Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jose Fernandez is not in Wednesday's lineup against Yohander Mendez and the Texas Rangers. Fernandez has been LA's primary first baseman over the last month, but will give way to the right-handed hitting Jefry Marte, who is batting sixth. Fernandez is slashing .261/.293/.378 with two home runs and one steal on the year, and is not worth owning in most fantasy formats. Marte would be a nice, cheap 1B option in DFS formats today against a subpar left-hander.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jose Fernandez (hand) was diagnosed with a right hand contusion on Saturday after X-rays showed no fracture. Fernandez left the game early on Saturday after getting hit by a pitch. Consider him day-to-day for now. With the Angels playing out the string, Fernandez is getting a lot of playing time. He is 28-for-104 (.269) with two homers and 10 RBI through 32 games with the Halos.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jose Fernandez is not in Wednesday's lineup. Jefry Marte is starting in his place, batting fifth. The left-handed hitting Fernandez is likely getting a day off against the left-handed Brett Anderson. Marte is a decent DFS play this evening, hitting behind Mike Trout, Justin Upton and Shohei Ohtani.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jose Fernandez has been bumped to second in the order on Tuesday. Fernandez has been hitting seventh, but David Fletcher's hamstring injury may keep him out for the rest of the season. That allows Fernandez to hit after Kole Calhoun and ahead of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, a considerably more attractive spot in the order. Fernandez will be a nice DFS play for owners looking for a cheap 1B option.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jose Fernandez is in the lineup on Friday, batting seventh and playing first base. Fernandez has now started six games in a row, and has cemented himself as LA's primary option at first base. He is slashing .275/.310/.450 with two home runs and a stolen base in September, and is not a bad option for those in very deep leagues who still need counting stats this season.
Jose Miguel Fernandez Recalled, Starts at First Base
The Los Angeles Angels have recalled infielder Jose Miguel Fernandez from Triple-A Salt Lake. Fernandez is in the lineup on Saturday, playing first and batting sixth. Fernandez had a run with the Halos earlier in the season, hitting .279 with a run and four RBI. Fernandez hit .333 with 17 home runs and an incredible 8.6% strikeout rate at Triple-A, so there's a chance he will have some fantasy value in deeper leagues down the stretch if he takes over as the everyday first baseman, following Albert Pujols' season-ending knee injury.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Jose Fernandez is starting at first base on Friday, batting sixth. With Jefry Marte, Zack Cozart and Shohei Ohtani all on the DL, a regular spot at first base has opened up. Luis Valbuena is the regular third baseman, with Albert Pujols taking regular DH duties. Fernandez was tearing it up in Triple-A, and is 2-for-6 so far in the big leagues. He isn't worth a look except in very deep leagues.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jose Fernandez is in the lineup on Tuesday, batting seventh and playing first base. With Zack Cozart taking over shortstop duties in place of Andrelton Simmons, Luis Valbuena has slid over to everyday duty at third base. And with Shohei Ohtani out indefinitely, Albert Pujols has become a full-time designated hitter. That has allowed Fernandez to split time at first base with Jefry Marte, who left Monday's game with a left wrist contusion. If Marte is out for an extended period of time, Fernandez could be the everyday first baseman in LA. Fernandez was hitting .345 with 10 home runs in Triple-A and could be a nice add in deeper leagues going forward.
