Monday Night Football Week 3 Preview

Dallas Cowboys (1-1) vs. New York Giants (2-0)

  • Spread: Giants -1
  • Over / Under: 39.5

Breakdown

This week 3 Monday Night Football matchup sees NFC East rivals pitted against each other.  Dallas has dominated this matchup in the recent past, winning 9 of the last 10 matchups, but that has all been with Dak Prescott.  Cooper rush will be under center for the Cowboys this week, making this a much more manageable matchup for the Giants.  Rush did beat the Bengals in an impressive week 2 victory, 20-17.  Brian Daboll has his Giants at an impressive 2-0, winning both games by 3 or fewer points.  The Giants defense has played great, allowing only 36 points combined between weeks 1 and 2.  Saquon Barkley comes into the game with 236 rushing yards, good for 7th in the league, and he has only played 2 games.  He is the engine for the Giants offense, and I expect big things from him this season. Dallas needs to find a way to get CeeDee Lamb more involved in the offense with Rush at quarterback.  He is getting the targets, 11 in both games so far, but only 104 total receiving yards and no touchdowns.

Keys to Victory

Dallas Cowboys

Make the Giants throw.  Daniel Jones has three touchdowns through the first two weeks with 364 passing yards total.  Micah Parsons will need to be hunting down the quarterback all night.  The Giants receivers have not been much of a help to Jones thus far.  Kadarius Toney only has a handful of touches through the first two weeks; injury has played a part in his limited workload and is doubtful to play in this game. Dallas should be able to get after the quarterback and force them into some third and longs in this game.  Stopping Saquon is easier said than done, but if he takes control of the game, the Dallas defense could be in trouble.  The Giants receivers have been struggling, and the Cowboys should look to capitalize.

New York Giants

Contain the Cowboys rushing attack.  Zeke and Pollard are both very good and cause defenses a lot of trouble with their complimenting thunder and lightning running styles.  Stopping the run and making Cooper Rush have to throw to move the ball downfield is vital to the Giants chances in this game.  Getting Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari back will be a huge boost for the Giants defensive line.

DFS Plays

Noah Brown: Gallup is coming back but the Cowboys should ease him back into the action.  Gallup should also be on a snap count in his first game back from injury.  Noah Brown has had a great start to the season, with ten catches on 14 targets and a touchdown through the first two weeks.  His touchdown came from Cooper Rush in week 2.  He could easily be the number 2 option behind CeeDee Lamb, and Brown has chemistry with Rush.

Giants offense: It is tough to predict which wide receiver will get the ball for this team.  Kenny Golladay has not been involved at all; Toney has been hurt and has had limited opportunities. Richie James Jr. could see involvement in the passing game.  Throughout two weeks, he has 10 catches on 12 targets for 110 yards.  Not stellar numbers, but he is getting an opportunity to be this team’s number 2 wide receiver, behind Shepard.  A cheap option could be the tight end, Daniel Bellinger.  He caught a touchdown in week two and could see some targets close to the line of scrimmage if the Cowboys pass rush is getting through.
