Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, who wasn't included on the team's summer camp roster, said that he wants to continue his career. The veteran right-hander was a star for Colorado from 2006 to 2011, but he hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2017 as a member of the Orioles. The 36-year-old Dominican was known for his funky delivery, and he was an All-Star in 2010 when he went 19-8 with a 2.88 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 214 strikeouts and 92 walks in 33 starts (221 2/3 innings). Jimenez is unlikely to have much of a market for his services at this point in his career, and it's unlikely that he'll be fantasy relevant if another team gives him a shot.
Yup. Bad Ubaldo Jimenez showed up again on Friday night. He pitched all of three innings and gave up two homers, including a grand slam to Wilson Ramos. Jimenez let in six runs overall. He's been terrible way more often than not this season and the Rays are going to get another shot at him if Buck Showalter sends him back out there. Avoid him at all costs.
Baseball doesn't make any sense sometimes. Here you have Ubaldo Jimenez, with an ERA of nearly 7.00, going up against the Yankees. This should have been like a pack of bears coming upon a baby seal. Well, the baby seal had fangs today. Jimenez went five innings and struck out 10 in that span. The only mistake he made was a solo homer to Didi Gregorius. Despite his fine effort, his ERA is still 6.57. Don't count on "Good Ubaldo" to come out for his next start.
Baltimore Orioles pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez expected to start on Sunday against the Yankees. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that starting Jimenez in New York is "probably what we're going to do." It was either going to be Jimenez or Chris Tillman, as both right-handers have been shuttled back-and-forth between the rotation and bullpen lately. Frankly, neither option is appealing for the O's, and Jimenez can safely be avoided in fantasy leagues. Jimenez has a 6.75 ERA this season and has a 10.00 ERA over his last four starts.
Ubaldo Jimenez Can't Keep Orioles From Losing Fifth Straight Game
This is the metric by which we measure Ubaldo Jimenez's 2017 season: At least he didn't have Buck Showalter yanking him out of the game in the fifth inning. He made it through that frame, but he still gave up three runs and took the loss. His ERA is 6.75 and he's still only to be used in the most desperate of situations... like a "The Last Pitcher on Earth" type of deal.
Ubaldo Jimenez Has Horrific Outing But Bats Save Him From Loss
Ubaldo Jimenez had a really short day on Wednesday. How short? He went 2 2/3 innings and gave up six runs. Miguel Castro did allow two of those runs, but they were charged to Jimenez. Yes, the Orioles are hot, but they have to be hoping that these type of outings don't occur in September. They are gunning for the second Wild Card spot and the last thing they want is a taxed bullpen. You don't need Ubaldo on your roster. 6.85 ERA heading into September? Uh. No.
Ubaldo Jimenez Has Rocky Outing To Put O's In Early Hole In Loss To A's
Like most of the Baltimore starters, Ubaldo Jimenez has not been consistent enough to warrant a permanent spot in someone's lineup. He showed why on Tuesday, giving up three homers and five runs in five innings of work. Jimenez also only struck out four and walked one. His next start will be against the Mariners... and that's likely when you should sit him and his 6.57 ERA down. If you even still have him on your roster.
Ubaldo Jimenez Has Disastrous Start In Loss To Mariners
Ultimately, Ubaldo Jimenez's 4 1/3 innings did Baltimore in on Wednesday afternoon. By the time he walked off the mound, he'd given up six runs, all of them earned. Even if the Orioles had pulled off a ninth-inning comeback due to Edwin Diaz's inability to find the strike zone with a map, he wouldn't have gotten the win. Yes, he's had some solid starts recently, but you were warned on here that he might be a bad choice against Seattle. Sure enough, he was. Jimenez, who sports a 6.47 ERA now, is going to face Oakland next, so he might be safe for that. Maybe.
Ubaldo Jimenez Sees Solid Effort Spoiled By Orioles Bullpen In Loss To A's
Aside from a hiccup in the fourth inning, Ubaldo Jimenez looked like he was going to have one of his best outings of 2017. He racked up 11 strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. The righty issued one walk. He looked to be the winner, but Brad Brach gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth to give up the lead and the game. The 11 strikeouts could be seen as encouraging, but it was Oakland, who hardly boasts a Murderer's Row. He'll face a tougher lineup in Seattle, so it's a toss-up if you want to start him and his 6.25 ERA then.
Ubaldo Jimenez Rides Run Support To Easy Win Over Tigers
Ubaldo Jimenez probably had an extra spring in his step when he took the mound in the second inning. You would too if you had watched your teammates go back-to-back-to-back in the previous frame to give him an early four-run cushion. He pitched very well in his 5 2/3 innings of work, only giving up one run - a Nicholas Castellanos solo shot. Overall, he struck out six and walked three. A few more strong starts like this and it might be time to think about possibly putting him in your lineup.
