Luis Matos Back in Action on Sunday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos (shoulder) is back in action on Sunday when the Giants face the Athletics. Matos was initially scratched from Friday's lineup due to shoulder discomfort. Matos was also held out of action on Saturday. However, the 23-year-old was able to appear in the final game of their series against the Athletics. This afternoon, the young outfielder is slated to cover right field and bat in the six-hole. Through his first 20 games of the campaign, Matos has gotten off to a slow start, holding a .167/.219/.350 line. He has gone deep three times and swiped one bag. Under the hood, he has generated a low .289 xwOBA. This afternoon, Matos is worth considering in DFS as a value play facing Athletics southpaw Jeffrey Springs, who has posted a modest 4.27 ERA this season.

Luis Matos Scratched With Shoulder Discomfort

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos (shoulder) was scratched from the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Athletics due to right-shoulder discomfort, according to MLB.com's Justice delos Santos. With Matos out in the series opener, David Villar is serving as the designated hitter and will bat seventh against A's left-hander JP Sears. The Giants will likely put Matos through some tests, but for now we'll consider him day-to-day and check back on Saturday to see if he's available to return to the lineup. The 23-year-old Venezuelan outfielder has been a non-factor for fantasy managers so far in 2025, slashing a weak .167/.219/.350 with three home runs, four RBI, eight runs scored and a stolen base in just 60 at-bats. The 28-year-old Villar won't be much of a DFS play for the Gigantes near the bottom of the lineup. He's gone 4-for-16 with an RBI and a run scored.

Luis Matos Goes Yard In Giants Victory

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos was a key contributor to the team's 6-3 win on Wednesday in Houston. He went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and a strikeout. His homer was a solo shot to lead off the second inning against Framber Valdez, who struggled in his second start of the season and gave up five runs in five innings. Matos's big day improved his numbers on the season to 4-for-10 (.400) with a .528 wOBA in just three games. The 23-year-old is in the mix for playing time in the Giants' outfield but not currently locked in to an everyday role. More performances like this could earn him playing time, though, and he showed some power potential last season with 14 homers and a .340 wOBA in Triple-A.

Luis Matos A Favorite To Platoon In Right Field

MLB.com's Maria Guardado writes that San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos' impressive stint in winter ball should make him the favorite to serve as Mike Yastrzemski's platoon partner in right field to open the 2025 season. However, the Giants could also take a long look at former infield prospect Marco Luciano, who is expected to make the transition from the infield to outfield this year. Matos, 23, went back and forth between the big-league club and Triple-A Sacramento six times in 2024 and ended up hitting just .213/.237/.347 with five home runs and 25 RBI in 45 games for the Gigantes in his second year in the big leagues. He made plenty of contact and limited his strikeouts, but the quality of his contact was weak. Unless Matos develops more power and starts hitting the ball harder, he'll remain a fourth outfield type for San Fran.

Luis Matos Recalled, Mark Canha Hits Injured List

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento for the final game of the regular season as outfielder Mark Canha (finger) was placed on the injured list with a right thumb sprain. Matos is not penciled into the starting nine and will be available off the bench as the Giants face the St. Louis Cardinals in their season finale. Matos has posted a .216/.240/.351 line across 44 games at the major league level this summer. The Giant offense is best to fade in DFS this afternoon as they will face Cardinal prospect Michael McGreevy who enters Sunday with a strong 2.40 ERA.

Luis Matos Demoted To Double-A

The San Francisco Giants have demoted outfielder Luis Matos from Triple-A Sacramento to Double-A Richmond. It is a curious move as Matos, 22, was once one of the teams' top prospects and has spent time in the big leagues the last two seasons. Although he struggled with the Giants this season in 40 games, he was hitting well for Sacramento. With Sacramento, Matos has hit .242 with eight homers, 37 RBI and six stolen bases in 227 at-bats. Despite his demotion, Matos is still very young and has the ability to reach his potential with some more seasoning on the farm. As a member of the 40-man roster, it would not be a surprise to see Matos get another opportunity with the big-league club this summer. As it stands, he can remain on the waiver wire.

Luis Matos Homers In Win Wednesday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos turned in a solid game in his team's 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. Matos went 2-for-3 with a solo homer to help propel his team to victory. The 22-year-old's homer in the fifth inning broke a 3-3 tie and wound up being the difference in the ballgame for the Giants. Matos is hitting .253 with three homers, 10 runs, and 21 RBI across 99 at-bats in 2024. He has been swinging a hot bat of late, hitting .381 over his past seven contests. Matos is worth a look in NL-only formats while he's hot at the plate.

Luis Matos Returns To The Major Leagues

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos is being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move that put outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (oblique) on the injured list. Matos had a brief stint in the majors early this season and held a .224/.247/.329 slash line with two home runs, 20 RBI, and a 3:10 BB:K ratio in 21 games. In 44 games at Triple-A this season, Matos posted a solid .250/.324/.467 line with 15 doubles, eight long balls, 31 RBI, and five swiped bags. Since June 11, in the minors, Matos has been riding a stellar .375/.419/.925 line with five home runs, which resulted in his promotion. The 22-year-old outfielder is worth a look in deeper leagues as he should receive plenty of opportunities as Yastrzemski remains sidelined.

Luis Matos Hitting Third Against Pirates

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos is starting in center field and batting third on Tuesday in Pittsburgh against the Pirates and veteran left-hander Martin Perez. It's the first time this year that Matos has hit up near the top of the batting order, but he's deserved the move. The 22-year-old Venezuelan outfielder has hit .333 (10-for-30) with two home runs and 17 RBI in just eight games in his second year in the big leagues. Matos is unlikely to keep that high of a batting average through the rest of the season, but he's worth a pickup in fantasy leagues for outfield depth now that rookie Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) is out for the rest of the year. Matos made his big-league debut in 2023 and hit .250/.319/.342 with two homers, 14 RBI, three steals and 24 runs scored in 76 games. It's a good matchup against the soft-tossing Perez on Tuesday for Matos.

Luis Matos Homers, Collects Six RBI On Saturday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBI in Saturday's 14-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies. After driving in a career-high five runs on Friday, Matos topped that on Saturday by collecting six RBI against the Rockies. The 22-year-old blasted a three-run shot off Ty Blach in the first inning to put the Giants on the scoreboard. He hit an RBI double in the third inning and capped off his six-RBI day with a two-run single in the eighth frame. Matos has been red hot and driven in 16 runs over his last five games. Fantasy managers should add Matos off the waiver wire and use him as a streamer while he continues to swing a hot bat. Matos will look to keep things rolling in the series finale on Sunday against the Rockies.
