Trevor Bauer News
The Los Angeles Dodgers gave starting pitcher Trevor Bauer his unconditional release on Thursday. The Dodgers designated Bauer for assignment last Friday and could not find a trade partner by the deadline this Friday, so the 31-year-old right-hander will become a free agent. Bauer has been reinstated by the league following his lengthy suspension for domestic violence, but it remains to be seen if any other MLB teams will take a chance on the former National League Cy Young winner. The Dodgers are on the hook for $22.5 million. He missed all of last season, so even if a team takes a chance on Bauer for 2023, it will be tough to predict how he'll perform after previously being one of the better pitchers in the game.
The New York Mets and New York Yankees won't pursue starting pitcher Trevor Bauer, according to sources, either via trade by the Friday deadline or as a free agent. Bauer, who is still currently on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster, was reinstated his 194-game suspension. However, it's unclear if any major-league team will take a chance on him. The Dodgers would like to trade him out of the National League West, if possible. One baseball decision-maker said Bauer would have to be signed by a "team on another planet." Pitching is at a premium this year, and Bauer won the NL Cy Young as recently as 2020. The Dodgers have until Friday to trade him, and if they can't, he'll be on the open market as a free agent.
The Los Angeles Dodgers designated starting pitcher Trevor Bauer for assignment on Friday. They still have seven days to trade him, but it's hard to imagine that they'd be able to get anything of real value in return. The Dodgers are biting the bullet and will pay the remaining $22.5 million left on Bauer's deal as he likely heads to the free-agent market. The 31-year-old right-hander has been suspended for violating the league's domestic-abuse policy since June 28 of the 2021 season but has since been reinstated by the league. Bauer was the 2020 National League Cy Young winner, but given the incredibly long layoff since he last pitched in the majors and the significant baggage he brings with him, it remains to be seen if another team will take a chance on him in 2023.

What a season it was for starting pitcherTrevor Bauer in 2020 with the Cincinnati Reds. He posted a ridiculous line with a 36% strikeout rate and a 6.1% walk rate to go with his Cy Young-worthy 1.73 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. The righty had flashed this kind of upside in the past, but it had been an inconsistent career up until last season. Now that he's signed a three-year deal for just over $100 million with the defending World Series-champion Los Angeles Dodgers, he is sure to be a top-five pitcher off the board in 2021 drafts. That climb is completely justified, as Bauer's metrics really back up what he did in 2020. He added tons of spin to all of his offerings, he threw five different pitches and achieved great results on all of them, and he avoided the barrel of the bat like he never had before (.165 expected batting average, .219 expected wOBA). Everything about Bauer's 2020 season makes him look like a sure bet to be a fantasy stud once again in 2021, especially that he'll be pitching for his hometown team with one of the best offenses in baseball backing him. Bauer is a top-five fantasy ace and could come off the board as early as the late first round in fantasy drafts.
