Miami Marlins infielder Sean Rodriguez has passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment on Sunday. The 35-year-old posted a .154 average across 13 at-bats in 2020 with six strikeouts. There was simply no use for him on the Marlins, and his MLB career may be coming to an end. Rodriguez has no fantasy value until further notice, as Brian Anderson will remain the everyday third baseman for the team.
The Miami Marlins agreed to a minor league deal with infielder Sean Rodriguez on Tuesday, according to a source. The 34-year-old played every position in 2019 for the Phillies except catcher, and he even threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings on the mound. That's about where the good ended for S-Rod, though, as he hit only .223/.348/.375 with four home runs and 12 RBI in his 112 at-bats. He'll have a better shot at playing time around the diamond for the rebuilding Fish, but Rodriguez doesn't offer fantasy owners much with the bat. He'll be useful in NL-only leagues for his positional versatility if he makes the team.
Philadelphia Phillies infielder/outfielder Sean Rodriguez will draw the start in left field on Wednesday versus the Detroit Tigers. Nick Williams and Aaron Altherr will get the night off to rest. Rodriguez will bat sixth versus lefty Daniel Norris. Rodriguez hasn't done much since joining the Phillies, but could be a cheap DFS option for Wednesday.
Philadelphia Phillies infielder Sean Rodriguez is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the New York Mets. The Phillies called up Rodriguez after he hit .267/.327/.622 with four homers during 12 games in the minors. Rodriguez will bat seventh and play shortstop versus lefty Jason Vargas on Wednesday. He's not much of a fantasy option, even against Vargas, who has been awful.
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed infielder/outfielder Sean Rodriguez (abdomen) on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday with a strained left abdomen. In a corresponding move, the team added shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria to the 25-man roster. It's unclear how long S-Rod will be out, but he wasn't helping fantasy owners at all this year with a .163/.276/.313 line to go along with just five home runs and 18 RBI. Hechavarria wasn't all that much better in 61 games for Tampa Bay, hitting .258 with three long balls and 26 RBI. He should function in a utility role for the Bucs.
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder/outfielder Sean Rodriguez (quadriceps) has been activated off the 10-day disabled list and has been plugged into the starting lineup on Friday. Rodriguez will bat seventh and play second base against righty Tyler Mahle. Josh Harrison (hamstring) is not starting in this game, but could be back this weekend. Rodriguez is not worth an add in fantasy leagues or DFS contests, but could see a few starts with Harrison sidelined for the moment.
Pittsburgh Pirates utility man Sean Rodriguez is reportedly close to returning after being sidelined since June 24 with a quad injury. Rodriguez has struggled in 2018, hitting just .145 with three home runs and 13 RBI. However, he's a favorite of manager Clint Hurdle as he has appeared in 53 games. He currently holds no fantasy value but perhaps could be a streamer if he hits towards the top of the lineup against a weak pitcher when he returns.
Pittsburgh Pirates utility player Sean Rodriguez was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a right quadriceps strain. The Pirates super sub is batting an abysmal .145 this year and is 1-for-25 in the month of June. He will be replaced by right-handed pitcher Tanner Anderson. Anderson is 1-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 34 2/3 innings. He had 24 strikeouts and only gave up six walks on the farm.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Sean Rodriguez is getting the start in left field Friday night against Patrick Corbin and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Rodriguez has 17 hits in 107 at-bats this year, and he has struck out 40 times. There's no word on why Gregory Polanco, who is hitting .500 against Corbin with three RBI, is not in the lineup. Austin Meadows will be in right, with Starling Marte patrolling center field.
Max Moroff, David Freese, Sean Rodriguez Playing Wednesday
The Pittsburgh Pirates are making use of their hitting depth on Wednesday. Max Moroff will make his first appearance at second base since being called up to the majors. David Freese and Sean Rodriguez also get starts against the left-handed Kyle Freeland. Ironically, Freese has actually been better when facing right-handed pitchers this season, but in his career his batting average is slightly higher when facing lefties. Rodriguez hit his sole home run this season off of a left-handed pitcher.
