The Denver Broncos have signed veteran linebacker Avery Williamson, according to Adam Schefter. Williamson's second stint with the Tennessee Titans didn't last very long, as he was released after being active for just two games. The 29-year-old recorded 111 tackles last year (38 solo) while adding an interception and a sack. He joins a Broncos defense that has been dealing with injuries at the linebacker position, so he adds some much-needed depth at the position.
The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired linebacker Avery Williamson and a 2022 seventh-round pick from the New York Jets on Monday in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round pick. Williamson will go from the league's worst record (0-8) to the best record at 7-0 with the Steelers. He'll help replace Devin Bush, who suffered a season-ending knee injury two weeks ago. Williamson is in the final year of his contract and will make $2.75 million after taking a pay cut in the preseason. Patrick Onwuasor, who is eligible to return from Injured Reserve, is expected to fill the void left by Williamson in New York. Williamson played 56 of 66 defensive snaps in Week 8 against the Chiefs, logging nine tackles. In another lost season, the Jets have now acquired 18 draft picks for 2021 and 2022. Williamson ranks 16th among all NFL linebackers with 36 tackles in 2020.
New York Jets linebacker Avery Williamson (knee) will undergo season-ending surgery after he tore the ACL in his right knee on Thursday in a preseason game against the Falcons, according to a source. Williamson had been one of the team's most consistent and durable players and played middle linebacker in 2018, accumulating 80 tackles, three sacks and one interception. He signed a three-year, $22.5 million contract in 2018. Williamson started all 16 games last year and missed only five defensive snaps, so his loss is a big one for Gang Green's D. Neville Hewitt and Anthony Wint are the top candidates to replace Williamson next to C.J. Mosley. New York's defense/special teams can be avoided in fantasy.
Free-agent linebacker Avery Williamson will sign with the New York Jets, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Williamson, an inside linebacker, will fit in the Jets 3-4 scheme, looking to help head coach Todd Bowles' defense. A fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft, Willliamson had 92 tackles and three sacks for the Titans last season, and the 26-year-old will fit in as a starter for Gang Green.
