Luis Gonzalez Placed On Injured List

The San Francisco Giants placed outfielder Luis Gonzalez (back) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a lower-back strain and recalled infielder Donovan Walton from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Gonzalez has missed the team's last two games, and he was put on the IL on Thursday after an MRI exam showed a back strain. The 26-year-old might not be back with the Giants until the start of the second half of the season. In his first year in San Francisco, he has swung the bat well, slashing .302/.361/.447 with an .808 OPS, three home runs, 24 RBI, 20 runs scored and seven RBI in 180 plate appearances over 49 games. Austin Slater, who is starting in center field on Thursday, should see more playing time in the near future with Gonzalez on the shelf.

Brandon Crawford, Luis Gonzalez Sitting Thursday

San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford (knee) and outfielder Luis Gonzalez (back) both remain out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the Atlanta Braves. Crawford hasn't played since leaving Tuesday's game early with a bruised left knee, but an MRI exam showed that he doesn't have any structural damage, so he should be regarded as day-to-day. Gonzalez will also miss his second straight game due to lower-back tightness. Thairo Estrada is playing shortstop and is batting sixth on Thursday, while Austin Slater will get the start in center field and hit eighth against Braves right-hander Kyle Wright.

Luis Gonzalez Scratched On Wednesday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Gonzalez (back) has been scratched from the starting lineup on Wednesday. He is dealing with lower back tightness, so he'll sit this game out against the Atlanta Braves. This issue is believed to be minor, so Gonzalez isn't expected to need a trip to the injured list. Evan Longoria will take his spot in the lineup for Wednesday's outing against right-hander Charlie Morton. Fantasy managers should check back on Thursday for another update on Gonzalez.

Luis Gonzalez Swipes Two Bags On Saturday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases in a 7-5 win over the Pirates on Saturday. He has been locked in the plate recently and is on a five-game hitting streak. The 26-year-old is slashing .300/.364/.650 with a homer, two RBI, five runs, and two stolen bases over 22 plate appearances during the streak. He continues to see everyday at-bats and should be added in all league formats while the former third-round selection wields a hot bat. Gonzalez is slashing .306/.367/.449 with three home runs, 23 RBI, 18 runs, and seven stolen bases over 46 games in 2022.

LaMonte Wade Jr. To Injured List, Luis Gonzalez Recalled

The San Francisco Giants placed outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. (knee) on the 10-day injured list on Friday. Fellow outfielder Luis Gonzalez was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Wade had missed each of the team's last two games due to left knee inflammation. Tommy La Stella and Austin Slater have shared leadoff duties since Wade has been out. Gonzalez, meanwhile, only wound up playing one game at Triple-A before being recalled. He homered in that one game, perhaps in defiance to his being sent down this past week despite his .889 OPS with the Giants this year.

Luis Gonzalez Headed Back To The Majors?

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Gonzalez was a late scratch from Triple-A Sacramento's lineup and was seen clearing out his locker on Thursday night, a strong indication that he's being promoted back to the majors, according to sources familiar with the situation. The 26-year-old was surprisingly optioned earlier this week after hitting .349/.397/.492 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 21 games. Gonzalez has only played in 30 big-league games, but he's slashed .333/.407/.486 with three stolen bases in 86 plate appearances. It remains to be seen if Gonzalez will play regularly if he returns to the major league roster, but fantasy managers in deeper leagues should probably add him regardless if he's available on the waiver wire.

Luis Gonzalez Headed To Triple-A

The San Francisco Giants will be optioning outfielder Luis Gonzalez to Triple-A Sacramento, according to Robert Murray of MLB Insider. The news is a bit surprising as the 26-year-old has been one of the team's best offensive producers in recent weeks. Over 21 games with the Giants, he's slashed .349/.397/.492 with two home runs, three stolen bases, 15 RBI and 11 runs. The Giants have welcomed a number of their veteran hitters back from injuries lately and Gonzalez's demotion is likely a result of that. Assuming Gonzalez can stay productive at Triple-A, we're likely to see him back in the majors at some point relatively soon.
