Jalen Slawson, Jarrett Culver Sign Exhibit 10 Deals With Magic
Free agent forwards Jalen Slawson and Jarrett Culver have both signed Exhibit 10 contracts with the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. The Magic have two more two-way contracts open so it looks like they'll bring in a few people to see if they can play their way into one of those spots. Culver was originally drafted in 2019 and played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in his first three seasons and the Atlanta Hawks in his fourth. Last year, he spent the season in the G League where he averaged 20.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Slawson spent his time on a two-way deal with the Sacramento Kings and appeared in 12 NBA games where he totaled eight points and seven rebounds.
Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Jarrett Culver has been ruled out for Thursday's game against Golden State, having been placed in the league's COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Culver has appeared in just 12 games this season for Memphis, averaging 4.3 points while shooting 52.4 percent overall. Selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft, Culver has struggled to carve out a niche across his first three professional seasons, keeping him off fantasy radars in all season-long formats. He will remain out indefinitely while in the league's protocols.
The Timberwolves sent Jarrett Culver to Memphis in exchange for Patrick Beverley, who was recently acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers just a few days ago. Juan Hernangomez was also included in the deal, freeing up money while adding to the team's young group of players. Culver, a sixth-overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, appeared in only 34 games last season due to injury, averaging a miserable 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds. Although Culver's fantasy history hasn't been the best throughout his two years in the league, his outlook could change, especially if he remains healthy and receives an enhanced role in his new home. However, the 22-year-old isn't worth a roster spot in nearly every fantasy league outside of dynasty formats at the moment.
Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard/small forward Jarrett Culver (toe) has been given the thumbs up to participate in Monday's contest against the Thunder. Culver returned from a five-game absence Friday to play 10 minutes off of the bench, accruing five points on 2-for-4 shooting. Despite the suspension of Malik Beasley and the absence of D'Angelo Russell (knee), Culver has still not cracked the rotation with regularity. Despite his status as a former lottery pick, Culver has not proven to be a fantasy-relevant commodity at this stage, as he remains safe to keep at an arm's length on the waiver wire for the time being.
Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard/small forward Jarrett Culver (toe) has been listed as doubtful to suit up for Thursday's game against the Suns due to a strained toe. Head coach Chris Finch has been "hopeful" to get Culver back for the back-to-back matchup against the Suns, which could indicate that Culver may be around Friday. Culver has been on the floor for just three contests since Jan. 25, but with the T-Wolves at the bottom of the standings, his development would seemingly take precedent during the second half. Shooting just 22.9 percent from behind the arc, Culver will likely need to showcase some offensive development before he is added to the vast majority of rosters in season-long formats.
Jordan McLaughlin, Jarrett Culver Likely To Sit On Tuesday
Minnesota Timberwolves guards Jordan McLaughlin and Jarrett Culver (toe) are both expected to miss Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. McLaughlin continues to remain sidelined due to the NBA's health and safety protocols. Culver is listed as doubtful, but he has missed four straight games. There is a good chance he remains sidelined once again. Ricky Rubio and Jaylen Nowell will continue seeing increased roles with the Wolves banged up. Both are worth looking at as low-end streaming options.
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jarrett Culver (toe) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Culver isn't bringing much to the table right now, so the Wolves don't have much of an incentive to rush him out on the court. Jaylen Nowell has been filling in nicely and is coming off a 17-point outing on Saturday. He has sneaky streaming appeal while the Wolves are banged up.
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jarrett Culver (toe) is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Wolves have no incentive to rush Culver back on the court, so expect him to miss multiple games. Jaylen Nowell is coming off a strong performance and is looking like a reliable short term fantasy option. Jarred Vanderbilt and Jaden McDaniels should see more minutes as well, but aren't great fantasy options.
Minnesota Expects To Have Jarrett Culver Back Wednesday
Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard/small forward Jarrett Culver (ankle) has been listed as probable to play in Wednesday's game versus Chicago, which would end his absence at 16 games due to a sprained left ankle. Having been out of the mix for nearly a month, it's difficult to ascertain how new head coach Chris Finch will acclimate Culver to the rotation. The second year wing's role has fluctuated wildly this season, coinciding with seesawing production levels. Until fantasy managers can get a better gauge on his role, Culver is best left on the waiver wire in season-long formats and avoided in DFS scenarios.
Jarrett Culver Will Miss At Least One More Week With Injury
Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard/small forward Jarrett Culver (ankle) is facing an extended absence due to a significant ankle sprain, which is likely to keep him on the shelf for at least the next week. Having already been ruled out for Friday's game, Culver can be expected to miss the team's next four contests as well, at minimum. Jake Layman and Jaylen Nowell figure to be the biggest beneficiaries of increased playing time among the second unit, although neither necessarily merits season-long consideration at this stage. Culver can safely be dropped to the wire in the vast majority of formats while he recovers.
