Trevor Bauer News
As of last month, the New York Yankees were not considering signing free-agent right-hander Trevor Bauer. Unless their stance suddenly changes, The Athletic's Chris Kirschner doesn't expect Bauer to end up in the Bronx. The 32-year-old former Cy Young winner finished with a 2.59 ERA and 25.2 percent strikeout rate in 156 2/3 innings for the DeNA BayStars of Nippon Professional Baseball in 2023 and is looking to return to the U.S. this offseason. He's likely looking for a one-year, prove-it deal, but the Yankees are apparently looking elsewhere on the pitching market. It remains to be seen if any MLB team will take a chance on him after not pitching in the U.S. since 2021 for the Los Angeles Dodgers due to a domestic-violence incident.
Free-agent right-hander Trevor Bauer and his agents, Jon Fetterolf and Rachel Luba, are meeting with major-league teams in hopes of finding their client a job back in the United States for next season. Bauer went 10-4 with a 2.76 ERA for the Yokohama BayStars of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball on a one-year deal in 2023, including going 9-2 with a 1.97 ERA in his last 15 starts. His fastball bumped up one mph on average as well, hitting 99.3 mph maximum in Japan. The 32-year-old was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers in early January after his domestic-violence suspension. He hasn't pitched since June of 2021 in the big leagues. His initial 324-game ban was reduced to 194 games based on the amount of time he had already spent on administrative leave while the investigations played out. It remains to be seen if any MLB will take a cheap flier on Bauer as he looks to rehabilitate his image.
Free-agent starting pitcher Trevor Bauer will sign with the Yokohama DeNa BayStars in Japan's professional league. His deal is worth $4 million plus incentives, pending a physical. Bauer will attempt to rehabilitate his image overseas after the Los Angeles Dodgers released him in January after a lengthy domestic-violence suspension. It remains to be seen if the 32-year-old will return to the United States to pitch for an MLB team, but apparently no clubs had interest in him for the 2023 season. Bauer won the National League Cy Young in the shortened 2020 season with the Cincinnati Reds, but he's made only 17 starts since (107 2/3 innings) because of his lengthy suspension for domestic violence.

What a season it was for starting pitcherTrevor Bauer in 2020 with the Cincinnati Reds. He posted a ridiculous line with a 36% strikeout rate and a 6.1% walk rate to go with his Cy Young-worthy 1.73 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. The righty had flashed this kind of upside in the past, but it had been an inconsistent career up until last season. Now that he's signed a three-year deal for just over $100 million with the defending World Series-champion Los Angeles Dodgers, he is sure to be a top-five pitcher off the board in 2021 drafts. That climb is completely justified, as Bauer's metrics really back up what he did in 2020. He added tons of spin to all of his offerings, he threw five different pitches and achieved great results on all of them, and he avoided the barrel of the bat like he never had before (.165 expected batting average, .219 expected wOBA). Everything about Bauer's 2020 season makes him look like a sure bet to be a fantasy stud once again in 2021, especially that he'll be pitching for his hometown team with one of the best offenses in baseball backing him. Bauer is a top-five fantasy ace and could come off the board as early as the late first round in fantasy drafts.
