Darrell Taylor Brought In By Houston

The NFL's Ian Rapoport reports that the Houston Texans are signing former Chicago Bears defensive end Darrell Taylor to a one-year, $5.25 million deal. Taylor was selected by the Seattle Seahawks during the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and played three seasons with Seattle before spending 2024 with the Bears. The Tennessee product appeared in 16 games, racking up 32 tackles, three sacks, and two fumbles forced. He played the third-most snaps off the edge for the Seahawks. Taylor hasn't been as productive over the past few seasons, though he did pile up 9.5 sacks in 16 contests during the 2022 season. He figures to be a valuable depth piece for the squad and should rotate in behind teammates Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.

Trent Brown Signs With Houston

Free-agent offensive lineman Trent Brown (knee) is signing a one-year, $3 million contract with the Houston Texans. The 31-year-old started two games for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024 at tackle, but his season ended early after tearing his patellar tendon during their Week 3 outing against the Washington Commanders. The Texans continue to revamp their offensive line, with Brown making the third acquisition for the team up front, joining fellow tackle Cam Robinson and guard Laken Tomlinson. Brown was once a Pro Bowler during his lone stint with the then-Oakland Raiders back in 2019, though he hasn't quite reached that level since. Injuries have been an issue for the 10-year pro, but the move allows Houston to keep teammate Tytus Howard inside at guard.

Danielle Hunter  • DE  •  Texans

Texans Make Danielle Hunter The Second-Highest-Paid Defensive End

The Houston Texans agreed to a one-year, $35.6 million contract extension on Wednesday to make defensive end Danielle Hunter the league's second-highest-paid defensive end, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Hunter will make $32 million in 2025 (a $12.5 million raise) and $55.1 million ($54.1 million fully guaranteed) over the next two seasons. After signing a two-year, $49 million contract with Houston last offseason, the 30-year-old five-time Pro Bowler had 46 tackles (31 solo), 12 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 23 QB hits and a forced fumble in 17 regular-season starts in his first year with the team. The former third-round pick (88th overall) by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015 out of LSU has been a Pro Bowler in each of the last three years and has double-digit sacks in each of the last three years as well. He has 99.5 career sacks in nine NFL seasons and will be a starting defensive lineman in IDP leagues yet again.

Cam Robinson  • OT  •  Texans

Texans Sign Cam Robinson

The Houston Texans signed free-agent left tackle Cam Robinson to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday, a source tells ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime. Robinson, who was a former second-round pick (34th overall) by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017 out of the University of Alabama, was acquired from the Jaguars by the Minnesota Vikings last year but struggled in his 10 games in the NFC North. The 29-year-old will now head to the AFC South to help protect quarterback C.J. Stroud's blind side after the Texans surprisingly traded left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders this offseason. Robinson will be part of Houston's overhaul on the offensive line, and they will be hoping that he will fare better as a pass protector with a full offseason to learn the system. Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Robinson's deal is for one year and is worth $14.5 million.

Texans Release Anthony Averett, Waive Two More

The Houston Texans released cornerback Anthony Averett and waived safety Brandon Hill (leg) and wide receiver Kearis Jackson on Tuesday, according to KPRC's Aaron Wilson. Hill was waived with a failed-physical designation after he missed all of the 2024 season due to a right-leg injury. Averett, 30, hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2022 with the Las Vegas Raiders. He latched on with the Texans' practice squad before the postseason but is now back on the open market. Averett had 13 tackles (12 solo) in seven games with the Raiders in 2022. Hill, 24, will need to prove his healthy before another team takes a chance on him. He has only played in two career games (in 2023 with Houston) and has zero tackles. Jackson, 25, spent most of last season on the New York Giants' practice squad. In the only two games of his career (in 2023 with the Titans), he returned six punts for 48 yards.

Ronald Darby  • CB  •  Texans

Ronald Darby Signs One-Year Deal With Texans

Former Jacksonville Jaguars free-agent cornerback Ronald Darby signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal on Monday with the Houston Texans, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move comes after the Texans made cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. the highest-paid defensive back in the NFL early in the day. Darby spent the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and had 46 tackles (36 solo) and nine pass breakups in 13 games (12 starts). The 31-year-old veteran has played with three different teams (Jaguars, Ravens, Broncos) in the last three years and is now on his seventh different NFL team in his 11 years in the league. He's unlikely to have a starting role in Houston, but he'll provide veteran leadership and defense for the Texans in 2025. Darby was selected in the second round (50th overall) by the Buffalo Bills in 2015 out of Florida State and won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Texans Make Derek Stingley Jr. The Highest-Paid Defensive Back

The Houston Texans made cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. the highest-paid defensive back in the league on Monday by agreeing to terms on a three-year, $90 million deal ($30 million per year) that includes a whopping $89 million guaranteed, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 23-year-old former third overall pick by Houston in the 2022 NFL draft out of LSU was a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro for the first time in 2024 after recording a career-high 54 tackles (37 solo), five interceptions for the second straight year and 18 pass breakups in 17 regular-season starts. It was the first time he was able to stay healthy for an entire season in his third year in the league after playing in just 20 games in 2022 and 2023 combined. But Stingley proved last year that he's the real deal and he added two more interceptions in two playoff games.

Christian Kirk  • WR  •  Texans

Texans Restructure Christian Kirk's Contract

The Houston Texans restructured the contract of new wide receiver Christian Kirk on Friday to lower his salary-cap figure for the 2025 season, league sources told KPRC's Aaron Wilson. Kirk was originally due a $15.5 million base salary that was converted into a $14 million signing bonus while lowering his base salary to the league minimum of $1.17 million. The move creates around $12 million in salary-cap savings for the Texans. Houston had already restructured the contracts for receiver Nico Collins and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, and they are expected to do more restructures to Denico Autry's and Danielle Hunter's contracts. The 28-year-old Kirk ended last year on Injured Reserve due to a broken collarbone but was acquired in a trade with the Jaguars to provide the Texans with a No. 2 wideout behind Nico Collins. With Tank Dell (knee) potentially missing all of 2025, Kirk has a clear path to WR3 value in fantasy in his new home if he's healthy.

Ed Ingram  • G  •  Texans

Texans Acquire Ed Ingram From Vikings

The Houston Texans have made yet another trade involving an offensive lineman, acquiring offensive guard Ed Ingram from the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2026, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. Ingram, a second-rounder (59th overall) by Minnesota in 2022 out of LSU, will get a fresh start in Houston as they look to rebuild their offensive line in front of third-year quarterback C.J. Stroud. The 26-year-old was benched midway through his third season with the Vikings in 2024 and finished with 16 regular-season games played (nine starts). It's a trade that makes sense for both teams, as the Vikings signed both offensive linemen Ryan Kelly and Will Fries in free agency this week, while the Texans traded away left tackle Laremy Tunsil and guard Kenyon Green earlier this week.

Mario Edwards Jr.  • DT  •  Texans

Mario Edwards Jr. Re-Signing With Texans

The Houston Texans are bringing back veteran defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr., according to team reporter Aaron Wilson. The deal is expected to be for two years and $9.5 million. Edwards joined Houston's roster last offseason and posted 31 tackles and three sacks in 13 games. Overall, the former Florida State Seminole has played for seven organizations and has racked up 187 tackles (122 solo), 24.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, eight pass deflections, and 24 run stuffs in 128 career games. He'll continue to provide depth along Houston's defensive front in 2025.

Laken Tomlinson  • G  •  Texans

Laken Tomlinson Signing With Houston

The Houston Texans are signing offensive guard Laken Tomlinson to a one-year, $4.25 million contract, according to team reporter DJ Bien-Aime. Tomlinson was originally a first-round pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Duke. The 33-year-old has played in 163 games (155 starts) with the Lions, San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, and Seattle Seahawks. He has missed just one regular-season game throughout his 10-year NFL career. Houston recently traded left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders and guard Kenyon Green to the Philadelphia Eagles, so Tomlinson arrives as a likely Day-1 starter for the Texans.

Sheldon Rankins  • DT  •  Texans

Sheldon Rankins Returns To Houston

The Houston Texans agreed to terms with free-agent defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (illness) on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million on Monday, a source told The Athletic's Dianna Russini. It's a reunion for Rankins, who spent the 2023 season with the Texans before joining the Bengals in 2024. The 30-year-old defensive tackle missed three games with a hamstring injury and the final seven games with the Bengals last year after signing a two-year, $24.5 million deal last year. In his seven games played in 2024, Rankins had 18 tackles (10 solo) and one sack. The former 12th overall pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2016 out of Louisville had 37 tackles (29 solo), six sacks, nine tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown in 15 regular-season starts for the Texans in 2023. Rankins will provide veteran depth on the interior of Houston's defensive line in his return.

Derek Barnett  • DE  •  Texans

Derek Barnett Landing Back In Houston

The Houston Texans are re-signing free-agent defensive lineman Derek Barnett, according to team reporter Jonathan M. Alexander. Barnett was a first-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 out of Tennessee but has spent the last two seasons with Houston. Barnett had his most productive season since 2020 last year, racking up 26 total tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one pass deflection. Barnett is coming back on a one-year, $5 million deal and will continue to provide depth along head coach DeMeco Ryans' defensive front.

Shaq Mason  • G  •  Texans

Shaq Mason Being Released

The Houston Texans have informed starting offensive guard Shaq Mason that he is being released, a source tells FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz. Despite the fact that Mason started 32 games for the Texans over the last two seasons, they have decided to move on heading into the 2025 campaign. The 32-year-old veteran offensive lineman was scheduled to make $10 million in base salary this year. The Texans will save $2.117 million on this year's salary cap, but the move also leaves a $12.482 million dead-money hit. Mason dealt with a Grade 1 sprained MCL in his knee in 2024 but was able to return for the Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots will surely attract interest on the open market as an experienced interior offensive lineman.

Christian Kirk  • WR  •  Texans

Texans Acquiring Christian Kirk From The Jaguars

The Houston Texans are acquiring wide receiver Christian Kirk (collarbone) from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in 2026, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Texans will take on Kirk's existing contract, which is scheduled to pay him $16.5 million in 2025 in the final year of the deal. Many folks were wondering what Houston was going to do this offseason given the fact that Tank Dell (knee) might miss all of 2025 and Stefon Diggs (knee) hitting free agency. The 28-year-old Kirk isn't without injury issues of his own, though, after suffering a season-ending broken left collarbone in October of last year. He should be fully healthy for Week 1 this fall, though, and will operate out of the slot as the No. 2 behind Nico Collins. If he can stay healthy, Kirk will be an intriguing bounce-back candidate for fantasy managers now that he'll be working with quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Tank Dell  • WR  •  Texans

Tank Dell Set For His Second Knee Surgery

Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell (knee) is scheduled to have a second surgery on his knee on Wednesday to fix the torn ACL in his left knee. Dell 's first surgery on Jan. 15 was to address the dislocated kneecap that he suffered in the Dec. 21 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. the 25-year-old also suffered damage to his meniscus and tore his LCL and MCL. Because of the severity of the injury, there's no guarantee that Dell will be able to return in 2025, although he's reportedly headed in the right direction so far. Even when Dell is able to return, whenever that may be, it would be wise to expect him to have lost a step or two. After season-ending injuries to both Dell and Stefon Diggs (knee) in 2024, Nico Collins took over as the clear No. 1 wideout in Houston and was money for fantasy managers. In 14 games in his second season before his injury in 2024, Dell had a 51-667-3 line after scoring seven TDs in his rookie season.

Dare Ogunbowale  • RB  •  Texans

Texans Re-Sign Dare Ogunbowale To One-Year Deal

The Houston Texans re-signed running back Dare Ogunbowale to a one-year, $2 million deal, according to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero. The 30-year-old has spent the last three seasons with Houston as a backup and primary special teamer following two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Overall, Ogunbowale has rushed 166 times for 569 yards and four touchdowns in 95 games across four organizations. Fantasy managers should not expect Ogunbowale to be on the fantasy radar in 2025 barring a slew of injuries to Houston's running back room.

Texans Rework Nico Collins' Contract, Clear $9.8 Million In Cap Space

The Houston Texans restructured the contract of star wide receiver Nico Collins, clearing $9.8 million in salary cap space for 2025. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, it was a simple restructure. Last offseason, Collins signed a three-year, $72.75 million contract extension with Houston following a 1,297-yard receiving season. The former Michigan Wolverine posted 1,006 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in just 12 games in 2024. With Stefon Diggs likely out of Houston entering next season, Collins is poised for another strong year as quarterback C.J. Stroud's No. 1 wide receiver.

Texans Unlikely To Try And Re-Sign Stefon Diggs?

The Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander doesn't think the Houston Texans will make a big push to try and re-sign impending free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs (knee) this offseason. General manager Nick Caserio has made it sound like the door is open for Diggs to return in 2025, but Alexander thinks Diggs would have to give the Texans a hometown discount for a reunion to happen, even with fellow wideout Tank Dell (knee) potentially missing all of the 2025 season. Diggs is now 31 years old and is rehabbing a torn ACL that he suffered in late October, so it will be interesting to see what his free-agent market will look like. Because he might not be ready for Week 1, it could drive his price down, potentially creating an opportunity for the Texans to land him on the cheap. If Diggs were to return, he'd be the clear No. 2 to Nico Collins.

Denico Autry  • DE  •  Texans

Denico Autry An Obvious Cut Candidate

The Athletic's Mike Jones lists Houston Texans defensive tackle Denico Autry as an obvious salary cap casualty this offseason after starting just two of the 10 games he played in after signing a two-year, $20 million deal last year. The 34-year-old veteran did not live up to expectations and recorded only 13 tackles and three sacks in 2024. If the Texans were to cut him with a post-June 1 designation, they would save $9 million on the 2025 salary cap. It's a move that seems likely to happen since the Texans are projected to have barely more than $3 million available in cap space when the new league year begins in March. Autry was suspended for the first six games of 2024 due to performance-enhancing substances and then served as a depth option on the defensive line behind Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter.
