Juan Lagares Posting .633 OPS

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Juan Lagares will continue to see consistent playing time with star teammate Mike Trout on the shelf with a strained calf. Lagares stepped in to play 22 games in the month of May, slashing a respectable .276/.311/.397 through 58 at-bats. Lagares has thrived playing at Angel Stadium, posting a .832 OPS with six extra-base hits, seven runs batted in and 11 runs scored through 16 games. Lagares will continue to see plate appearances but his floor is too low to expect much from him in fantasy.

Juan Lagares Heading To The Bench On Monday

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Juan Lagares is sitting out on Monday as the team takes on Johnny Cueto and the San Francisco Giants. Taylor Ward is getting the start in center field and batting fifth in the game. Lagares has been a mainstay in the lineup for most of the past month. He started the team's previous 11 games and went 11-for-38 with seven runs and four RBI over that stretch. Expect to see him back in the lineup for the second and final game of the team's two-game series against the Giants on Tuesday.

Juan Lagares Available Off The Bench On Tuesday

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Juan Lagares (toe) is available off the bench for Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Indians. He exited early during Monday's contest due to a minor toe issue. The Angels also lost Mike Trout (toe) on Monday and he's expected to miss roughly six weeks of action. Justin Upton could be asked to play quite a lot with the Angels quickly running out of outfielders. Upton's fantasy value should see a significant boost due to the loss of Trout. Lagares should be back in the lineup in the next day or two.

Juan Lagares Suffers Toe Injury On Monday

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Juan Lagares (toe) was forced to leave Monday's game against the Cleveland Indians after suffering a toe injury. He hit his toe against the outfield wall while attempting to track a home run off the bat of Harold Ramirez in the eighth inning of the game. He was replaced by Justin Upton. Lagares is set to undergo further evaluations on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury. Lagares has only appeared in 10 games so far this year and is slashing .208/.269/.333.

Juan Lagares Placed On The Injured List

The Los Angeles Angels placed outfielder Juan Lagares (calf) on the injured list on Tuesday. Lagares is dealing with a calf injury that caused him to be scratched from Monday's lineup. The injuries are sure piling up for the Angels, who lost fellow outfielder Dexter Fowler (knee) to a torn ACL. The team also placed Anthony Rendon (groin) on the injured list with a groin injury just a few days ago. Jared Walsh is shifting to right field for Tuesday's game and he could start seeing regular playing time at that position due to the team's injury situation.

Mets Sign Juan Lagares To Minor League Deal

The New York Mets signed outfielder Juan Lagares to a minor league deal on Wednesday. A fan favorite in New York, Lagares had previously signed a minor league deal with the Padres back in February. After he was not added to the Padres' 60-man player pool in early July, Lagares elected free agency. Lagares will strictly serve as outfield replacement depth for the Mets in the shortened 2020 season. A defensive specialist with a career 82 wRC+, Lagares will not be in fantasy consideration even if his minor league contract is eventually purchased by the Mets and he makes the 30-man roster.

Brian Dozier And Juan Lagares Left Off Padres Player Pool

The San Diego Padres 2020 player pool unveiled Sunday omitted second baseman Brian Dozier and outfielder Juan Lagares. The two veterans are still under contract so its possible they rejoin the Friars later in summer camp. Doziers absence is a boost to projected starter Jurickson Profar, who will now have less competition for at-bats. Young infielders Ty France and Jake Cronenworth will team with Greg Garcia for backup duties at the Padres weakest position. Lagares was likely expendable as his defensive replacement role became diminished with a shortened season on the horizon. Outfielders Franchy Cordero and Josh Naylor can breathe sighs of relief with their roster spots now probably safe.

Juan Lagares Joins Padres On Minor League Deal

The San Diego Padres signed outfielder Juan Lagares to a minor league deal on Feb. 10. According to sources, Lagares will be invited to big league camp and is likely a depth option for the Padres after outfielder Manuel Margot was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend. The light-hitting Lagares enjoyed his best offensive season in 2014, registering a .281 average, 13 steals and 93 runs-plus-RBI across 452 plate appearances. A defensive specialist with a career 82 wRC+, the 30-year-old won't be in fantasy consideration in mixed leagues if he makes the team.

Mets Decline Juan Lagares' Option

The New York Mets declined the option for outfielder Juan Lagares, ending his 13-year run with the team and making him a free agent. Lagares' option was worth $9.5 million, but they'll instead pay him a $500,000 buyout. The 30-year-old has become a glove-first player in the big leagues, but he's become injury-prone and averaged just 68 games a season from 2016-18. Lagares was a disappointment with the bat in 2019, hitting .213 with a .605 OPS in 133 games. He's unlikely to return to the team on a major league deal and won't even be attractive in single-universe leagues if he resurfaces elsewhere in 2020.

Juan Lagares Sits Out on Tuesday

New York Mets outfielder Juan Lagares (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs. This appears to be a routine day off or a matchup move, so Lagares won't start in this one. Michael Conforto will draw the start in center field and bat cleanup versus righty Yu Darvish. Conforto has been average with the bat lately, while Darvish has been elite. This isn't a great fantasy spot for Conforto on Tuesday.
