lat) will have season-ending surgery on his right lat on Wednesday, and it will be performed by Dr. Anthony Romero. Garcia's recovery is projected to take six to eight months for a full return to play, and he is expected to be ready for the start of the 2027 season. It's a tough break for the 33-year-old Cuban in his first year in Philly. The veteran outfielder was struggling with the Phillies before his lat injury, though, and he'll finish the year with a disappointing .195/.270/.329 with seven home runs, 21 RBI, 21 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 67 games across 259 plate appearances. The two-time All-Star hit a career-high 39 home runs and drove in 107 runs in 148 games in 2023 on his way to leading the Rangers to their first-ever World Series championship, but he has declined rapidly since then, and injuries certainly haven't helped. Garcia's season-ending injury could help rookie outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. stick around the rest of the year after his recent call-up. He deserves attention for his raw power from the left side of the plate in deeper fantasy leagues.

Adolis Garcia Placed on 60-Day Injured List With Lat Tear

The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Friday that they placed outfielder Adolis Garcia (lat) on the 60-day injured list with a torn right lat, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Garcia tore his lat trying to throw George Springer out at home plate on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays, and now he'll miss extended time. At the very least, Garcia will be out for two months while on the 60-day IL, and if he undergoes surgery, it wouldn't be surprising if we don't see him again in 2026. Gabriel Rincones and the newly acquired Derek Hill will report to Philly's big-league roster with Garcia injured. In addition to his injury, the 33-year-old Garcia has been a major disappointment in 2026 in his first year with the Phillies, hitting just .195 (45-for-231) with seven home runs, 21 RBI, 21 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 67 games across 259 plate appearances. In most single-year leagues, the two-time All-Star can be dropped to the waiver wire.

Adolis Garcia Pulled Early on Wednesday With Shoulder Injury

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Adolis Garcia (shoulder) was removed from Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays early after pulling a muscle in his right shoulder area, according to Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Garcia is being evaluated further. The 33-year-old Cuban was holding his right arm after making a throw to home plate while trying to throw out George Springer in the seventh inning of the Phillies' eventual 7-4 win at the Rogers Centre. Garcia was replaced in right field by Steward Berroa after he went 0-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a strikeout. Until we know more about the severity of Garcia's shoulder injury, we'll consider him day-to-day. If the injury isn't serious, Garcia could be back on the field for the Phillies as soon as Friday's series opener in Milwaukee against the Brewers after a scheduled day off on Thursday. The two-time All-Star has continued to trend downward in 2026 in his first year in Philly, as he's currently hitting under the Mendoza Line with seven homers, 21 RBI, 21 runs, and three steals across his 67 games played.

Adolis Garcia to Hit Cleanup for Phillies?

The Philadelphia Phillies were seeking lineup protection for first baseman Bryce Harper and more right-handed pop this offseason, which is why they brought in outfielder Adolis Garcia in free agency on a one-year deal. NBC Sports' Cole Weintraub writes that the Phillies are hoping Garcia can return to his 2022-23 form in Texas and slide into the team's cleanup spot. However, a cold spring from Garcia could push designated hitter Kyle Schwarber to the four-hole after he had a .955 OPS in 2025. The 32-year-old Garcia will start in right field in his first year in Philly, but he's a gamble in fantasy baseball drafts after posting a sub-.700 OPS in back-to-back seasons. His .675 OPS last year ranked 117th out of 123 qualified hitters, and he also hit fewer than 20 homers for the first time in his career. Still, there are worse players to take a chance on in a favorable hitting environment with plenty of RBI opportunities. Remember, Garcia hit 39 homers and drove in 107 runs just two seasons ago.

Adolis Garcia, Phillies Finalizing One-Year Deal on Monday

Cuban outfielder Adolis Garcia and the Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing a one-year, $10 million deal, pending a physical, on Monday, sources told Francys Romero. Garcia will head to the National League East and look to help a contending team as he tries to get back to his 2023 form, when he was named MVP of the American League Championship Series. The 32-year-old veteran will essentially be replacing Nick Castellanos, who is expected to be traded or released this offseason. The landing spot is an ideal one for Garcia in a hitter-friendly ballpark in a stacked lineup in Philly. Garcia had a second straight season with an OPS under .700 in 2025, and he also hit fewer than 20 home runs for the first time since becoming an everyday player. Injuries are a concern and could have contributed to a drop in his batted-ball metrics and bat speed in 2025. At a slightly discounted price in fantasy drafts next spring, though, Garcia will be an attractive bounce-back candidate in his new digs.

Rangers Non-Tender Adolis Garcia on Friday

Outfielder Adolis Garcia is being non-tendered by the Texas Rangers on Friday, sources told Jesse Rogers of ESPN. Garcia will now become a free agent this offseason after hitting .227 with 19 home runs and a .665 OPS for the Rangers in 2025. The 32-year-old has battled through injuries in recent seasons, but plenty of teams should be interested after he had a ridiculous 1.108 OPS in the 2023 postseason on his way to helping Texas win its first World Series championship that year. The Rangers didn't want to have to pay the right-handed slugger around $12 million in salary arbitration for next season. In addition to Garcia, the Rangers also non-tendered catcher Jonah Heim. In the last two years, Garcia's .675 OPS ranks 117th among 123 qualified hitters. In the 2023 postseason, he hit .323/.382/.726 in 15 games, including a walk-off homer in Game 1 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Rangers Looking to Trade Jonah Heim, Adolis Garcia?

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the Texas Rangers "are trying to deal" catcher Jonah Heim and outfielder Adolis Garcia before this Friday's tender deadline. If they can't find any takers, both Heim and Garcia are non-tender candidates. Heim split playing time behind the dish in 2025 with Kyle Higashioka and hit .213/.271/.332 with 11 home runs, 43 RBI, and 38 runs scored in 124 games played. His 11 home runs were his fewest since 2021, when he played in only 82 games. Garcia, meanwhile, is entering the final year of his contract in 2026 and has had trouble staying healthy in recent seasons. The 32-year-old right-handed-hitting Cuban hit a career-best 39 long balls in 2023 but dropped down to 19 homers in 2025 while slashing a pedestrian .227/.271/.394 with a below-average .665 OPS, 75 RBI, 58 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases in 135 games played.

Adolis Garcia Activated, Starting on Sunday

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (quadriceps) was activated from the 10-day injured list and is in the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Mets. Garcia is in right field and batting cleanup after missing nearly two weeks of action due to a quad injury. It has been a down year for Garcia, but he remains a threat to go deep at any time. He has 18 home runs, 73 RBI, and 13 steals across 125 games this season. Fantasy managers who have Garcia rostered should get him activated on Sunday.

Adolis Garcia Scheduled to Face Live Pitching This Weekend

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (quad) is set to face live pitching this weekend. If he can complete both sessions without a setback, then he will be a candidate to return to the Rangers' outfield on Monday, September 15, when Texas begins a series in Houston against the Astros. It's worth noting that this potential return date is positioned to be later than a previous report, which suggested that the 32-year-old could be activated over the weekend. While a return early next week isn't a major delay, it is later than the previous timeline. When he does return, he will look to finish the season off on a positive note, as he has struggled to find much consistency at the plate this year. In 2025 so far, he has a .235/.277/.408 slash line with 18 home runs and 13 steals.

Adolis Garcia Could Be Activated This Weekend

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (quad) is making significant progress and was able to take batting practice on the field on Tuesday. He landed on the injured list with a strained quad that has kept him out since September 1, but he may not need much more than the minimum time on the injured list. The Rangers are just 1.5 games behind the Mariners for the third AL Wild Card spot and just 2.5 games behind the Astros for the division lead. Getting Garcia back sooner than expected would be a huge boost for the Rangers' lineup, which is already seriously injury-depleted. Garcia was heating up, going 14-for-38 (.368) with two homers and three stolen bases in his nine games before landing on the injured list. He'll look to pick up where he left off, potentially against the Mets this weekend.
