Matt Strahm Expects To Pitch Despite Expecting Child

San Diego Padres reliever Matt Strahm expects to remain a cog in the Padres bullpen in 2020, despite expecting a child later this year. Given an opportunity for exemption, the 28-year-old will pitch despite the high-risk potential. The lefty struggled last season, flailing to a 4.71 ERA but managed a respectable 19.7 strikeout-minus-walk percentage. While middle relievers have traditionally been obsolete in fantasy, Strahm could be a deep-league waiver option in formats deemphasizing starting pitchers this shortened season.

Matt Strahm Rediscovering Groove From Bullpen

San Diego Padres reliever Matt Strahm picked up his fourth win Wednesday against the New York Mets. Spelling starter Dinelson Lamet, Strahm completed two perfect frames, fanning four. Since returning to the bullpen, Strahm has flourished with a 1.59 ERA and eight strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings. While he might make a handful of spot starts down the stretch, it appears Strahms role will be similar to last season when he excelled with a 2.05 ERA and 0.98 WHIP from the pen. While the fantasy upside is limited, Strahm is worth a look for teams approaching innings limits in need of efficient ratios.

Matt Strahm Moved To Bullpen

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Matt Strahm will return to the bullpen for the start of the second half of the season. The 27-year-old will attempt to help the team's struggles against left-handed hitters out of the 'pen in a role that has seen him achieve some success in the past. Strahm had a 2.05 ERA in 61 1/3 innings in relief in 2018 and had a 10.65 ERA in his last five starts. There isn't a guarantee that the southpaw will be back in the starting rotation this year, so he won't have much fantasy appeal if he's working out of the bullpen the rest of the way.
