Jose Cisnero Progressing In Throwing Program

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Cisnero (shoulder) started his throwing progression and played catch last Thursday before progressing to throwing from 60 feet on Monday. Cisnero struggled in his last outing on April 27 against the Minnesota Twins and then complained of shoulder discomfort before being put on the 15-day injured list on April 28. At the time, manager Ron Washington said the injury wasn't considered serious, so the reliever could be back in the Angels' bullpen sooner than later. The 35-year-old Dominican hurler is in his first year with the Halos and had a bloated 7.07 ERA (6.28 FIP) and 1.71 WHIP with seven walks and 16 strikeouts in 14 relief innings at the time of his shoulder injury. Cisnero won't have any real fantasy appeal when he's back.

Jose Suarez, Jose Cisnero Delayed At Spring Training

Los Angeles Angels pitchers Jose Suarez and Jose Cisnero are both being delayed to spring training, Suarez due to a family matter and Cisnero due to a visa issue. Suarez, a 26-year-old left-hander, had a disastrous year in 2023 in his fifth year in Anaheim, posting an 8.29 ERA and 1.96 WHIP with 20 walks and 28 strikeouts in just 33 2/3 innings over 11 appearances over seven starts. Cisnero, a 34-year-old right-hander, had a 5.31 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with two saves, 25 walks and a career-high 70 strikeouts in 59 1/3 relief innings in his fifth year with the Detroit Tigers last year. The Angels signed the Dominican reliever to a one-year, $1.75 million contract this month to give them more bullpen depth in 2024.

Jose Cisnero Signs One-Year Deal With The Angels

Free-agent relief pitcher Jose Cisnero signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels. The veteran reliever put up a poor 5.31 ERA, 1.483 WHIP, and 70:25 K/BB over 59 1/3 innings last season as a member of the Detroit Tigers. While the ERA and WHIP leave a lot to be desired, he still put up solid strikeout numbers. He should work in middle relief for the Angels this season and could have some deep fantasy value in leagues that count holds.

Jose Cisnero Day-To-Day With Illness

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero (illness) is being listed as day-to-day in camp with a non-COVID illness. Cisnero also dealt with a neck injury earlier in spring training, so he's only made one Grapefruit League appearance to this point. The 33-year-old should be ready to go again in a day or two. He put up a career-best 1.08 ERA (3.67 FIP), 1.36 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 25 relief innings over 28 appearances out of the bullpen for the Tigers in 2022 in his fourth year with the team. Cisnero only really has fantasy appeal in deep holds leagues in a setup role for the Tigers alongside Jason Foley in front of expected closer Alex Lange.

Jose Cisnero Gets $2.287 Million From Tigers

The Detroit Tigers and relief pitcher Jose Cisnero agreed to a one-year, $2.287 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration. Cisnero had an excellent 1.08 ERA (3.67 FIP), 1.36 WHIP, 19 walks and 23 strikeouts for the Tigers in 2022, but he only threw 25 relief innings due to an injury and personal issues. The 33-year-old right-hander will not be so fortunate next year if he is unable to limit his number of walks. Cisnero will only be attractive in 2023 deep holds leagues as a setup man in front of expected closer Alex Lange.

Jose Cisnero Goes On 60-Day Injured List

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero(shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list on Wednesday due to a right shoulder sprain. Pitchers Will Vest, Drew Hutchison, Jacob Barnes and Elvin Rodriguez have all made the Opening Day bullpen. Infielder Willi Castro will start the year at Triple-A. The injury troubles continue for Cisnero, whose 2021 season ended early when he injured his elbow falling down the stairs. The 32-year-old will miss the first couple of months this year. The Tigers will also be missing veteran Andrew Chafin to open the season, so the Tigers will have to step up in the late innings in order to get the ball to closer Gregory Soto. Cisnero had a 3.65 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, four saves and 62 K's in 61 2/3 relief outings in 2021.

Jose Cisnero Shut Down For The Rest Of The Year

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero (elbow) will not pitch again in 2021, according to Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. Cisnero landed on the injured list on September 14 after suffering a right elbow laceration. The injury occurred after he slipped on the stairs at his house. He has been with the Tigers lately and has been playing catch on the side, but the team didn't think there was a reason to bring him back for a final bullpen stint or two. The 32-year-old right-hander had a decent year out of the pen. Over 67 games, he posted a 3.65 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. He tallied 18 holds and four saves, but he also blew five save opportunities.

Jose Cisnero Records One-Pitch Save On Sunday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero recorded his fourth save of the year in Sunday's win over the Chicago White Sox. Gregory Soto entered the ninth inning of the game while the Tigers were up 6-2, but he went on to give up three earned runs over 2/3 of an inning before he was pulled. Cisnero came on after the team's lead was reduced to one run and managed to get Andrew Vaughn to line out on just one pitch to end the game. With Michael Fulmer (neck) sidelined, it looks to be relatively clear that Cisnero is the primary closer for the team. Soto is the next man up behind him and his struggles on Sunday should widen the gap between the two relievers even more.

Jose Cisnero Earns His Third Save On Saturday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero closed out Game 1 of the team's doubleheader against the Houston Astros on Saturday. He pitched a clean seventh inning, allowing no hits or walks while striking out two and preserving a 3-1 lead. Cisnero now has three saves on the year to go along with a 3.00 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. It was a bit surprising to see the team go with Cisnero over Michael Fulmer to close out the game. Fulmer had closed out each of the team's previous three close wins before this one, earning two saves in the process. Fulmer went on to receive a save opportunity in Game 2 of the doubleheader, but couldn't convert it, blowing his second save of the year in the outing. Cisnero is the clear next man up for saves in Detroit, but Fulmer should still be considered the primary closer for now.

Jose Cisnero Earns Another Save On Tuesday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero was called upon in the ninth inning of Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners and went on to earn his second save of the year. He entered the game while the Tigers were up 5-3 and he allowed one hit, no walks and no runs while striking out two. Cisnero has now converted the team's last two saves and looks to be the clear frontrunner for saves while Michael Fulmer (shoulder) is sidelined. The team recently received positive news on Fulmer and he could be back in a week or so, but Cisnero is still worth adding in all leagues. It's certainly no guarantee he cedes the closing role to Fulmer upon Fulmer's return.
