Texas rangers relief pitcher Tony Barnette (shoulder) has been cleared to resume throwing. Barnette is aiming to start throwing off a mound by the start of September, and appear in game action by the end of the season. Barnette has a 2.39 ERA in 26 1/3 innings with 26 strikeouts. It is unlikely Barnette will have much of a role with the Rangers to end the season as it is unlikely we see him until late in September.
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Tony Barnette threw live batting practice on Tuesday and assuming he has no setbacks, he could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Barnette could represent a boost to a bullpen that has struggled to start the season. With closerKeone Kela recently blowing a save, Kevin Jepsen giving up four runs in a single appearance and Matt Bush continuing to perform erratically, Barnette may find an opportunity to pitch high-leverage innings sooner than later. He has borderline closer stuff and has historically been a good strikeout pitcher. If you have a deep bench and need help at reliever, Barnette may be a name to at least keep an eye on if not speculatively add.
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Tony Barnette was placed on the disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder. Barnette has been unavailable most of the season but has yet to give up a run in 2 2/3 innings of work against the Astros and the Angels. If he can get healthy soon, he's got a chance to carve out a significant role in the Rangers bullpen with Matt Bush struggling and Keone Kela bringing a lot of volatility to the back end. Barnette likely won't get save opportunities, but he might have value in holds leagues as the season wears on.
