Anthony Castonzo Announces Retirement

Indianapolis Colts offensive tackle Anthony Castonzo announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday. The 10-year veteran started all 144 career regular season games and eight playoff games that he appeared in with the Colts after being drafted with the 22nd overall pick of the 2011 draft out of Boston College. The 32-year-old played in just 12 games in 2020 and required season-ending ankle surgery after Week 15. Castonzo also dealt with a knee injury that slowed him down this season and ultimately played into his decision to hang up his cleats. While never being selected to a Pro Bowl or first-team All-Pro squad, Castonzo was one of the better left tackles during his run with the Colts. Indy still has a very strong offensive line, but losing Castonzo is a blow moving forward.

Anthony Castonzo Done For The Season

Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo (ankle) will miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury that will require surgery, according to head coach Frank Reich. Castonzo missed the Week 16 loss to the Steelers after suffering the injury in practice late last week. Right tackle Braden Smith also missed the game after going on the COVID-19 list, which forced Chaz Green and Will Holden into starting roles. Green allowed two sacks and four total pressures on 41 pass drops at right tackle against Pittsburgh. Holden was injured, forcing veteran J'Marcus Webb into action. Green will start at left tackle in Week 17 against the Jaguars, with Smith expected to resume his role on the right side. Indy is also expected to sign veteran tackle Jared Veldheer. The Colts offensive line is at less than full strength, but quarterback Philip Rivers is still a low-end QB1 against the one-win Jaguars. But it'll be something to watch if the Colts advance to the postseason.

Anthony Castonzo Will Miss Sunday’s Contest

Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo (knee, ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Steelers, which is sure to change the way that the offense operates. It's likely that Quenton Nelson moves over again to protect quarterbackPhilip Rivers' blindside, although how reticent that will make head coach Frank Reich in dialing up pass plays that need considerable protection remains to be seen. Castonzo played 100 percent of the team's offensive snaps last week and has been integral to the team's offensive output thus far in 2020. His loss comes against a tenacious Steelers Defense that leads the league in sacks (47). Castonzo's next chance to return to the field comes in Week 17 against the Jaguars. His absence is a clear downgrade to Rivers' fantasy value this weekend.

Anthony Castonzo Questionable To Face Raiders

Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo (knee), defensive tackle Tyquan Lewis (hip) and linebacker Bobby Okereke (ankle) are all questionable for Week 14 against the Raiders. Castonzo missed practice on Wednesday but returned to limited practices on Thursday and Friday. The 32-year-old suffered a knee sprain in Week 12 and missed last week's win over the Texans, but he could be on track to return this weekend in a big game that has plenty of playoff implications in the AFC. A Castonzo return would be great news for quarterback Philip Rivers' blind-side protection against Las Vegas' pass rush. Rivers got off to a slow start in 2020, but he's been a valuable QB streamer of late, throwing for seven touchdowns and two interceptions in the last three games. He'll be a high-end QB2 against a team he knows very well.

Anthony Castonzo Ruled Out Against Texans

Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl left tackle Anthony Castonzo (knee) and linebacker Bobby Okereke (ankle) have been ruled out for Week 13 against the Texans. Head coach Frank Reich said that he doesn't expect Castonzo to go on Injured Reserve. The 32-year-old suffered some MCL damage in the Week 12 loss to the Titans, but it looks like he shouldn't have to miss more than three games. It's still a big loss for the team's offensive line against the Texans and pass-rusher J.J. Watt. The Colts will likely replace Castonzo with Le'Raven Clark for however long Castonzo is out of action. Quarterback Philip Rivers has a great matchup against Houston this weekend, but he still remains in the high-end QB2 mix.

Anthony Castonzo Dealing With MCL Sprain

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich confirmed on Monday that left tackle Anthony Castonzo (knee) is dealing with an MCL sprain, and it's "too early to tell" how much time Castonzo will miss. The 32-year-old should miss time, meaning quarterback Philip Rivers won't have his starting blind-side protector heading into a Week 13 matchup with the Texans. Castonzo could be looking at a two- to six-week absence, so hopefully Indy will at least have him back for a potential playoff run. Expect the Colts to replace Castonzo with Le'Raven Clark on the left side, but it's a big blow to Indy's top-notch offensive line. Rivers has a nice matchup against Houston this weekend, but the loss of Castonzo is definitely bad news for the immobile veteran signal-caller.

Anthony Castonzo Avoided Major Injury

Despite exiting Sunday's game against Tennessee with a knee injury, it appears Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo only suffered an MCL sprain, not a serious knee injury. Even if Castonzo misses a little time, he'll be back this season to provide some key pass blocking for quarterback Philip Rivers. If he misses some time, the Colts offense will likely take a temporary step back.

Colts Tackle Anthony Castonzo Ruled Out

Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo (knee) has been ruled out for the rest of his team's Week 12 contest against the Titans. It's a big loss for this Colts offense, which will now have more trouble keeping quarterback Philip Rivers upright. If Castonzo misses time, drop Colts offensive players a few spots in your rankings.

Anthony Castonzo Signing Two-Year Extension

The Indianapolis Colts are signing left tackle Anthony Castonzo to a two-year, $33 million contract extension on Sunday, according to a source. Castonzo was contemplating retirement this offseason, but he'll be back as the team's starting left tackle. The 31-year-old has never been selected to a Pro Bowl, but he continues to be one of the better left tackles in the league, and he's missed only five games in the last four seasons due to injury. His return is great news for an already strong Indy offensive line, and it's good news for quarterback Jacoby Brissett or whoever the Colts have as their starting signal-caller in 2020.

Anthony Castonzo Considering Retirement

Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo said he will mull his options before deciding to return for another season in 2020. Since being drafted with the 22nd overall pick of the 2011 draft, Castonzo has been one of the better left tackles in the NFL. Losing the 31-year-old going forward would be bad news for both quarterback Jacoby Brissett and running back Marlon Mack next season.
