Jaguars Cut C.J. Beathard

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Tuesday that they have released quarterback C.J. Beathard (groin) with an injury settlement. Beathard was injured in the team's second preseason game and was released after losing the backup competition to former New England Patriots QB Mac Jones. Jones will now begin the 2024 regular season as the primary backup to starter Trevor Lawrence. The 30-year-old Beathard will now look for work as a veteran backup somewhere else, as long as he's healthy. Originally a third-round selection of the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 out of Iowa, Beathard is in his sixth NFL season. He spent the last three seasons in Jacksonville, going 49-for-66 (74.2 completion percentage) with 417 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception in only 13 games played (one start).

C.J. Beathard Suffers Groin Injury

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard (groin) suffered a groin injury in Saturday's preseason contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was ruled out for the rest of the game. Beathard played the entire third quarter after following Mac Jones in the exhibition contest and finished 5-for-7 for 40 yards with 10 rushing yards on two carries. The 30-year-old veteran could lose out on the competition for the backup job behind Trevor Lawrence if his groin injury is serious enough to sideline him for the preseason finale next week against the Atlanta Falcons. In Saturday's game, Jones, the former New England Patriots signal-caller, went 16-for-23 for 210 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 14 yards on six carries. Given Beathard's injury, Jones appears to be in a good spot to win the backup job in his first year in Jacksonville.

C.J. Beathard Leads Jaguars To A Much-Needed Win

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard threw for 178 yards off 17-for-24 passing in Sunday's shutout win over the Carolina Panthers. He added three carries for 24 yards. The signal-caller didn't throw a touchdown pass. However, Beathard at least did enough to help the Jags snap a four-game losing streak. Jacksonville needs a win over the Titans in Week 18 to lock up a postseason berth. There's a chance Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) could be back, meaning Beathard will head back to the bench. Still, fantasy managers can't trust either quarterback, so Lawrence's availability versus the Titans won't mean a thing either way.

C.J. Beathard Better Left On Waivers In Week 17

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard faces the Carolina Panthers in a Week 17 matchup. QB1 Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) has been dealing with a new injury every week it seems, and was ruled out on Friday giving Beathard the start. While the career backup has filled in admirably thus far when Lawrence was forced out of games, the matchup this week is one of the least favorable for opposing quarterbacks. Carolina ranks 3rd against the position in fantasy points and passing yards allowed, and tied for fourth in touchdowns conceded. The Panthers have one of the weakest run defenses in the game which likely means a heavy dose of Travis Etienne, putting Beathard squarely off the fantasy radar this Sunday.

Trevor Lawrence Ruled Out, C.J. Beathard To Start Sunday

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (right shoulder) did not practice this week and has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. The 24-year-old has completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 3,736 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 14 touchdowns. He has also added 329 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Lawrence hadn't previously missed a game in his three-year career, but that streak will end this week. In his absence, C.J. Beathard is expected to draw the start. The veteran should be avoided in most fantasy leagues this week.

C.J. Beathard May Start Against Browns

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard appears likely to start the Week 14 game against Cleveland. QB1 Trevor Lawrence (high ankle sprain) was originally slated to miss a couple of weeks but surprisingly practiced in limited fashion on Thursday and Friday, opening the door for him to potentially start this game. Beathard was also limited this week with a shoulder injury, but was taken off the final report. Regardless of who starts for the Jaguars on Sunday, it is a very poor matchup against a very stout Browns defense that ranks 3rd against opposing fantasy QBs on the year. In a game that is also calling for 20+ MPH winds, as well as some snow/sleet, it's probably smart to avoid either signal caller for fantasy this week.

C.J. Beathard Puts In Another Limited Practice

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard (shoulder) was limited in practice again on Thursday due to a left-shoulder injury. Beathard's shoulder injury isn't something that will keep him sidelined in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns, and there's a pretty good chance he'll be forced to start under center for the Jaguars with Trevor Lawrence battling a high-ankle sprain that he suffered in the Monday night overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The 30-year-old signal-caller doesn't have a ton of experience in the NFL and would certainly be a big downgrade for the offense from Lawrence. At best, Beathard will be in play as a desperation low-end QB2 option for fantasy managers in superflex leagues if Lawrence is ruled out in Week 14.

C.J. Beathard Dealing With Shoulder Injury

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. Beathard apparently picked up a shoulder injury after replacing Trevor Lawrence (ankle) in Monday night's overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Lawrence isn't being ruled out for the Week 14 contest against the Cleveland Browns, but he's likely to sit out following a high-ankle sprain on Monday night. The 30-year-old Beathard went 12-for-14 for 77 yards and led the team to a game-tying field-goal drive to send the game to overtime on Monday. In six years in the NFL, he's appeared in 30 games and made 12 starts, completing 59.5% of his passes with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. If he makes his first start since 2020 this weekend, he'll be a desperation low-end QB2 in superflex leagues against a potent Browns defense.

Quarterback C.J. Beathard Throws For 63 Yards In Relief Effort

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard completed nine-of-10 passes for 63 yards in a MNF overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Beathard was forced into action when QB1 Trevor Lawrence went down with an ankle sprain in the fourth quarter and filled in admirably, nearly leading the Jaguars to an overtime win. The former 49er led a clutch two-minute drill late in the fourth quarter that resulted in a game-tying field goal which sent the game to overtime. Beathard also connected with Calvin Ridley on a 42-yard deep shot in OT that appeared to give the Jags first and goal inside the five, but the play was called back due to a holding call. It's looking likely that Lawrence will miss some time, and if that is the case Beathard will draw the start next Sunday vs. the vaunted Cleveland Browns defense.
