"I watch him now -- he's throwing the ball really, really well," manager Dave Martinez said. "But he's a young kid that hasn't pitched that much. Doolittle had opened 2020 in the closers role before losing that gig as he scuffled with five runs and three homers yielded in three innings. Romero is an exciting young arm that hasnt pitched since undergoing Tommy John surgery in Aug. 2018, but was the clubs first-round pick in the 17 MLB Draft. Daniel Hudson will remain the clubs closer for the time being with Doolittle set to miss at least the next week.
