The San Diego Padres have traded catcher Rafael Lopez to the Atlanta Braves for cash or a player to be named later. The move opens a spot in the Friars 40-man roster. Lopez hit .176 with three homers and 13 RBI in 102 at-bats with the Padres in 2018. San Diego is expected to open Spring Training with catchers Austin Hedges and Francisco Mejia competing for the starting job.
