Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Yoan Lopez was traded to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday after being designated for assignment earlier this week, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. In return, Arizona received outfield prospect Deivi Estrada from Atlanta. Lopez had struggled in Arizona this year, posting a 6.57 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings of work. Estrada is a 20-year-old outfielder who has two years of experience in the Dominican Summer League, where he slashed .265/.390/.328 with one home run and 15 steals in 110 career games. If Lopez can lower his ERA with Atlanta, he could be worth taking a look at in SV/HLD formats. Otherwise, managers can ignore both Lopez and Estrada for now.
After closer Greg Holland made an early exit, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Yoan Lopez entered the game and retired all three batters he faced to earn his first save of the year. Lopez has been one of the top relievers for the D-Backs this year, posting a 2.79 ERA and a 1.060 WHIP to lead the bullpen. Manager Torey Lovullo said after the game that he doesn't believe Holland is dealing with an injury, but owners might want to take a look at Lopez as the potential next-in-line for the closer's job in Arizona.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have promoted starting pitcher Yoan Lopez from Double-A Jackson in order to receive some extra bullpen help. He will be available out of the bullpen on Monday versus the San Diego Padres. Lopez is currently the 18th best prospect in the Diamondbacks farm system. Lopez pitched with a 2.92 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 87 K's in 61 2/3 innings with Double-A Jackson this season. Lopez should not be owned in any fantasy formats.
