The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed catcher Jose Godoy off of waivers on Friday. The Minnesota Twins designated Godoy for assignment earlier in the week after the 27-year-old backstop logged just three at-bats in the big leagues in 2022. To make room for Godoy on the roster, Pittsburgh designated veteran catcher Taylor Davis for assignment. Look for Godoy to help fill in behind the plate while starter Tyler Heineman (groin) is on the injured list.
Seattle Mariners catcher Jose Godoy drove in a run and scored another Sunday, going 1-for-3 with a walk in a victory against Cleveland. He struck out in his other two at-bats. Godoy is clearly the backup behind Tom Murphy for the moment, limiting his fantasy value severely, and Godoy hasn't made much of a case for himself with a .437 OPS in 3 plate appearances. Catcher Cal Raleigh could arrive in the majors at any point, which might mean Godoy loses his roster spot. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere at the catcher position.

Godoy can be expected to take over back-up duties behind starting catcher Tom Murphy. Godoy has produced well at Triple-A Tacoma through 32 plate appearances with a .310/.375/.517 slash line, but he can be ignored by fantasy managers in all formats for now.
