Free-agent quarterback Mac Jones agreed to terms with the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday on a two-year deal worth $7 million with $5 million guaranteed, a source tells NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The maximum value of the deal is for $11.5 million. After one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in which he appeared in 10 games (seven starts) due to multiple injuries to starter Trevor Lawrence, Jones will head to the NFC for the first time to back up Brock Purdy in 2025. The 26-year-old looked like a backup in his 10 appearances for the Jags a year ago, completing 65.3% of his 262 pass attempts for 1,672 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. If Jones were forced into significant playing time again in 2025 due to a Purdy injury, he'd at least be set up better with better offensive pieces around him in San Fran.
The Tennessee Titans are interested in free-agent quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Mac Jones, according to Titans beat reporter Buck Reising. Tennessee is likely in search of a new starting quarterback after former second-round pick Will Levis posted a 2-10 record in 2024 behind 2,091 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Wilson and Jones were both first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft and lasted just three seasons with the New York Jets and New England Patriots, respectively. The Titans could be looking to add competition to its quarterback room to pair with Levis, but there's also a chance the team will pick Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The backup quarterback took over for the injured Trevor Lawrence back in Week 13 against the Houston Texans and has been up and down ever since. This performance was somewhere in between. He barely surpassed 200 yards in five quarters and turned the ball over yet again, but was able to find Parker Washington for another touchdown and get Brian Thomas Jr. over 100 yards receiving in a near victory. Mac Jones will most likely return to a backup role, whether with the Jaguars or another team, in the 2025 NFL season.

Jones's favorite target was once again Brian Thomas Jr., who has proven to be one of the best young receivers in the league despite inconsistent quarterback play. Both of their fantasy days were salvaged by a 62-yard touchdown in the third quarter to take a 14-13 lead. Jones will likely continue to rely on Brian Thomas Jr. in Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans.

Despite all of the injuries to the Jacksonville receiving core, Brian Thomas Jr. has been dominant as a rookie, and Brenton Strange caught 11 passes in the place of Evan Engram, giving him good enough options to succeed at least. It is hard to trust Jones in an important fantasy playoff matchup, but there are worse options in Week 16.

Along with Thomas Jr., Jones heavily relied on backup tight end Brenton Strange, who caught 11 passes for 73 yards. Jones will look to continue improving in Week 16 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Mac Jones Best Left On Benches For Fantasy Playoffs
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones will likely match his Week 14 performance in Week 15 against the New York Jets. The Jets are similar to the Titans in that they haven't been good this year record-wise but have been good against the pass. Jones finished with 220 yards and zero passing touchdowns against the Titans, leading the Jaguars to just 10 points, all of which came in the fourth quarter. After an improved performance in Week 13 against the Houston Texans in the second half after Trevor Lawrence left with a concussion, Jones returned to his form from Weeks 10 and 11 in Week 14. Given Jones hasn't thrown a passing touchdown in his three starts, it's hard to imagine things will change against the Jets in Week 15.
