Victor Gonzalez Earns Save Monday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez earned his first save of the season in Monday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Gonzalez came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first out on a fly-out, gave up a ground-rule double, got the second out on a fly-out, and ended the game with a groundout. Clay Holmes has pitched in three of the team's first five and converted all three of his save opportunities, so he may not have been available for the save opportunity. The 28-year-old Gonzalez now has two career saves in four big-league seasons, so fantasy managers should not get too excited over this for now.

Victor González Recalled From Triple-A Oklahoma City

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Victor Gonz lez has been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 27-year-old lefty hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021 after missing the entire 2022 season due to left elbow inflammation. He recorded a decent 3.57 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 33:19 K/BB ratio with 16 holds across 35 1/3 innings last season before missing time with the elbow. Reliever Jake Reed was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Victor Gonzalez To Undergo Elbow Surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Victor Gonzalez (elbow), who was rehabbing in Arizona, will undergo minor left elbow surgery after experiencing discomfort in a bullpen session. The surgery is expected to remove debridement. The Dodgers were hoping that the 26-year-old reliever would be able to rejoin the bullpen sometime in May, but that won't happen now. We'll have a better idea of how much time Gonzalez might miss after is surgery, but the Dodgers may not have him available now until some point in the second half of the season. Gonzalez hasn't pitched in the majors yet this year.

Victor Gonzalez Back From The Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez (foot) from the 10-day injured list on Monday and optioned right-hander Jake Reed to Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Gonzalez landed on the injured list with plantar fasciitis, but he's back and ready to go for the Dodgers bullpen in the second half of the season. The 25-year-old left-hander isn't really much of an option in fantasy leagues despite his 2.57 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 26 strikeouts and one save in 28 innings pitched, but he's a great real-life weapon and lefty specialist for the Blue. Control has been a bit of a problem for Gonzalez this year, too, with a 4.8 BB/9, and if he can't find the zone more the rest of the way, his end-of-the-year numbers won't look quite as good.

Victor Gonzalez Throws Pen Session

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez (foot) threw a bullpen session at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. The 25-year-old southpaw recently landed on the 10-day injured list because of plantar fasciitis, but the recent update would appear that he won't be on the IL long. Gonzalez currently owns a 2.57 ERA this season, and fantasy managers in leagues that utilize holds should certainly keep him on the roster while he works his way back.

Victor Gonzalez Placed On The Injured List

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez (foot) was placed on the 10-day injured list due to left plantar fasciitis on Thursday. The Dodgers recalled fellow reliever Garrett Cleavinger to the active roster. Gonzalez has been a quality bullpen option for the Dodgers with a 2.57 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 28 innings. He has also walked 15 batters. The reliever has also been a quality bullpen option for fantasy managers in leagues where holds are part of the scoring. Only A.J. Minter, Andrew Chafinand teammate Blake Treinen have more holds than Gonzalez so far in 2021. If you're looking for a replacement for Gonzalez, Dodgers reliever Jimmy Nelson might be a player to add. The 32-year-old ranks third on the team with six holds in 25 appearances and could step into a high-leverage setup role alongside Treinen. Nelson has also pitched to a 2.00 ERA while striking out 41 batters and walking 13 in his 27 innings.

Victor Gonzalez To Serve As Opener Thursday

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez will get the start on Thursday as the opener as the team visits the Washington Nationals. Tony Gonsolin was originally slated to start the game, although it is possible the impending rain delay prompted skipper Dave Roberts to save Gonsolin for a start over the weekend. It doesn't hurt, either, that Gonzalez has a solid 2.10 ERA and 1.25 WHIP on the season with 24 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings pitched. Giving left-handed Gonzalez the start Thursday is also a smart tactic, given that Nationals leadoff manKyle Schwarber has more success against right-handed pitching. While Gonzalez has nice numbers in relief this year, he's not a recommended fantasy streamer in the opener role.

Victor Gonzalez Records Third Hold Of Season

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez recorded his third hold of the young season on Friday in the Dodgers' 1-0 win over the Nationals. It was the fourth appearance for Gonzalez who has established himself as a high leverage relief option in Los Angeles. He is coming off a 2020 campaign in which he posted a 1.33 ERA, a 0.74 WHIP, and a ridiculous 23:2 K:BB in 20 1/3 innings pitched. In 2020, he only recorded two holds, compared to the three already in 2021. This certainly reveals how the Dodgers will be utilizing him going forward. While Kenley Jansen is the Dodgers closer, with Corey Knebel lurking behind him, Gonzalez should provide managers with elite ratios, solid strikeouts, and huge hold totals on a team that will have a large number of wins. Gonzalez could also potentially vulture a number of saves if Jansen falters and Knebel is unavailable to pitch on certain days. Managers in leagues that reward holds should be targeting Gonzalez as an immediate waiver wire add. Managers who have Jansen rostered may also wish to target Gonzalez as a handcuff if Knebel has already been rostered by league-mates.
