Mac Jones News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly acquired quarterback Mac Jones from the New England Patriots. This move was expected as Jones was reportedly on the trade block heading into the offseason. The Pats are looking to go in a new direction with Jerod Mayo taking over as the head coach in New England. Jones struggled during his time in New England and was even benched for Bailey Zappe this past season. In exchange for Jones, the Pats will reportedly receive a sixth-round draft pick. The hope is that a change of scenery will help Jones get his career back on track. This move doesn't hold much fantasy value considering Trevor Lawrence will remain the starter in Jacksonville. However, the Jags are hopeful to turn Jones into a quality backup.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the Pats have fielded calls for quarterback Mac Jones. The 2021 No. 15 overall pick showed promise in his inaugural season, tossing for 3,801 yards and 22 touchdowns (13 interceptions) off 67.6% passing. However, his production has plummeted since then. As a result, he wasn't starting consistently throughout the 2023-24 campaign, so his stock to end the season couldn't have gotten much lower. In all fairness, Jones can't take all the blame for his troubles under center. Yet, even with a new coaching staff, the 25-year-old could benefit from a fresh start with a new team. With that in mind, Jones has a long road ahead before becoming relevant for fantasy managers. But he's someone to watch over the next few months, especially if he gets paired with a coach who can help him develop.
Even though Bill Belichick is gone, New England Patriots former first-round quarterback Mac Jones, who lost the starting role and ended up the third-stringer by the end of 2023, is a trade candidate in the coming weeks and will most likely end up somewhere else in 2024. The Patriots own the No. 3 overall pick in this year's NFL draft, and all indications are that they will seriously explore taking of the draft's top QBs as they move into the Jerod Mayo era in New England. If USC's Caleb Williams and North Carolina's Drake Maye go first and second in the draft, the Patriots could take a third QB or trade back with another team if they don't like who slides to them. Jones threw for 22 touchdowns as a rookie in 2021 but has regressed tremendously the last two years, which was one of the big reasons the team moved on from Belichick after 24 years and six Super Bowl rings.
