Raisel Iglesias Charged With Blown Save as Struggles Linger

Atlanta Braves right-handed closer Raisel Iglesias continued to struggle on Sunday in the team's 3-2 extra-inning win over the hosting Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards and was charged with his second blown save of the season. In his inning of work, Iglesias allowed an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout. The blown save was aided by an error from second baseman Ozzie Albies, but this was Iglesias' second blown save in his last eight outings after he locked down his first 17 save chances of the year. The 36-year-old veteran from Cuba is 0-2 on the season with a 2.43 ERA (2.84 FIP), 1.08 WHIP, 21 saves, 43 strikeouts, and eight walks in 37 relief innings in 2026 in his 12th year in the big leagues. Iglesias definitely hasn't been as sharp in 9 2/3 innings in 10 outings in July, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits (three homers) while walking two and striking out 13, but he probably isn't in any imminent danger of being demoted from the closer role, especially with top setup man Robert Suarez (elbow) currently on the injured list.

Raisel Iglesias Remains a High-End Closer Despite Recent Struggles

Across 32 1/3 innings (31 games) in 2026, Atlanta Braves closer Raisel Iglesias has pitched to a 2.23 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 36 strikeouts and 19 saves. Iglesias owns a stellar 22.8% K-BB rate, and he's blown just one save chance on the year. The 36-year-old ran into some trouble in July before the All-Star break, allowing four earned runs across five innings this month. Still, Iglesias does an excellent job of limiting both walks (5.5% walk rate) and home runs (0.56 HR/9). As a result, the veteran right-hander rarely succumbs to a blow-up outing: Iglesias has allowed more than one earned run in just two out of his 31 outings this season. As long as he remains healthy, Iglesias remains a solid bet to turn in high-end RP1 production for fantasy managers.

Braves Officially Reinstate Raisel Iglesias From Injured List on Tuesday

The Atlanta Braves announced on Tuesday that they officially reinstated right-handed reliever Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list and designated right-hander Carlos Carrasco for assignment in a corresponding move. Iglesias returns on the first day he's eligible to come back from right-shoulder inflammation. He's expected to immediately reclaim closer duties from right-hander Robert Suarez, who performed admirably in the ninth inning for the Braves with Iglesias sidelined and picked up three saves. The 36-year-old Cuban hurler has 11-plus years of big-league experience, which includes 258 career saves in 744 2/3 innings pitched. Iglesias has had at least 29 saves in each of the last three seasons in Atlanta, and he tossed 8 2/3 scoreless frames with five saves for the Braves this year before landing on the IL. There's no reason why Iglesias should be floating around any waiver wires now that he's back.

Raisel Iglesias Might Not Return Until Wednesday

Atlanta Braves manager Walt Weiss said the team might wait until Wednesday to activate right-handed reliever Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list, but that was also before their bullpen was an issue on Monday night, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Iglesias is eligible to return from the IL on Tuesday after missing the last two weeks with right-shoulder inflammation. The 36-year-old veteran Cuban hurler is expected to immediately return to the team's closer role, which will push right-hander Robert Suarez into the top setup role at the back end of Atlanta's bullpen. Iglesias had some struggles early in 2025, but he corrected them to finish strong, and he threw 8 2/3 scoreless innings for the Braves with five saves in eight appearances to begin 2026 before landing on the shelf. Iglesias needs to be scooped up off the waiver wire if he's available at all. He's rostered in 92% of Yahoo leagues at the moment.

Raisel Iglesias to be Activated on Tuesday

Atlanta Braves manager Walt Weiss said that right-handed reliever Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) will be activated from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday ahead of their game against the Seattle Mariners, according to Barrett Sallee of 680 The Fan. Iglesias appears ready to go for the Braves despite not going on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 36-year-old veteran was placed on the IL back on April 21 with right-shoulder inflammation. Right-hander Robert Suarez performed admirably in the closer's role for Atlanta with Iglesias sidelined, but Iglesias should return to primary closing duties for the Braves upon his return this week. The Cuban hurler stumbled last year, but he finished out the 2025 campaign strong and hadn't allowed a run in 8 2/3 innings while striking out five in eight appearances to begin this season before his shoulder setback. If Iglesias was dropped in your league, scoop him up immediately. He's rostered in 92% of Yahoo leagues.

Raisel Iglesias Could Rejoin the Bullpen on Tuesday

Atlanta Braves right-handed reliever Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) could rejoin the big-league bullpen when he's eligible to come off the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, May 5, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Manager Walt Weiss said that Iglesias is unlikely to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated next week. The 36-year-old veteran landed on the IL with right-shoulder inflammation, but he threw off a mound on Tuesday and has been feeling good. Right-hander Robert Suarez has converted both of his save opportunities since Iglesias went on the shelf, but given Iglesias' strong start before his shoulder injury, he should return to primary closing duties in Atlanta. He's still rostered in 92% of Yahoo leagues for a reason. The Cuban hurler has 258 saves in his 12-year MLB career and has yet to allow a run in 8 2/3 innings of work with five saves, 11 strikeouts, and only one walk before his shoulder injury.

Raisel Iglesias Resumes Throwing, Could Return in Early May

Atlanta Braves manager Walt Weiss said that closer Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) has resumed throwing, per Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game. McAuley reports that the team expects Iglesias back "when first available off the IL, if not shortly thereafter." The veteran right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list just over a week ago due to shoulder inflammation and is eligible to return to the Braves' active roster on May 5. Before getting injured, Iglesias was off to an excellent start with a 0.00 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, 11 strikeouts, and five saves across 8 2/3 innings pitched. In his absence, Braves right-hander Robert Suarez has stepped in as the team's closer. However, Iglesias should re-assume his usual role in the ninth inning for Atlanta upon his return to the big leagues.

Braves Hope to Have Raisel Iglesias Back When he's Eligible to Return

Atlanta Braves right-handed reliever Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) has not resumed throwing yet, but manager Walt Weiss said that the team is encouraged by his progress and hopes to have him back as soon as his 15-day injured list stint is up, according to Grant McAuley of 929 The Game. The 36-year-old veteran is eligible to return to the Braves' bullpen on May 5, so hopefully, fantasy managers will have him back then. In the meantime, former San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez figures to see all of the team's save chances in the ninth inning. Suarez is rostered in 70% of Yahoo leagues, so fantasy managers in need of saves should check to see if he's available on your league's waiver wire. When Iglesias is ready to return, he should be inserted right back into ninth-inning duties after his strong start to the 2026 campaign. The Cuban hurler has not allowed a run in his first 8 2/3 relief innings for Atlanta while picking up five saves, striking out 11, and walking only one.

Raisel Iglesias Avoids Structural Damage in Injured Shoulder

An MRI on the injured shoulder of Atlanta Braves closer Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) showed no structural damage, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Atlanta placed Iglesias on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday due to inflammation in his right shoulder, but Bowman reports that the team is hopeful Iglesias will avoid a lengthy absence. The 36-year-old was off to a strong start to the season before getting injured, posting a 0.00 ERA and 0.69 WHIP with 11 strikeouts and five saves across 8 2/3 innings (eight games). While it sounds as though Iglesias avoided major injury, Atlanta could choose to play it safe with Iglesias and let him fully recover before bringing him back. Veteran right-hander Robert Suarez is the obvious ninth-inning replacement for Iglesias in Atlanta and should be rostered in all fantasy formats.

Raisel Iglesias Placed on 15-Day Injured List with Shoulder Inflammation

The Atlanta Braves are placing closer Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with right-shoulder inflammation. Iglesias was unable to pitch earlier on the weekend due to a shoulder injury, but was cleared to take the bump on Sunday, suggesting this was a minor injury. However, the Braves have shifted their top-ninth-inning option to the injured list earlier this morning, which will keep him sidelined for at least the next 15 days. Iglesias has enjoyed a dominant start to the season and was re-establishing himself as an elite reliever in fantasy. Through 8 2/3 innings, Iglesias did not allow a run, tallied five saves, and carried a stellar 0.69 WHIP. He struck out hitters at a 35.5% rate while walking just 3.2% of the batters he faced. With Iglesias on the shelf, fantasy managers should expect set-up man Robert Suarez to slide into the ninth-inning role and carry high-end value in all standard leagues.
