Leury Garcia Joins Braves On Minor-League Deal

The Atlanta Braves signed free-agent infielder Leury Garcia to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. Garcia joins the Braves after getting their attention with a strong showing in the Dominican Winter League. The 32-year-old switch-hitter was cut by the Chicago White Sox last spring and didn't play at all the rest of the season. In 2022, he hit .210/.233/.267 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 97 games played for the White Sox. Garcia has served as a super-utility man in his 10-year big-league career in which he's hit a combined .253 with only 34 home runs, 201 RBI, 64 stolen bases and 290 runs scored in 701 total games for the White Sox and Texas Rangers. He will give Atlanta depth all over the diamond heading into the 2024 campaign.

Leury Garcia Unlikely To Make Opening Day Roster

Chicago White Sox infielder Leury Garcia is not expected to make the Opening Day roster. The 31-year-old has struggled, hitting .222 with a homer, two RBI, and two stolen bases this spring. It sounds like Hanser Alberto has beaten out Garcia for a reserve infielder spot on the roster. It's uncertain what is going to happen to Garcia considering he has two years and $11 million remaining on his contract. Possibly, Garcia is traded or sent to the minors until he's needed on the big league roster. That being said, it's hard to imagine Garcia having fantasy value to begin the season.

Leury Garcia Being Viewed As Backup

Chicago White Sox infielder Leury Garcia is being viewed as a backup heading into spring training this year. The White Sox and new manager Pedro Grifol are expected to use more of Romy Gonzalez and Lenyn Sosa at the keystone in 2023. The good news for Garcia is that he can also play some corner outfield, although playing time could be an issue there as well with Andrew Benintendi now on the team. The 31-year-old Dominican hit a disappointing .210/.233/.267 with a .500 OPS, three home runs, 20 RBI and 38 runs scored in 315 plate appearances and 97 games in his 10th year with the club. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues can probably avoid him unless an injury to another player opens up regular playing time for Garcia.

Leury Garcia Back In Action Thursday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Leury Garcia (ankle) is back in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Luis Gil and the New York Yankees. He'll be batting ninth and covering the keystone in the game. Garcia was a late scratch from the lineup on Wednesday as he was dealing with ankle soreness. Josh Harrison covered second base for Wednesday's game and he is out of the lineup on Thursday. Garcia hasn't provided much offensive support for the White Sox this year. Over 22 games, he's slashing .186/.205/.314 with two home runs, six RBI and seven runs.

White Sox Reportedly Re-Sign Leury Garcia

The Chicago White Sox are reportedly re-signing Leury Garcia, according to a tweet from MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Per Heyman's tweet, it's a three-year deal for the 30-year-old. In 474 plate appearances last season, Garcia hit .267 with a .335 on-base percentage, five home runs, and six stolen bases. He played all over the field for Tony La Russa's club, starting games at every position besides pitcher, catcher, and first base. He'll likely be a utility option again next season, though speculatively speaking, he could see extended time at second base if the White Sox don't make any additions at the position.

Leury Garcia Comes Up Big In Victory

Chicago White Sox infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia put together a big performance in Wednesday's win versus the Minnesota Twins. Garcia went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, a triple and two-run home run. Garcia has been playing all over the diamond for the White Sox and he has become a staple in the lineup. Garcia offers plenty of positional flexibility for managers and is now hitting .257 with three home runs and 37 RBI. The veteran is worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues.

Leury Garcia Goes Yard In Loss

Chicago White Sox infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia went 2-for-3 with a walk, two-run home run and three RBI. The home run would be his second of the season and he is now hitting .252 with 31 RBI. Garcia has been playing all over the diamond for the White Sox and has carved out a nice role in their lineup. Despite getting steady playing time, Garcia doesn't offer much value to managers and can be avoided in most formats.

Leury Garcia Returns Saturday, Yoan Moncada Remains Out

Chicago White Sox outfielder Leury Garcia (knee) is back in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers, but third baseman Yoan Moncada (hand) remains out. Garcia was scratched on Thursday with knee pain and also sat out on Friday. Moncada suffered a bruised right hand on a slide this week and is not expected to play at all this holiday weekend. Garcia is in right field and is hitting fifth, while rookie Jake Burger gets the nod at third base and is batting sixth against Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal. The switch-hitting Garcia provides very little DFS upside with just a homer, 28 RBI and two steals on the season. Burger went 2-for-4 with a double in his major league debut on Friday and is worth a flier in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, especially if Moncada winds up on the injured list.

Leury Garcia Scratched From Lineup Thursday

Chicago White Sox outfielder Leury Garcia (knee) has been scratched from the starting lineup on Thursday, but manager Tony La Russa said that Garcia should be able to play on Friday. The White Sox don't want to push him after a night game after Garcia dealt with some knee pain recently. The 30-year-old switch-hitter managed a .274/.343/.387 slash line with a homer, 10 runs scored and 11 RBI in 19 games in the month of June, so it seems his knee issue hasn't really affected him much. Infielder Danny Mendick will take over at the keystone on Wednesday and hit eighth against Minnesota Twins right-hander Jose Berrios. Mendick has a hit in each of his last two appearances, but he's a low-upside DFS play with a .212/.316/.303 slash line and just two home runs in 115 plate appearances on the season.

Leury Garcia Hits First Home Run

Chicago White Sox infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's victory versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Garcia got the White Sox on the board with his solo home run in the top of the second inning. Garcia has been playing all over the diamond for the Pale Hose and has also been starting regularly. Garcia offers managers plenty of versatility and is now hitting .249 with one home run, 25 RBI and two stolen bases. Garcia offers his most value in deeper AL-only leagues with his limited power upside.
