The New York Mets released 39 minor leaguers on Thursday, including pitchers Rob Whalen and Andrew Church. None of the moves have been made official yet by the team. Whalen was last in the big leagues with the Mariners in 2018. Church was a second-round draft pick of the Mets in 2013, who, due to injuries, never appeared in the majors for the Mets. Church made it as far as Triple-A in both 2018 and 2019.
The Seattle Mariners have called up relief pitchers Nick Rumbelow and Rob Whalen from Triple-A Tacoma to add some depth to the bullpen. In a corresponding move, the Mariners optioned first baseman Daniel Vogelbach to Triple-A Tacoma and relief pitcher Mike Morin was designated for assignment. Rumbelow and Whalen should not be owned in any fantasy formats even after being called up.
