Portland Trail Blazers forward Caleb Swanigan has decided to opt out of the upcoming NBA restart in Orlando. The 23-year-old forward has not been a big part of the rotation, so the Blazers should be fine. He played in 20 games for the team, averaging around 13 minutes per contest. The Blazers are getting back Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkic for the restart. Both of them will see a few extra minutes with Swanigan deciding to sit out. The Blazers will also be allowed to sign a replacement player for Swanigan.
Sacramento Kings center Caleb Swanigan logged just two minutes of action during Tuesdays Summer League loss to the Miami Heat before departing due to a quad contusion. Swanigan is attempting to make the Kings roster ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, having arrived last season in a deal with Portland. The former collegiate All-American has appeared in 48 games over his first two years in the league, but averaged just 7.6 minutes per contest. Any kind of extended injury that would keep Swanigan sidelined would severely hamper his chances of beginning the year on Sacramentos roster.
The Portland Trail Blazers traded forward Caleb Swanigan to the Sacramento Kings on Thursday in exchange for fellow big man Skal Labissiere. Swanigan was languishing on the bench in the Rose City, playing a total of 45 minutes over his first two NBA season while averaging just 2.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in just 7.4 minutes per contests. He has big hands and can clean the glass, and apparently Sacto thinks enough of his to part with a promising forward like Labissiere. He'll get a clean slate with a good team, and perhaps his fantasy value increases slightly, but he is still not worth a roster spot outside of the deepest formats at this juncture.
Portland Trail Blazers power forward Caleb Swanigan has played in just three games this year, but he's grabbed double-digit rebounds in two of those games off the Portland bench. On Tuesday against the Rockets, Swanigan pulled down 11 boards to go along with two points on 1-for-6 shooting. Swanigan has taken six shots in back-to-back games and could be developing into a good option off the Portland bench. Fantasy owners shouldn't be grabbing him yet, but if his playing time and rebounding keep up he could be useful in deeper leagues.
Portland Trail Blazers forward/center Caleb Swanigan will draw his second career start against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. Head coach Terry Stotts said Swanigan will remain in the starting lineup after his promising start on Monday. He played 20 minutes scoring six points, five rebounds, one assist and two blocks. Looks like Noah Vonleh will continue to come off the bench for Portland while Swanigan joins the starting five. Swanigan is not worth picking up in standard leagues at this point, but is an interesting DFS option.
