Travis Jankowski Becomes a Free Agent

Journeyman outfielder Travis Jankowski rejected an outright assignment to the minor leagues from the New York Mets on Sunday after he was designated for assignment and cleared waivers. Jankowski only appeared in four games for the Mets before being cut, and now he'll be looking to join his fourth different MLB squad in 2025. The 34-year-old speedster has appeared in 25 games this year with the Mets, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, going 11-for-45 (.244) with two doubles, two RBI, eight runs scored and two stolen bases in 50 plate appearances. The former first-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2012 will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal with another club, but don't be surprised if he resurfaces in the majors in the second half. If he does, he'll only be worth a flier as outfield depth with speed in single-league fantasy formats.

Travis Jankowski Designated for Assignment

The New York Post's Mike Puma reports that the New York Mets have designated outfielder Travis Jankowski for assignment. Second baseman Luisangel Acuna was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. The 34-year-old joined the team a few weeks ago, but earned just one at-bat -- a sacrifice hit -- and was already the veteran's third stop this season (White Sox, Rays). Overall, in 2025, Jankowski is batting .244 (11-for-45) with two doubles, two steals, eight runs scored, and two RBI in 26 appearances. He'll be on the lookout for more work if he goes unclaimed.

Travis Jankowski Elects Free Agency

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Travis Jankowski cleared waivers on Wednesday and elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment to the minors leagues after returning from the 10-day injured list with a strained left groin. Jankowski was valuable to the Rays earlier this season when the team was dealing with multiple injuries to starting outfielders, but he'll now seek another opportunity elsewhere in 2025. Wherever the 33-year-old surfaces, he'll merely be providing outfield depth with some speed if he gets another shot in the big leagues. The former 44th overall pick by the San Diego Padres in 2012 began the year with the Chicago White Sox and has gone 11-for-45 (.244) with no homers, two RBI and two steals in 21 combined games with Chicago and Tampa. Jankowski is a career .236 hitter with only 11 homers, 98 RBI and 104 steals in 702 big-league games since 2015.

Rays Place Travis Jankowski On 10-Day Injured List With Groin Strain

The Tampa Bay Rays placed outfielder Travis Jankowski (groin) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a left-groin strain and reinstated outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. Jankowski was forced from Wednesday's game early against the Toronto Blue Jays in the seventh inning with his groin injury and will now be forced to miss at least the next 10 days. The 33-year-old veteran will be eligible to return to Tampa's big-league roster on May 25. However, now that Lowe is back after straining his oblique on Opening Day, Jankowski won't have a clear path to playing time for the Rays when he's able to return. He wasn't all that attractive in AL-only leagues to begin with aside for his speed. Jankowski is hitting .244 (11-for-45) on the season in 21 games with the Rays and White Sox, adding no homers, two RBI and two steals.

Brooks Baldwin, Travis Jankowski, Nick Maton Make Opening Day Roster

Chicago White Sox middle infielder Brooks Baldwin, outfielder Travis Jankowski and second baseman Nick Maton have all made the Opening Day roster. Prospect Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth will start in the minors, so the White Sox plan on mixing and matching at shortstop to begin the season. Jacob Amaya is probably the favorite for most of the playing time at the 6, but the 24-year-old Baldwin should serve in a utility infield role. He hit just .211 with two homers, eight RBI and four steals in 33 games in his major-league debut in 2024. Jankowski, 33, latched on with the Pale Hose after being cut by the Cubs in spring training. With Mike Tauchman (hamstring) starting on the injured list, he could see some starts in the outfield against right-handers, but Jankowski has little fantasy upside. Maton, 28, had a strong spring and will serve as middle-infield depth to begin the 2025 campaign.

White Sox Agree With Travis Jankowski On Minor-League Deal

The Chicago White Sox announced on Wednesday that they agreed to terms with free-agent outfielder Travis Jankowski on a minor-league deal that includes a non-roster invite to big-league spring training. The Chicago Cubs signed Jankowski to a minor-league deal earlier this spring, but they reassigned him to minor-league camp on Sunday and then asked for his release. The 33-year-old veteran outfielder will now try to make the major-league roster with the rebuilding White Sox, although he'll have little time to impress the coaching staff in Cactus League games. Jankowski slashed a lowly .200/.266/.242 with a homer and 11 stolen bases in 104 games with the Texas Rangers last year. However, he does have 10 years of MLB experience and could win a platoon role in the outfield with both Andrew Benintendi and Austin Slater questionable for the start of the 2025 regular season due to injuries.

Travis Jankowski Optioned To Minors

Chicago Cubs outfielder Travis Jankowski was part of a handful of cuts made on Sunday. The veteran outfielder has been reassigned to minor-league camp as the Cubs continue to trim down their roster. He joined the team as a non-roster invitee, but it doesn't appear he has impressed enough to remain with the big league club. Last season, Jankowski slashed .200/.266/.242 with 12 RBI and 11 stolen bases across 104 games with the Texas Rangers. It's unclear if Jankowski will remain in the minor leagues with the Cubs or ask for his release, so he can attempt to play elsewhere.

Travis Jankowski Signs Contract With Cubs

Outfielder Travis Jankowski signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs. Jankowski has spent the past two seasons of his career with the Texas Rangers. He won a World Series in Texas during the 2023 campaign. During that season, he held a solid .263/.357/.322 line with 12 doubles, one home run, and 19 stolen bases. However, during the 2024 campaign, Jankowski saw his production decline as he posted a much lower .200/.266/.242 slash line. He tallied just five doubles and one home run across 104 contests. He generated a weak .241 xwOBA and a 24.2 percent hard-hit rate which were both well below the average marks. Fantasy managers should expect the 33-year-old to operate as a depth outfielder in the system. He will compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster during spring training, but given his play last season, he will likely open the campaign at Triple-A.

Rangers Bringing Back Travis Jankowski

Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young announced on Friday that the team is re-signing outfielder Travis Jankowski to a one-year, $1.7 million deal plus performance bonuses for the 2024 season. Jankowski will return to give the World Series-champion Rangers outfield depth for the upcoming campaign. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter batted .263/.357/.332 with a home run, 30 RBI, 12 doubles, a triple, 19 stolen bases and 34 runs scored in 107 regular-season games in his first year with Texas. Speed is Jankowski's greatest asset, but as a bench bat for Texas, he won't really be of much use to fantasy managers in mixed leagues to open the year.

Rangers, Travis Jankowski Nearing Reunion

The Texas Rangers and outfielder Travis Jankowski are reportedly nearing a deal that will see the speedy veteran return to the Rangers for the 2024 season. The 32-year-old ended up becoming an important piece for the World Champs in 2023 as he appeared in 107 games, the most he's played in since 2018. He hit .263 with one homer, 19 stolen bases, and a quality 12.2% BB% in that time, scoring 34 runs and striking out in just 14.6% of his plate appearances, the best mark of his nine-year big-league career. The 32-year-old is a career .241 hitter with just 10 home runs in 577 big-league appearances but he also has 91 stolen bases, a 10.7% BB%, and solid glove work that make him a quality utility player.
