The Texas Rangers signed free-agent relief pitcher Matt Bush to a minor-league deal earlier this week. Bush spent the first four and a half years of his big-league career with the Rangers before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers last summer. He was released by Milwaukee earlier this year after posting a terrible 9.58 ERA (9.38 FIP), 1.64 WHIP, six walks and 10 strikeouts in 10 1/3 relief innings over 12 appearances for the Brew Crew. The 37-year-old will join Double-A Frisco and will provide Texas with some relief depth, but it remains to be seen if he'll make his way back to the big leagues. In 211 career innings over 217 appearances (six starts), Bush has a 3.75 ERA (4.20 FIP), 1.20 WHIP, 15 saves and 227 strikeouts.
The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated relief pitcher Matt Bush (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Friday and optioned right-hander Trevor Megill to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday in a corresponding move. Bush returns to Milwaukee's bullpen after spending almost two months on the shelf with right-shoulder tendinitis. The 37-year-old veteran right-hander wasn't pitching well before his injury, allowing seven runs on six hits (four homers) while walking six and striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings over nine relief appearances. However, he managed to toss five scoreless innings during his minor-league rehab assignment, so perhaps he'll fare better in the big leagues now that he's past his shoulder injury.
Matt Bush Set To Begin A Rehab Assignment On Tuesday
Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Matt Bush (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. The 37-year-old reliever has been out since late April with right rotator cuff tendinitis. He scuffled to start the season, putting up an 8.22 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 8:6 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings of relief. Ideally, he comes back and serves as the setup man for Devin Williams but he has a lot to prove at this point.
Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Matt Bush recorded his first save of the season, beating the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Wednesday. Bush pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing no hits or earned runs to clinch the save. The 37-year-old is 1-for-2 in save opportunities this year. Bush has a 3.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings this season. Given that Devin Williams is the designated closer, Bush is expected to have limited opportunities to earn saves, likely only being called upon when Williams is unavailable.
Matt Bush Steps In For Second Save Of Season Tuesday
Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Matt Bush earned his second save of the season and his first with his new team in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rays. Bush came in to protect a two-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reported that Devin Williams needed a day of rest after his heavy workload recently and Taylor Rogers (knee) was unavailable due to a cortisone injection in his knee. Bush has pitched well overall this season with a 3.38 ERA and an 11.03 K/9 rate, but his fantasy value now remains very limited with both Williams and Rogers ahead of him in terms of closing responsibilities.
The Milwaukee Brewers continued to shake up their bullpen Monday by acquiring relief pitcher Matt Bush from the Texas Rangers, per Rangers beat writer Evan Grant. The Rangers' return was not reported. The veteran will bolster the Brewers' bullpen, as he has logged a 2.95 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 29.8% strikeout rate in 36 2/3 inning pitched this season. Bush will not likely see save opportunities, making his fantasy value virtually non-existent.
Matt Bush Activated, Kolby Allard Sent To Triple-A
The Texas Rangers have activated right-handed pitcher Matt Bush (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Bush was on the injured list for a little over two weeks with right forearm soreness. The 36-year-old has primarily been used as a setup man this year, but he's also made three starts as an opener. Over 30 total appearances, he's pitched to a 4.05 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP while compiling a 2-1 record, eight holds and one save.
Matt Bush Lands On Injured List With Forearm Soreness
The Texas Rangers placed right-handed pitcher Matt Bush (forearm) on the 15-day injured list on Sunday. He is dealing with right forearm soreness. The move to the injured list is retroactive to June 25. Bush has appeared in 30 games this year, with three of his appearances coming as an opener. He's pitched to a 4.05 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP while maintaining a strong 5.1 K/BB ratio thanks to his 90th percentile 31.3% strikeout rate. Bush stated that he isn't too worried about his forearm soreness and thinks that the rest he'll have while on the injured list will allow him to finish the year strong.
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Matt Bush closed out the team's 2-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday to earn his first save of the year. He retired each of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning while recording one strikeout. This was the Rangers' first converted save of the season. The team has had something of a cryptic bullpen through the early going, somewhat owed to the fact that the team had only won four games prior to Saturday's contest. Bush received a save opportunity this past Thursday, but wasn't able to convert it. It's especially encouraging to see him receive Saturday's save opportunity despite his failed attempt just a few days back. He seems to be the favorite for saves in Texas right now, but Joe Barlow could very well be part of the mix as well.
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Matt Bush (elbow) is scheduled to begin throwing again soon. The veteran reliever has been sidelined since early April due to a flexor strain in his pitching arm. Bush has only thrown three innings for the Rangers this season and he struggled during those outings. Let's face facts, the Rangers aren't playing for anything and have no need to rush a veteran arm like Bush back on the mound. It seems unlikely he'll take the mound again in 2021.
