Ryan Burr Lands on 60-Day Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays announced Friday that they placed right-hander Ryan Burr (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list with a strained rotator cuff. The team selected the contract of righty Tommy Nance in a corresponding move. This season may be lost for Burr, who won't be eligible to return until mid-September. That's assuming Burr doesn't suffer any setbacks in the meantime. The 31-year-old missed the first three months of the season with shoulder troubles and just returned July 6 to throw two scoreless innings over a pair of appearances.

Ryan Burr Activated from Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays have activated right-handed pitcher Ryan Burr (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list before their contest against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Burr has been unable to pitch all season due to a shoulder injury. The 31-year-old logged 12 2/3 innings of rehab work and posted a 3.65 ERA with a strong 1.05 WHIP. Last season, Burr was deployed primarily out of the bullpen in Toronto. Across 32 2/3 innings, the right-hander held a 4.13 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP. He showcased high strikeout upside as he tallied strikeouts at a high 33.6% rate, but held a modest 8.6% walk rate. Under the hood, Burr generated a solid 3.56 xERA with a .222 xBA. Fantasy managers should expect Burr to have a middle-relief role in the Toronto bullpen.

Ryan Burr Receives Cortisone Injection

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Ryan Burr (shoulder) received a cortisone injection to treat inflammation/impingement in his right shoulder, and he'll be shut down from throwing for a few days, according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. Additionally, reliever Nick Sandlin (lat) is scheduled to throw live batting practice in Dunedin on Friday. Burr experienced a setback with his right shoulder while on his minor-league rehab assignment on Monday, and now it's unclear when he might be able to rejoin the big-league bullpen. The 31-year-old veteran made six rehab appearances (one start) and had allowed five earned runs on six hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out 11 in seven innings at the rookie-level Florida Complex League and with Single-A Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo. Burr tied a career-high with 34 appearances in Toronto last year and held a 4.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB in 32 2/3 frames.

Ryan Burr Pitches In Florida Complex League

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Ryan Burr (shoulder) saw an inning of work in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday and had two strikeouts without allowing a hit. Burr was moved to the 60-day injured list at the end of April due to right-shoulder inflammation that has kept him out all season so far. However, he's now pitching in minor league games as he builds up his arm and could be an option for the Blue Jays' big-league bullpen by June. The 30-year-old former fifth-rounder by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015 out of Arizona State had a 4.13 ERA (3.07 FIP) and a 1.25 WHIP with a career-high 47 strikeouts and 12 walks in 34 outings (four starts) over 32 2/3 innings in his first year with Toronto in 2024. Burr has a 4.10 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in his five big-league seasons and won't be on the fantasy radar.

Erik Swanson, Ryan Burr Progressing

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Erik Swanson (elbow) threw 16 pitches and recorded four outs in an extended spring game on Friday, while righty Ryan Burr (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off a mound on Saturday, according to Sportsnet's Shi Dividi. Swanson is attempting to recover from carpal tunnel in his right elbow, but he appears to be making good progress and could be back with the Blue Jays as soon as next week once he begins an official rehab assignment. Burr is recovering from right-shoulder inflammation that dates back to the start of spring training, but he resumed throwing bullpen sessions on April 12 and could be cleared to go on a short rehab assignment sooner than later. Both Swanson and Burr will bolster Toronto's bullpen when they are ready, but they aren't really on the fantasy radar.

Ryan Burr Could Throw Bullpen Next Week

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Ryan Burr (shoulder) is working towards potentially throwing his first bullpen session next week, according to manager John Schneider. Right-shoulder inflammation kept Burr out for all of spring training, and he's still trying to work his way back to eventually begin facing live hitters. Because of how long he's gone without facing hitters, it wouldn't be a surprise if the 30-year-old veteran wasn't able to make his season debut until sometime in May. The former fifth-round pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015 out of Arizona State University made 34 appearances (four starts) in his first season with Toronto last year and had a 4.13 ERA (3.07 FIP) and a 1.255 WHIP with a career-high 47 strikeouts and 12 walks in 32 2/3 innings pitched. Burr is off the fantasy radar.

Ryan Burr Battling Right-Shoulder Fatigue

Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Ryan Burr (shoulder) has been dealing with right-shoulder fatigue in camp and won't appear in a Grapefruit League game anytime soon. Burr has been limited to light throwing for the time being, and the Jays expect to have a clearer picture of his next steps in a few days. The 30-year-old veteran has been dealing with shoulder problems through much of spring training this year, putting his availability for Opening Day at the end of March firmly in question. When healthy, the former fifth-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015 out of Arizona State University is likely to serve in a middle-relief role for Toronto in his second year with the team. In his first year with the Jays in 2024, Burr went 0-2 with a 4.13 ERA (3.07 FIP), 1.25 WHIP, a career-high 47 strikeouts and 12 walks in 32 2/3 innings over 34 outings (four starts). He's not on the fantasy radar.

Ryan Burr Dealing With Shoulder Tendinitis

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitcher Ryan Burr (shoulder) is battling shoulder tendinitis and has "backed off" from throwing. Keegan Matheson of MLB.com noted that Burr has begun playing catch but will hold off from throwing for some time. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as he may only need to be sidelined for a brief period. Last season, Burr posted a 4.13 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP across 37 2/3 innings of work. He tallied an impressive 47 strikeouts with a modest 8.6 percent walk rate. He also generated a strong 3.56 xERA, which suggests he may see some positive regression when he returns to the mound. When healthy, fantasy managers should expect Burr to operate as a high-leverage option in the bullpen, as he saw most of his work in the seventh and eighth innings last season.

Ryan Burr To Start Thursday, Ryan Yarbrough To Serve In Bulk Relief

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Ryan Burr will serve as the team's opener on Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels at Rogers Center, according to the team. Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough will likely be used in the bulk-relief role. This will be Burr's first "start" of the year. It's a great matchup against the light-hitting Halos, but Burr isn't going to go deep enough in this game to make him a realistic streaming candidate in fantasy. In 19 relief outings in 2024, he's posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 23 strikeouts and eight walks in 18 1/3 innings in his first year in Toronto. Yarbrough, who came over in the trade that sent outfielder Kevin Kiermaier to the Los Angeles Dodgers, has allowed four earned runs on four hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out three in his four relief appearances for the Jays. Stay away from both Burr and Yarbrough on Thursday.

Danny Mendick, Ryan Burr Optioned To Triple-A

Chicago White Sox utility player Danny Mendick and relief pitcher Ryan Burr were optioned to Triple-A on Friday, the team announced on Twitter. The moves were made to open up space on the roster for newly acquired second baseman Cesar Hernandez and relief pitcher Ryan Tepera. Neither Mendick nor Burr had much in the way of fantasy value this year, as Mendick was slashing .195/.302/.266 over 58 games, while Burr was 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA, 1.078 WHIP and 20.2 percent strikeout rate over 21 1/3 innings of work. There's no reason either player should remain rostered in any format.
