Free agent first baseman/pitcher Ronald Guzman has signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles. The 29-year-old declared last offseason he was attempting to transition into a two-way player but that plan was put on hold when he injured his forearm after throwing a pitch in a spring training game with the San Francisco Giants last spring. He would only make 10 plate appearances for the Giants' Complex League team in 2023, going hitless in that time. He has made two pitching outings in the Dominican Winter League this offseason but issued four walks and two hit-by-pitches in the seven batters he faced, recording just one combined out while allowing three earned runs despite not allowing a hit. It's unclear how the Orioles plan to use him this spring.
San Francisco Giants infielder/pitcher Ronald Guzman (forearm) was pulled out of Sunday's Cactus League matchup due to injury. Guzman threw a wild pitch to the backstop and immediately bent down in pain afterwards. Manager Gabe Kapler mentioned that Guzman felt something in his forearm on the final pitch that he threw. The expectation is that the organization is going to have Guzman undergo further testing. Hopefully, this injury is minor, but fantasy managers will have to check back for more updates on his status.
The San Francisco Giants are listing Ronald Guzman as an infielder and left-handed pitcher. Guzman joined the Giants on a minor-league deal this offseason after playing in only three major-league games for the New York Yankees in 2022. He appeared in one game as a reliever at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year and can hit the high-90s with his fastball. It will give the 28-year-old another avenue in order to stick with the big-league team in 2023, but he won't be on anyone's fantasy radar to begin the season. Guzman has played in only 10 big-league games the last two years and holds a .225/.302/.410 career slash line with a .712 OPS, 31 home runs and 104 RBI in five major-league seasons (four with the Texas Rangers).
The San Francisco Giants signed free-agent first baseman Ronald Guzman to a minor-league deal on Thursday. Guzman spent the first four years of his major-league career with the Texas Rangers, slashing .227/.304/.414 with a .718 OPS, 31 home runs, 104 RBI, 91 runs scored and three stolen bases in 243 games played. He ended up playing in only three games with the New York Yankees in 2022, going hitless in six at-bats with five strikeouts. The 28-year-old will provide the Giants with some depth at the first base position after veteran slugger Brandon Belt left in free agency this offseason.
Ronald Guzman Signs Minor-League Deal With Yankees
The New York Yankees signed free-agent first baseman Ronald Guzman (knee) to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to Spring Training. He was limited to just seven games last season after suffering a meniscus tear in his right knee in April. The 27-year-old has flashed power with 31 home runs in 737 at-bats over four major-league seasons. The former Texas Ranger is expected to be fully recovered from his knee injury heading into Spring Training. Guzman will have a fresh start in New York, but with no guaranteed full-time role, isn't on the fantasy radar in 2022 even if he makes the big league roster.
Texas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman has declared free agency after being outrighted off the roster on Friday. First baseman Curtis Terry, infielder Anderson Tejeda, and relief pitcher Matt Bush were also dropped from the roster and are eligible to declare free agency. Guzman only registered 16 at-bats in the 2021 season, totaling one hit, a home run, but he has flashed power with 31 home runs in 737 at-bats over four major-league seasons. He has the ability to make a fantasy impact should he land a starting role in 2022, though that would appear unlikely.
Texas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman (knee) said he has been off crutches for around three days and has started to do some walking exercises. Guzman is hoping to be back on the field by late September. The 26-year-old had surgery in April to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee. Fantasy managers in AL-only leagues have no reason to hang onto him, even if he does somehow make it back late in the year. Before his injury, Guzman had a home run in 16 at-bats over seven games for Texas. He hit just .244/.314/.436 with four home runs and nine RBI in 26 games during the shortened 2020 season. Continue to leave him to the waiver wire.
Texas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman (knee) will miss the remainder of the season. The 26-year-old suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee back on April 12 against Tampa Bay, initially landing him on the 10-day injured list. However, with surgery now the most logical option, he may have played his last game with the club. Guzman was sporting some of the worst numbers of his career before getting injured, batting a miserable .063 to go along with six strikeouts. Fantasy managers could see him back in time for the 2022 campaign.
Texas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman (meniscus) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a torn right meniscus. He is expected to miss an extended period of time. However, Rangers manager Chris Woodward doesn't believe the injury will be season-ending. Guzman suffered the injury during a collision in the first inning of Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. He had to be carted off the field. Eli White is likely to see an uptick in playing time with Guzman sidelined. Nate Lowe also has less competition for playing time at first base now, though he's been slugging his way into an everyday role anyways. Guzman can be safely dropped in any deep league in which he was rostered.
Texas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman (leg) had to be carted off the field in the bottom of the first inning after colliding with two of his teammates, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Grant reports that Guzman, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Anderson Tejeda collided while attempting to make a play on a fly ball in left field, and after the collision Guzman appeared to have sustained some kind of leg injury. Grant also adds that Guzman was transferred into a wheelchair after being carted off the field. Guzman has struggled to start the year, hitting 1-for-16 with six strikeouts after slashing .308/.413/.590 with three home runs in 16 games during Spring Training. Managers should continue to check for updates on his injury status.
