Nick Bosa Making Progress from Knee Tendinitis

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that edge rusher Nick Bosa (knee tendinitis) is doing better, with his symptoms improving. Bosa missed the past week due to knee tendinitis related to his ACL tear, which he suffered early last season. Shanahan said on Tuesday, "He's making a lot of progress. He's got a lot less irritation, soreness, tendinitis, whatever you want to call it, than he had last week. He's going in the right direction, and I see him similar to Christian [McCaffrey]." The 49ers reportedly struggled during their joint practice against the Los Angeles Chargers, getting beat consistently on edge sets and play-action passes. If Bosa can't return before they travel to Melbourne to face the Los Angeles Rams, they'll face a difficult challenge because of the Rams' outside zone runs and their effective use of play-action passes.

Nick Bosa Week-to-Week With Knee Tendinitis

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (knee) is now considered week-to-week because of tendinitis in his surgically repaired knee, according to Ari Meirov. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the diagnosis Tuesday after Bosa had missed three straight practices with soreness. The 28-year-old is still making his way back from the torn right ACL that ended his 2025 season in Week 3 against Arizona. He recorded 17 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles in three games before the injury. Bosa had been working his way through training camp before the soreness became an issue, and the week-to-week designation means his return to a normal practice schedule will have to wait a little longer. There has been no indication from the team that this is another ACL injury, but tendinitis in the same knee certainly gives San Francisco reason to be careful with its star pass rusher.

Nick Bosa Misses Another Practice With "Soreness"

San Francisco 49ers All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa (knee), who is returning this year from a torn ACL, missed his fourth straight training camp practice on Monday due to "soreness," according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. The 49ers are already the most banged-up team in the NFL early in training camp, but the 49ers are most likely practicing extra caution with the oft-injured 28-year-old pass-rusher, who played in only three games in 2025. The five-time Pro Bowler can be a game-changer when he's fully healthy, but the 2025 campaign was his second season with fewer than five games played in a season due to injury. Bosa still has time to get ready for Week 1 of the 2026 regular season in Australia against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams, but even if he's ready, he'll be a boom/bust defensive lineman in IDP fantasy leagues in what will be his eighth year in the NFL. Since leading the league with 18.5 sacks in 2022, Bosa has gone in the wrong direction with 10.5 sacks in 2023, nine sacks in 2024, and just two sacks last year.

Nick Bosa Doing Work Off to the Side at Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (knee) has yet to take part in team drills or one-on-one work at training camp, but he spent time with veteran offensive tackle Trent Williams doing some work on the side during one-on-one pass-rush drills on Friday to start getting back up to speed, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. The 49ers are easing Bosa back into the mix this summer after he suffered a torn ACL in his knee in Week 3 of last year. He avoided the Physically Unable to Perform list to open camp, but it's unclear when he'll be a full-go. "I can't tell he had an injury and came back from anything," Williams said. "Most people with an injury that catastrophic, you can see it with something like atrophy in the leg. Bosa looks better than he did before he got hurt." The Niners had the fewest sacks in the NFL in 2025, but getting a healthy Bosa back this year would go a long way in turning that around. The 28-year-old five-time Pro Bowler had a league-best 18.5 sacks in 2022 and has 64.5 sacks in seven NFL seasons, but he remains a big injury risk at D-line in IDP fantasy formats.

Nick Bosa, Fred Warner Cleared for Start of Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (knee) and linebacker Fred Warner (ankle) have been cleared for training camp. Bosa tore the ACL in his right knee during Week 3 last season and finished the year with 17 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles in three games. He will not open camp on an injury list, though the 49ers plan to bring him along gradually over the first few practices. Warner is further ahead in his recovery after fracturing and dislocating his right ankle in Week 6. He recorded 50 tackles, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in six games before the injury. General manager John Lynch said Warner is back at full speed. The return of both defensive leaders is a major boost for San Francisco, but Bosa's workload remains the situation to watch as camp begins.

49ers Expect Nick Bosa Back for Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said that he expects defensive lineman Nick Bosa (knee) to be back from his ACL tear for training camp this summer, according to David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard. Bosa had surgery last September for a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 3. Since the injury occurred so early in the year in 2025, the 28-year-old All-Pro pass-rusher has a shot to be ready for the start of the 2026 regular season, depending on how he looks in training camp and the preseason. Getting Bosa back will be a massive boost to what was a totally banged-up defensive unit last year. The five-time Pro Bowler is a high-end IDP fantasy pass-rushing option when fully healthy, but he's high-risk, high-reward because of his lengthy injury history. Bosa led the league in sacks with 18.5 in 2022, and he has 64.5 sacks in his 85 games played over his seven NFL seasons. Twice in his career, though, Bosa has played in fewer than five games in a single season due to injuries.

49ers Restructure Nick Bosa's Contract

The San Francisco 49ers did a simple restructure on All-Pro pass-rusher Nick Bosa's contract on Saturday, clearing $17.172 million in salary cap space for this year, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. Bosa is still due $23.18 million this year, but his 2027 camp number is now a whopping $54,866,753. The Niners are clearly prioritizing winning now over long-term cap relief. The 28-year-old defensive end only played in three games in 2025 in his seventh year in the league due to a torn ACL that he suffered in late September. The 49ers are hopeful that the five-time Pro Bowler will be back in time for training camp this summer. Bosa's health will be crucial in determining whether the Niners' defense can bounce back in 2026. Before his torn ACL last year, he had 17 tackles (nine solo) and two sacks. Injuries have been an issue for him in his career, but if Bosa is healthy, he's one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL. He has 64.5 sacks in 85 regular-season games (83 starts).

Nick Bosa Expected to Return Around Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said on Wednesday that defensive end Nick Bosa (knee) is expected to return from his ACL injury around the start of training camp, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Bosa tore the ACL in his right knee back on Sept. 21 (Week 3), so he should have a chance to be ready for the start of the 2026 regular season this fall, depending on how he does in his recovery. First-round defensive lineman Mykel Williams (knee) is also expected to be ready to return around training camp. It would be great news for the 49ers' defense if both Bosa and Williams are ready for Week 1, considering how banged up the team's defense was in 2025. Bosa was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2022, when he had a league-high 18.5 sacks, but durability issues make him a risk/reward pass-rusher in IDP fantasy formats.

Nick Bosa to Undergo ACL Surgery on Friday

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch noted on Friday that edge rusher Nick Bosa (knee) will undergo a procedure to repair his torn ACL. Reportedly, the 27-year-old will again have his surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who handled the procedure on his left knee in 2020, as well as some of his teammates'. According to the team, the injury involves only Bosa's ACL, so it will be a less complicated surgery (and rehab) than that of his teammate Brandon Aiyuk's (knee). Regardless, the seventh-year pro will now begin the long road to recovery, and, likely, we don't see him until around the same time next season. Teammate Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) figures to rotate in behind Bryce Huff and Mykel Williams for the time being, as long as he's active.

Nick Bosa Returns to Practice in Limited Capacity

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (neck) returned to certain portions of practice on Tuesday but was held out of team drills, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Bosa has been battling neck soreness, but it appears he's nearing a full return with plenty of time before the regular season gets underway. The 27-year-old is coming off a down year by his standards, recording his fewest sacks (nine), solo tackles (33), and QB hits (24) since his rookie season. Bosa is just a few seasons removed from winning Defensive Player of the Year, so he still has the potential to be a game-wrecking edge rusher and a fantasy asset in IDP leagues.
