Trent Williams Restructures Contract

San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams agreed to a restructured deal in the final year of his contract in 2020. Williams is due to make $12.5 million this year, but the 49ers agreed to give him some of that up front after he didn't make any money in 2019. The Redskins traded Williams to San Francisco during the draft in April, where he'll immediately become the blind-side protector for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo after not playing at all last season. Even though Williams will turn 32 years old in July, the seven-time Pro Bowler is an immediate upgrade for the team's offensive line and should continue to be one of the better left tackles in the NFL.

George Kittle Expected To Receive Contract Extension

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is expected to receive an offer from the team that could keep him in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future. NBC Sports recently reported that the former fifth-round pick could make anywhere between $12.5 to $15 million per season, ultimately making him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL. The 26-year-old compiled 2,430 yards and 10 touchdowns off of 173 catches over the last two seasons and has been a consistent source of fantasy production as a result. He should be taken somewhere in the first or second rounds of fantasy drafts for the 2020 campaign, likely being selected after fellow tight end Travis Kelce in the majority of them.

Jimmy Garoppolo Likely To Continue Dinking And Dunking

No quarterback had a lower percentage of passes over 20 yards in 2019 than San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, according to Pro Football Focus. The Niners added wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in the first round of last month's draft, but he's more of a run-after-the-catch prospect. The plan of short throws and long runs after the catch appears to be the plan again for Garoppolo and the offense in 2020. And under head coach Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers offense is expected to remain run-heavy, leaving Jimmy G with not a whole lot of fantasy upside. In essence, he's a glorified game manager in San Francisco, making him a low-ceiling QB2.

49ers Haven't Decided On Starter At Weakside Linebacker

The San Francisco 49ers have not determined who will be their starting weakside linebacker in 2020, and it's a significant spot because they will stay on the field in nickel packages. It will come down to Dre Greenlaw or Kwon Alexander, with the loser of the competition serving as the team's SAM linebacker. Greenlaw, 23 next week, had an impressive 92 tackles (64 solo), one interception, two passes defensed and one sack in 16 games (11 starts) in his rookie season after being a fifth-round selection in 2019. Alexander, 25, has more experience with five years in the league, but he's only played in one full season (2016) and had 34 tackles, one interception, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and half a sack in eight games last year. Greenlaw is the better option to stay on the field and is quickly becoming an IDP name to remember.

Raheem Mostert Puts On Muscle

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert said that he has put on more muscle this offseason and thinks it's necessary in order to shoulder a 200-carry workload in 2020. Mostert, 28, became the team's lead back in the second half of last season and during the Super Bowl run in the postseason. He tallied 137 carries for 772 yards (5.6 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns, but he had only 14 receptions on 22 targets in 16 games (zero starts) in the regular season. His rise in 2019 will inflate his fantasy price, and even though the Niners traded Matt Breida, San Fran's backfield is still plenty crowded, especially if Jerick McKinnon can finally get on the field. Don't let Mostert's strong end to 2019 inflate his cost as anything more than an RB3/flex most weeks.
