Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway will be trying out with the Indianapolis Colts. The 25-year-old and former fourth-round pick out of Florida had a tumultuous stint over two years in Cleveland. He had an opportunity to start, but faced multiple suspensions for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, ultimately leading to his release. After a brief stop in the XFL, Callaway attempted to revive his career with the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs, but never managed to win a role. In 25 career games (14 starts), he logged 53 catches on 98 targets for 695 yards and five touchdowns. The Colts don't have tremendous wide receiver depth behind Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie second-rounder Alec Pierce out of Cincinnati, but it will still be an uphill battle for Callaway to make the team.
The Miami Dolphins waived wide receiver Antonio Callaway on Monday. Callaway played in five games (one start) for the Dolphins this year after being reinstated from a suspension, catching just two passes on four targets for 20 yards. He caught 43 passes for 586 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games in his rookie year with the Browns after Cleveland selected him in the fourth round out of Florida. But the 23-year-old hasn't found the end zone since and has played in only nine games since 2018 while dealing with suspensions. Callaway didn't play a single offensive snap in the Week 15 win over the Patriots and will just be hoping to latch on with another organization as wide receiver depth.
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Antonio Callaway will be active for the first time this year in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Callaway has spent the entire 2020 season on the practice squad. With Preston Williams (foot) on Injured Reserve, Callaway could have a chance to find a role in the offense. DeVante Parker will be the team's No. 1 receiver, but behind him, Callaway will be competing for targets with Jakeem Grant, Mack Hollins, and Malcolm Perry. Callaway had flashes of success during his first two NFL seasons, both spent with the Cleveland Browns.
The Miami Dolphins elevated wide receiver Antonio Callaway to the 53-man active roster on Saturday and also activated linebacker Kyle Van Noy off the Reserve/COVID-19 list. A fourth-round pick of the Browns in 2018, Callaway caught 51 passes for 675 yards and five touchdowns in 20 games for Cleveland before receiving a suspension from the NFL. He's now past the suspension and will have an opportunity to carve out a role with Preston Williams on Injured Reserve and Isaiah Ford traded away at the deadline. The 23-year-old from Florida has some intriguing upside and is worth a flier in deeper leagues off the waiver wire. Van Noy's return will be a boost to a Dolphins Defense facing a potent Chargers offense under impressive rookie quarterback Justin Herbert.
Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway learned on Friday morning that he lost his appeal of a 10-game suspension for another violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. Callaway is currently on waivers after the Browns announced they were moving on on Thursday. The talented wideout fell in the 2018 draft because of off-field issues, and they have resurfaced in the NFL. The fourth-round pick had 51 catches for 675 yards and five touchdowns in 20 games with the Browns the last two seasons. He could latch on elsewhere next season, but Callaway might not be around in the NFL for much longer.
Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway is reportedly appealing a 10-game suspension that the NFL handed down earlier in the season. He tested positive for a banned substance after using a CBD edible product in the summer to deal with an ankle injury. Callaway has had several drug-related incidents since declaring for the NFL draft, including a positive test at the combine and a four-game suspension to begin the 2019 season. Cleveland finally gave up on Callaway on Thursday, waiving the former fourth-round draft pick while citing that the receiver had "too many issues." Callaway's appeal with the NFL was heard on Friday and he is still awaiting the NFL's final decision.
In a surprise move, the Cleveland Browns announced that they waived wide receiver Antonio Callaway on Thursday. Callaway was suspended ahead of the team's Week 10 matchup against the Buffalo Bills for arriving late but he was expected to return for Thursday night's showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Instead, Callaway didn't respond well to the benching, prompting Cleveland to release the 2018 fourth-round draft pick. The Browns will move forward with Rashard Higgins as their No. 3 receiver. Callaway should catch on somewhere as he is regarded as a talented player but he might have to settle for a practice squad spot. Offensive lineman Drew Forbes was activated off of injured reserve to take Callaway's roster spot.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway was a surprise healthy scratch ahead of his team's Week 10 game against the Buffalo Bills. According to head coach Freddie Kitchens, Callaway's benching was a "one-game thing" so the second-year wideout should be active for Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. A source told the Plain Dealer that Callaway's benching was for disciplinary reasons. When asked, Kitchens responded, I dont know if hes gotten the message or not, but Im not wavering. It was only for yesterday, yes.'' With Callaway back in the fold, Sunday's hero Rashard Higgins will presumably go back to the bench in three-wide packages.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway is a healthy scratch for his team's Week 10 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Callaway was spotted on the field during pregame warm-ups but was announced as inactive shortly thereafter. The team has not yet given an explanation for why he will not play. Rashard Higgins will presumably slide into the No. 3 wideout role for Cleveland with Callaway out. Higgins is not a strong fantasy option going up against a tough Buffalo pass defense.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway is coming off his most productive game of the season in which he caught four passes for 56 yards against the Denver Broncos in Week 9. He draws a tough Week 10 matchup against a Buffalo Bills secondary that ranks No. 5 in DVOA this season. Callaway could see a few more targets with top Buffalo cornerback Tre'Davious White expected to cover Odell Beckham Jr. for much of the afternoon but he just isn't consistent enough to trust in fantasy. Treat Callaway as a desperation flex for Week 10.
