Malik Mustapha Fantasy Stats

The San Francisco 49ers placed safety Malik Mustapha (knee), defensive lineman Yetur Gross-Matos (undisclosed), offensive lineman Andre Dillard (undisclosed) and linebacker Curtis Robinson (undisclosed) on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list on Friday. Additionally, offensive lineman Ben Bartch (undisclosed) and safety George Odum (knee) were placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list. Although there is no timetable for his return, the 23-year-old Mustapha is probably not going to be ready for the start of 2025 regular season after tearing his ACL in Week 17 of last year. When he's fully recovered from his knee injury, he figures to be a starting safety for the 49ers defense. It's unclear what Gross-Matos is dealing with, but he did miss a big chunk of time in 2024 with a knee injury. All players can be activated from the PUP and NFI list at any time during camp.

Mustapha recorded five tackles during Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears, but he appears to have picked up a chest injury along the way. It's worth noting that Monday's practice is basically a walkthrough, so the next two days will go a long way to determining his status ahead of Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Rams. Fellow safety Talanoa Hufanga (wrist) returned from the injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game. He figures to cut into Mustapha's playing time going forward.
