Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Marco Estrada (back) has been released by the organization on Tuesday. Estrada has been sidelined since April due to a back issue that needed surgery. He wasn't pitching well during his rehab outings, so the Athletics decided to let him go. He might land on another team, but won't have any fantasy value.
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Marco Estrada (back) is still not doing baseball activity yet. However, he said Sunday that he might resume playing catch sometime next week. He had an ablation procedure on his back a month ago after a dismal start to the season. Estrada has a 6.85 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and just 11 strikeouts across 23 2/3 innings in 2019, and clearly something was wrong with Estrada during the early going. The right-handed starter and 35 years old and coming back from a back issue, so he is a risky fantasy play down the stretch.
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Marco Estrada (back) said he is feeling better after an ablation procedure for his back pain. He doesn't anticipate needing much time on a rehab assignment once he's able to pitch again. The veteran right-hander hasn't done well in Oakland in his five starts before the injury, posting an ugly 6.85 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and only 11 K's in 23 2/3 frames. Better days could be ahead for Estrada this year in Oakland, but he'll have to get healthy first, and fantasy owners in mixed leagues won't be waiting for his return to the rotation.
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Marco Estrada underwent a minimally-invasive ablation procedure on his back on Tuesday after he was still experiencing pain from his lumbar strain. He will obviously need more than the 10 days on the injured list before he returns. The procedure uses radio-frequency waves to provide relief for chronic back pain. The right-hander will be shut down from all baseball activities for the next seven days, and there is no timetable for his return. Estrada is 0-2 with a 6.85 ERA and a .242 batting average against in his five starts despite pitching well in his first three starts. Needless to say, he's not worth holding onto in most mixed leagues. Chris Bassitt, who had seven strikeouts in five scoreless innings on Monday against the Rangers, will remain in the rotation with Estrada hurting.
The Oakland Athletics announced Wednesday that starting pitcher Marco Estrada(back) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lumbar strain. The former Blue Jay was skipped in the rotation last weekend, as his scheduled game was postponed due to rain. Estrada, 35, has made five starts with Oakland this year, going 0-2 with a 6.85 ERA. In his absence, pitcher Chris Bassitt has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. The 30-year-old made two starts in Vegas, allowing four runs in eight innings of work.
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Marco Estrada, who was scheduled to start on Saturday against Texas before it was postponed, will be skipped in the rotation. Brett Anderson will stay on turn and go Sunday against the Rangers. Estrada had an ERA over 5.00 in Toronto last year and the hope was that he'd be much better in hitter-friendly Oakland in 2019, but that hasn't been the case so far. Estrada is 0-1 with a 4.87 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and weak 4.4 K/9 in his four starts so far, so it might not be a bad thing that he's being skipped. Owners that were planning on streaming him in deeper leagues on Saturday will be disappointed, though.
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Marco Estrada was touched up for six earned runs, nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts over four innings in a road loss on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles. He managed to throw 67 of his 96 pitches for strikes and also uncorked a wild pitch while serving up a pair of home runs. The offense nearly got the Mexican right-hander off the hook late in the game, but they couldn't get over the hump. Oakland is now 0-3 in Estrada's three starts this season. After an ugly 7-14 season with a 5.64 ERA in Toronto last season, he hasn't shown any signs of being much better in his first few starts with Oakland. Treat him only as a back-end rotation option in AL-only fantasy formats. Next up is a starting assignment in Texas on Saturday night.
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Marco Estrada allowed just two hits with two walks over six scoreless frames while recording three strikeouts in a no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. He threw 46 of his 77 pitches for strikes, and he induced several double plays. However, Joakim Soria imploded in the eighth inning for four runs while retiring a batter, snatching a victory from Estrada's pocket. He was tremendously better in this one after serving up two homers in five innings in Tokyo against the Seattle Mariners in his season debut on March 21. He remains a must-have in AL-only fantasy play and he isn't a bad option in mixed play, either. Next up is a date with Nathan Eovaldi and the Boston Red Sox next Friday.
Marco Estrada Trying To Hide His Pitches This Spring
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Marco Estrada has a changeup that is considered one of the best in Major League Baseball. However, he throws it often and has received feedback that he's been liable to tip his pitches in the past. "I've been told that before," Estrada said. "Especially out of the stretch, it's a little easier to catch some things. It's probably one of the easier pitches to look for when you have an open hand." He is being more vigilant in hiding his pitches this spring. If he can be more secretive, perhaps he returns to the form which made him an All-Star in 2016. He could re-emerge as a Top 50 fantasy starter in AL-only leagues if he can bounce back.
The Oakland Athletics agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with free-agent starting pitcher Marco Estrada on Friday, according to a source. It's a nice place for Estrada to try and bounce back after posting an ugly 5.64 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and mediocre 6.5 K/9 in 28 starts for the Blue Jays in 2018. He'll also turn 36 in July, so there's not a ton of hope for a big turnaround at this point in the right-hander's career. The long ball was a big issue last year, so hopefully his new pitcher-friendly park can help him there. Estrada is a low-upside arm for those in AL-only leagues. Avoid him in mixed leagues.
