Nick Ciuffo Injured Monday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Nick Ciuffo (hand) left the game early on Monday with a right hand bruise. He's being listed as day-to-day. Ciuffo struck out in both of his plate appearances before leaving the game. He's hit just .188/.270/.313 with a homer and four RBI in 38 plate appearances this year as a backup in Tampa. He has no fantasy value.

Nick Ciuffo With His First Homer Friday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Nick Ciuffo made an impact in his first career game at Tampa Bay Friday versus Baltimore. Having been called up earlier in the week partially due to the customs misfortune of another rookie, this was Ciuffo's first chance at home. He would respond with a three-run homer that would open the scoring and stand as the eventual game-winner in the 14-2 victory. The HR was his first in the majors. Manager Kevin Cash says he plans to play Ciuffo "a lot". He is considered the most advanced catching prospect for the Rays and will benefit from the injury to fellow rookie catcher Michael Perez. Ciuffo is better regarded for his defense but has shown some progress with the bat. He is not much of a fantasy option yet.

Nick Ciuffo Called Up And Starts Monday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Nick Ciuffo was called up from the minors Monday and started versus Toronto. His ascension was partially created by a bad break for Adam Moore who was detained at the border due to a passport issue. He would go hitless Monday but came around to score a run. Ciuffo is not much of option outside deep leagues or AL-only.

Nick Ciuffo Avoids Concussion

Tampa Bay Rays catching prospect Nick Ciuffo avoided a concussion after getting hit with a backswing Thursday, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Ciuffo was struck with D.J. Stewart's backswing and had to be carted off the field with what looked to be a bad cut on his head. He did get seven staples for about an inch-long cut on his head, but is OK other than that. The 22-year-old former first-round pick was suspended 50 games last month following a second positive test for a drug of abuse. He finished the 2017 season at Double-A Montgomery.

Nick Ciuffo Has Laceration On His Head

Rays catching prospect Nick Ciuffo suffered an apparent head injury in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. Ciuffo was struck with D.J. Stewart's backswing and had to be carted off the field with what looked to be a bad cut on his head. He will most certainly be tested for a concussion. The 22-year-old former first-round pick was suspended 50 games last month following a second positive test for a drug of abuse. He finished the 2017 season at Double-A Montgomery.

Nick Ciuffo Suspended

Tampa Bay Rays catching prospect Nick Ciuffo was suspended 50 games by MLB after a second positive test for a drug of abuse. The 2013 first-round pick hit .245/.319/.385 at Double-A last year and received a non-roster invite to Rays camp this spring. This will certainly hurt his development and put him on the verge of worse consequences should he fail another test.
