Maikel Franco Tallies Three Hits On Wednesday

Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Franco continued his hot start to the season on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. He's recorded multiple hits in two of his past three games. Franco and Whit Merrifield have been the only bright spots for the struggling Royals offense so far this year. Through six games, Franco is hitting .348 with a 1.072 OPS. Franco has had a number of promising streaks during his seven-year career, but is yet to prove to be a reliable fantasy producer over a full season. Maybe the shortened season will help him, but until we see a bit more sustained success, he can remain on waivers in most leagues.

Maikel Franco Homers Twice On Monday

Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Franco had a monster of a game on Monday against the Detroit Tigers, hitting his first two home runs as a Royal. Franco went 3-for-5 in the game with four RBI and two runs. Franco has started all four games for the Royals this season, hitting sixth in the order twice and seventh in the order twice. He's worth monitoring in AL-only leagues and deep leagues but is by no means a must-add player in any format.

Royals Officially Sign Maikel Franco

Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Royals signed third baseman Maikel Franco to a one-year, $2.95 million deal on Thursday. He can earn another $1.05 million in incentives. Franco will get a chance to re-establish his value with the rebuilding Royals, where he's expected to enter the 2020 season as the starting third baseman. The 27-year-old slugger became a platoon option at the hot corner in his final season with the Phillies, slashing .234/.297/.409 with 17 home runs and 56 RBI in 389 at-bats. His raw power should still play in mixed leagues, but all the swing and miss in his game will make him more of corner infield depth in hopes of a rebound.
