The Boston Red Sox placed right-hander John Schreiber (lat) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and also optioned pitcher Brennan Bernardino to Triple-A Worcester. In other moves, the Red Sox recalled right-hander Justin Garza and selected left-hander Ryan Sherriff's contract from Worcester. Schreiber, who has been great in relief for the team this year, goes on the shelf after suffering a right-lat strain on Monday against the Seattle Mariners. The 29-year-old has posted a 2.12 ERA (3.19 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, eight walks and 21 K's in 17 relief innings. Garza hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2021 and had a 3.95 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, two saves and 13 strikeouts in 13 2/3 relief innings for two minor-league teams. He was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels last month.
