Luis Matos News
San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos went 0-for-4 on Monday versus the Seattle Mariners and is now hitting a weak .226 with one homer, four RBI, two stolen bases and nine strikeouts over 18 games. The 21-year-old was on fire in Triple-A prior to his promotion and remains of the more exciting all-around prospects, but his struggles may lead to a demotion if he can't get it going shortly. Matos has been playing everyday and has plenty of opportunity with Mitch Haniger (forearm) set to be sidelined for most of the second half, but he will need to start picking it up if he plans to remain in the big leagues. He's a fine watch list candidate in redraft leagues for now and managers in dynasty leagues should remain patient.
San Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos is being moved up to the two-hole in a matchup against Padres left-hander Blake Snell on Thursday. Matos debuted out of the two-spot on June 14 but has since hit no higher than fifth in his six ensuing starts. The 21-year-old has more than held his own through his first seven big-league contests, hitting .304 with a double, two steals, a hefty 20.7% BB%, and a .796 OPS across 29 trips to the plate. Matos also sports a .383 xwOBA that is above his impressive .371 wOBA to this point. Perhaps most impressive is the fact he's struck out in just one of his 29 plate appearances so far, although he'll be in tough to keep that up against Snell and his 29.2% K% on the season.
San Francisco Giants outfield prospect Luis Matos has officially been promoted from Triple-A Sacramento and will bat second versus Jordan Montgomery. Speculation of this move trickled through the news wire when he was removed in the third inning of Tuesday's game. More fuel was added to the fire when it was announced that outfielder Mitch Haniger (forearm) was diagnosed with a fractured forearm and corner infielder J.D. Davis (ankle) with an ankle sprain. Matos, 21, has been on an insane tear of late with six homers over his last seven games and is an extra-base machine that also offers value on the basepaths. Between Double-A and Triple-A this year, Matos has hit .350 with 13 doubles, 10 homers, 36 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He is worth an add in all formats.
