Rhys Hoskins Makes the Guardians' Opening Day Roster

Cleveland Guardians first baseman Rhys Hoskins has made the team's Opening Day roster, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post. The eight-year MLB veteran was in camp with the Guardians on a minor league contract with a non-roster invite. He appeared in 90 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last year, slashing .237/.332/.416 with 12 home runs, an 11.6% walk rate, a 27.7% strikeout rate, and 109 wRC+. He has posted above-average wRC+ numbers every year throughout his career, as well as this spring. Evidently, the offensive output was enough to earn him a spot on Cleveland's 26-man roster, and he'll have a chance to carve out a large workload as the team's projected designated hitter, batting fifth.

Guardians Sign Rhys Hoskins to Minor-League Deal

The Cleveland Guardians have signed free-agent first baseman Rhys Hoskins to a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training. Hoskins is coming off a down year in 2025, which likely impacted his free agent value. Last season, Hoskins slashed .237/.332/.416 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI across 90 games with the Milwaukee Brewers. The 32-year-old does have legit power with five seasons of 25-plus home runs under his belt. This is a low-risk move for the Guardians, who might end up getting a solid power hitter out of Hoskins. He'll earn $1.5 million in 2026, assuming he makes the roster.

Rhys Hoskins Becomes a Free Agent

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins has become a free agent after the team declined their $18 million mutual option on him on Tuesday, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Instead, Hoskins will receive a $4 million buyout and will be free to sign with any team this winter. The decision to decline the 32-year-old veteran's option doesn't come as a surprise after Andrew Vaughn took over regular first-base duties in Milwaukee toward the end of the year, relegating Hoskins to a bench role. Hoskins missed more time due to injury in 2025 and ended up playing in only 90 regular-season games, hitting .237 (66-for-279) with a career-low 12 home runs and 42 RBI. Hoskins just hasn't been the same slugger he was in Philadelphia after tearing his ACL and missing all of 2023. However, he did have 26 home runs while driving in 82 in his first year with the Brewers, so he should have a market as more of a full-time DH going into next year.

Rhys Hoskins Activated on Tuesday

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) has been activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers. Hoskins is back in the mix after missing over two months of action due to a left thumb sprain. This season, Hoskins is slashing .242/.340/.428 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI across 82 games. It'll be interesting to see how the Brewers handle first base with Andrew Vaughn playing well right now. The Brewers could use both of them and have one serve as the designated hitter. However, Christian Yelich would likely be pushed back into the outfield if they do that. Hoskins could lose some playing time down the stretch, but isn't worth rostering in anything more than deep leagues anyway.

Rhys Hoskins Likely to be Activated on Tuesday

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) is on the verge of returning from the 10-day injured list. Hoskins has joined the team for their road trip against the Texas Rangers on Monday. The right-handed slugger has a locker and is expected to be activated off the shelf ahead of Tuesday's contest. Hoskins has been sidelined since early July due to a left thumb sprain. His return will likely mean less playing time for Andrew Vaughn. At the moment, Hoskins is only worth rostering in deep leagues. Fantasy managers should check back on Tuesday for another update.

Rhys Hoskins Starting Rehab Assignment on Tuesday

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Tuesday that they sent first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) on a minor-league rehab assignment to Triple-A Nashville. Hoskins is attempting to return from a Grade 2 left-thumb sprain and could rejoin the big-league roster as soon as this weekend if he avoids setbacks in the minors this week. However, the 32-year-old veteran has been sidelined since July 7, so it's also possible the Brew Crew want Hoskins to go on a little bit longer of a rehab assignment. Andrew Vaughn has been a nice under-the-radar pickup for Milwaukee and has been thriving with his change of scenery, so it's possible that Hoskins is involved in more of a platoon at first base when he's back with the Brewers. In his second year with the team, Hoskins was hitting .242 (65-for-269) with 12 homers, 42 RBI and 30 runs in 82 games before his injury.

Rhys Hoskins on Track for September Return

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) has been on the injured list with a Grade 2 left thumb sprain since July 7. He has progressed to on-field hitting and defensive work as well. Hoskins is still on track to begin a rehab assignment in late August and could return to the Brewers' active roster in September. Andrew Vaughn has been filling in at first for the Brewers, posting a 1.055 OPS through his first 27 games, and has helped Milwaukee rack up a 12-game winning streak. When Hoskins returns, he could still slot in as the team's designated hitter after posting a .242 batting average with 12 home runs and 42 RBI before landing on the injured list.

Brewers Plan Rehab Assignment For Rhys Hoskins In Late August

The Milwaukee Brewers said Tuesday that they are hoping for first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) to be ready to begin a rehab assignment in late August as he recovers from a sprained left thumb, per MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Hoskins was placed on the injured list at the beginning of July. The 32-year-old was slashing .242/.340/.428 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI before the injury. While this timeline could put him back with the Brewers for the playoffs, it would leave little time for him to contribute to fantasy this season. Fantasy managers still looking for replacement production could turn to Andrew Vaughn, who is just 11 percent rostered and has been crushing the ball since joining the Brewers.

Rhys Hoskins Likely Out Six Weeks

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) was recently placed on the 10-day injured list after getting hurt over the weekend. Hoskins is reportedly dealing with a Grade 2 UCL thumb sprain, which is going to sideline him for quite a while. The expectation is that Hoskins is going to be out for at least six weeks. The organization is hopeful to get something out of Hoskins during the month of August. That being said, Hoskins is looking like a cut-candidate in most formats that can't place him on an IL spot. In the meantime, Andrew Vaughn and Jake Bauers figure to split up the playing time at first base.

Rhys Hoskins Placed on 10-Day Injured List

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left thumb, per a team announcement. Hoskins injured the thumb in a collision at first base on Saturday and has since been diagnosed with a grade two sprain, so this announcement comes as no surprise. Hoskins has been a steady contributor for Milwaukee this season, slashing .242/,340/.428 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 318 plate appearances. Due to the severity of the sprain, this injury figures to keep him out of action for a considerable stretch of time. Mid-season trade acquisition Andrew Vaughn was called up as the corresponding move, and Vaughn looks to have an extended runway at first base for the Brewers in Hoskins' absence.
