Guardians' Stephen Vogt Named AL Manager Of The Year
Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt was named the American League Manager of the Year on Tuesday evening. It was a pretty special first season as manager in the big leagues for Vogt, as he had a winning record, won the AL Central title and helped his club advance to the AL Championship Series. It's the third time in the last decade that a Guardians skipper has won the award, with Vogt being the fifth-youngest manager to win the award. Vogt becomes the fastest person to go from being a player to Manager of the Year winner. He finished playing on Oct. 5 of 2022 and was hired as Cleveland's manager just 397 days after with zero managerial experience. It was an impressive turnaround after the team went 76-86 in 2023. Vogt leaned heavily on his bullpen that combined to post a 2.57 ERA, the fourth-best among all bullpens since 1995.
The Cleveland Guardians have hired Stephen Vogt as the 45th manager in franchise history. The former big-league backstop replaces Terry Francona who managed the club for 11 seasons before stepping down due to a lengthy battle with health issues. Vogt, 39, played 794 MLB games as a catcher and hit .239 with 82 home runs in that time with the Rays, A's, Brewers, Giants, D-backs, and Braves. He last appeared with the A's as recently as the 2022 season. He will be tasked with turning around a Guardians club that struggled last season, finishing with a 76-86 record, good for third place in the AL Central and 11 games back of the first-place Minnesota Twins. The Guardians reached the ALDS in the 2022 season, bowing out to the Yankees in five games.
Stephen Vogt A Serious Candidate For Guardians Managerial Position
Long-time big-league catcher Stephen Vogt has emerged as a serious candidate for the Cleveland Guardians managerial vacancy, according to sources. The Guardians are looking for a new manager this offseason following the retirement of Terry Francona. The 38-year-old Vogt is currently an assistant coach for the Seattle Mariners and previously interviewed for the managerial vacancy with the San Francisco Giants, where Bob Melvin is the leading candidate. Vogt was an All-Star in 2015 and 2016 and appeared in 794 major-league games over 10 seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks and Atlanta Braves.
Oakland Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt announced that he will retire from professional baseball after this season. Vogt will retire a 10-year veteran (six seasons with the A's) in which he was a two-time All-Star. The 37-year-old played for the A's, Rays, Diamondbacks, Giants, Braves and Brewers during his career. Vogt currently has a .239/.302/.406 slash line with 81 home runs, 309 RBI, 256 runs scored and five stolen bases in his 784 career games. He made the All-Star team in back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016 with Oakland, and he hit a career-high 18 home runs while driving in 71 runs in 2015.
The Oakland Athletics reinstated catcher Stephen Vogt (knee) from the injured list on Tuesday and called up infielder Matt Davidson from Triple-A Las Vegas. In corresponding moves, Sheldon Neuse was optioned to the minors and reliever Parker Markel was designated for assignment. Vogt was out with a sprained right knee since late April, and he went 1-for-14 with a solo home run in six games before his injury. The 37-year-old veteran backstop should help back up Sean Murphy for the A's and has extremely limited fantasy appeal at this point of his career.
The Oakland Athletics placed veteran catcher Stephen Vogt (knee) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday and reinstated catcher Austin Allen from the COVID-19 list in a corresponding move. The A's also designated Miguel Romero for assignment and removed the substitute player designation from Christian Bethancourt. Vogt is dealing with a Grade 2 sprain in his right knee and will need to take some time off the field to recover. The 37-year-old suffered his knee injury on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles and doesn't have a timetable for a return. Allen will back up Sean Murphy with Vogt sidelined. Vogt had just one hit in 14 at-bats over six games and wasn't much of a fantasy option to begin with.
Oakland Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt (knee) sustained a sprained right knee during Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before exiting. The severity of his injury is unknown at this time, and he's considered day-to-day. The 37-year-old is off to a slow start after hitting .071 with a homer over seven games in 2022. Vogt isn't a fantasy catching option outside of the deepest two-catcher leagues, even if he avoids a trip to the injured list.
Free-agent catcher Stephen Vogt signed with the Oakland A's on Wednesday. The 37-year-old rejoins the Athletics, where he spent most of his career from 2013-2017 in Oakland and was named a two-time All-Star. He underwent sports hernia surgery in mid-October but is expected to fully recover before Opening Day. Vogt will serve as the backup for Sean Murphy after slashing .195/.283/.333 with seven home runs, 25 RBI, and 24 runs scored over 78 games for the Diamondbacks/Braves in 2021. The veteran isn't much of a fantasy option outside the deepest leagues in 2022.
Atlanta Braves catcher Stephen Vogt (sports hernia) underwent surgery for a sports hernia, the team reports. The 36-year-old veteran had been sidelined since early September. He was originally placed on the injured list with a designation of hip inflammation. The Braves announced that they expect for him to be ready for Spring Training next year. He was acquired by the Braves in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks in July as the Braves were looking for help to fill in for an injured Travis d'Arnaud. Vogt went on to slash just .167/.241/.244 over 26 games with the team. He'll have a chance to compete for a backup catcher role in Atlanta next year.
Atlanta Braves catcher Stephen Vogt (hip) was recently placed on the 10-day injured list. On Tuesday, manager Brian Snitker mentioned that Vogt is questionable to return to the field this season. The 37-year-old is dealing with hip inflammation and the team doesn't want to rush him back on the field. Vogt crushed two home runs during the game where he suffered his injury. However, he wasn't much of a fantasy option before that contest. Travis d'Arnaud should continue getting a majority of the starts behind the plate in Atlanta.
