Tigers
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matt Manning (lat) was placed on the minor league 7-day IL on Friday, July 19, with a right lat strain. The 26-year-old has spent the majority of the 2024 campaign with Triple-A Toledo and has only logged five spot starts at the major league level. Through 59 innings a Triple-A, the former ninth overall pick has posted a 4.53 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 22:60 BB:K ratio. In the big leagues, he held a similar 4.88 ERA and 1.55 WHIP through 27 innings. The right-hander is a candidate to return to the major leagues later this summer and could be worth a look in AL-only formats, but he may have to wait until the stretch run due to this injury setback.

Matt Manning To Start On Friday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matt Manning will make the start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. It was uncertain what the team was going to do with Kenta Maeda (illness) nearing a return. The plan is for Maeda to throw on Wednesday or Thursday. After that, the Tigers will determine what to do depending on how he feels. For now, Manning will stick in the rotation and make at least one more start. Although, Manning isn't a great streaming option against the tough Blue Jays lineup.

Matt Manning To Be Promoted For Monday's Start
The Detroit Tigers have announced that they will recall right-hander Matt Manning to make a start on Monday against the Miami Marlins. Manning will take the spot of veteran Kenta Maeda, who was placed on the IL with a viral illness. Manning has started three games this year for the Tigers, going 0-1 with a 4.24 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. In a small sample size, Manning has 17 strikeouts in 17 innings and his 85.5 average exit velocity is in the 92nd percentile in MLB. It is unknown how long Maeda will be out with his illness, but Manning could make two or three starts in the interim.

Matt Manning Heads Back To Triple-A
The Detroit Tigers optioned right-hander Matt Manning back to Triple-A Toledo after the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manning served as the team's 27th man for the doubleheader and picked up a no-decision when he allowed four earned runs on seven hits (one home run) while walking two and striking out seven in 4 2/3 innings against St. Louis. He's now made three spot starts for Detroit this year. The 26-year-old threw 5 2/3 shutout innings in his first appearance but has now allowed eight earned runs in his last two outings despite striking out 14. We'll likely see Manning again at some point, and if any of the Tigers' regular starters are injured, he'll be the first to take their rotation spot.

Matt Manning Starting Game 2 Of Doubleheader
Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch confirmed that right-hander Matt Manning will start Game 2 of the team's doubleheader on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manning has fared well in his two spot start with the Tigers this year, allowing five hits (two home runs) and four earned runs while walking six and striking out 10 in 12 1/3 innings against the New York Mets and Minnesota Twins. The 26-year-old is likely to be sent back to Triple-A Toledo after serving as the team's 27th man on Tuesday, but given the matchup against a St. Louis team that could be resting some key starters in Game 2, Manning is worth a look as a streaming option in fantasy in this matchup. Through almost the first month of the 2024 season, the Cardinals hold the fourth-lowest team OPS in the big leagues at .636. Only the A's, Marlins and White Sox have been worse.

Matt Manning Has Impressive Spot Start On Thursday
Detroit Tigers pitcher Matt Manning allowed no hits and gave up no runs across 5 2/3 innings of work against the New York Mets on Thursday. He struck out three batters while walking four. Manning, who started the season with Triple-A Toledo, was added to the roster ahead of Thursday's doubleheader. The 26-year-old will likely return to the minors in the meantime, but he solidified himself as a go-to option for the Tigers if a spot in the rotation opens up. He offers modest streaming appeal in favorable matchups if he returns to the big leagues. UPDATE: The Tigers sent Manning back to Toledo after his solid spot start in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader.

Matt Manning To Pitch In Second Game Of Doubleheader
Detroit Tigers right-hander Matt Manning will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Game 2 of the team's doubleheader versus the New York Mets on Thursday. The second straight postponement against the Mets on Wednesday will mean that left-hander Tarik Skubal will presumably start the home opener in an excellent matchup on Friday against the visiting Oakland Athletics. The 26-year-old Manning is essentially the team's No. 6 starter but was forced to open the regular season in the minors. He will be a deep-league and DFS streaming sleeper in the early going against New York after allowing one run and striking out seven in five innings in his first start for Toledo last Friday. Expect Manning to be sent back to the minors following Thursday's start.

Matt Manning Optioned To Triple-A
The Detroit Tigers announced on Friday that they optioned right-hander Matt Manning to Triple-A Toledo. The team also reassigned right-hander Drew Anderson to minor-league camp. Manning will head to the farm to open the 2024 campaign after losing out on a starting rotation spot in Detroit to Casey Mize and Reese Olson. The 26-year-old former ninth overall pick in 2016 will most likely be the first man up to join the Tigers' rotation this year once a need arises. In his third year in the big leagues in 2023, he went 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA (4.81 FIP) and 1.04 WHIP with 21 walks and 50 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched over 15 starts. If Manning can get past the injury bug that has hurt him in each of the last two seasons, he could easily become a mixed-league asset for fantasy managers.

Matt Manning Looks Sharp On Friday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matt Manning has been incredibly sharp early in camp. The right-hander made easy work of the Atlanta Braves lineup during Friday's game. Manning threw four scoreless innings while striking out three batters during Friday's victory. The 26-year-old has allowed one run or less in three of his first four outings this spring. The former-first round pick has struggled to stay healthy early in his career. Manning has always had the potential to be a solid contributor at the big league level. Fantasy managers should keep on eye on him going into Opening Day.

Matt Manning Going Through Throwing Program
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matt Manning (foot) had his 2023 season cut short due to injury. Luckily, it sounds like the 25-year-old is progressing well since fracturing his right foot mid-season. The right-hander has been going through his regular offseason throwing program without any issues. That is a good sign that Manning shouldn't be limited at all heading into spring training. He held a 3.58 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 50/21 K/BB ratio over 78 innings in 15 starts before going down due to injury. Manning could be a key piece to the Tigers rotation if he can stay healthy next season.
