Commanders Sign Clelin Ferrell

The Washington Commanders announced on Wednesday that they signed free-agent defensive end Clelin Ferrell to an undisclosed deal. Ferrell was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019 in the first round (fourth overall) out of Clemson and spent his first four years with the Black and Silver before recording 28 tackles (15 solo), 3.5 sacks, six tackles for loss, 13 QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 17 regular-season starts in 2023 with the San Francisco 49ers. The 26-year-old wasn't available for the team's Super Bowl run due to a knee injury, but he should be healthy for the start of the 2024 regular season this fall in D.C. Ferrell will provide defensive-line depth for the Commanders after producing 133 career tackles (73 solo), 13.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, 45 QB hits, 12 passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 75 games (47 starts) over his five NFL seasons.

Clelin Ferrell Signing With Commanders

Free-agent edge rusher Clelin Ferrell is expected to sign with the Washington Commanders, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft has not lived up to his draft capital, posting 13.5 sacks through his first 75 NFL games with the Raiders and San Francisco 49ers. The 24-year-old is likely to be utilized as a rotational pass rusher in Dan Quinn's defense, but expectations should be tempered. Washington continues to be active in the free-agent market, and the 53-man roster should be much deeper in 2024.

49ers Reach Agreement With Clelin Ferrell

The San Francisco 49ers reached an agreement on an undisclosed one-year deal with former Las Vegas Raiders first-round pick Clelin Ferrell on Wednesday, according to a source. Ferrell was the fourth overall pick back in 2019 out of Clemson, and he spent four seasons with the Raiders before moving on. The 25-year-old was a massive bust for the Black and Silver, but the Nines are hoping he'll fare better with a change of scenery. In his four years with the Raiders, the 25-year-old had only 105 tackles (58 solo), 10 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, 32 QB hits, 11 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 58 games (30 starts). Ferrell isn't an every-down player at this point in his career, but San Fran's outstanding D-line could make things easier on him.

Clelin Ferrell A Healthy Scratch On Monday Night

Former Las Vegas Raiders first-rounder Clelin Ferrell is a healthy inactive for Monday Night Football in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. Ferrell was actually general manager Mike Mayock's first first-round selection (fourth overall) back in 2019. The 24-year-old edge rusher was held out of the preseason finale with an undisclosed injury, but this is an odd move since he wasn't on the final injury report for Week 1. Ferrell had 27 tackles (18 solo) and only two sacks in 11 games last year, and he was entering training camp competing for snaps with Maxx Crosby. Apparently, Ferrell lost that battle and has officially become a first-round bust.

Clelin Ferrell Has Chance To Return

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Clelin Ferrell (COVID-19) has a chance to return to the field on Sunday after missing his team's Week 11 game. The team will see how he feels in the hours before kickoff. Ferrell had started every game this year before testing positive for the virus, compiling 19 tackles and seven quarterback hits. The pass-rusher is off the IDP radar at the moment, as he has yet to record a sack on the season. The Raiders' defense as a unit should be avoided if possible, as they have a tough matchup with the Falcons offense.

Clelin Ferrell Likely Out For Raiders Defense

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Clelin Ferrell tested positive for COVID-19 and is likely to miss the Week 11 game against the division-rival Chiefs. Ferrell was placed on the COVID-19 list on Tuesday. Safety Lamarcus Joyner, who was also put on the list, was deemed a high-risk close contact. If Joyner tests negative, he could play on Sunday against Kansas City. Former LSU edge rusher Arden Key is listed as Ferrell's backup on the depth chart. The Raiders will need all the help they can get if they hope to slow down the Chiefs high-flying offense and beat them for the second time this season. Despite already beating KC once, the Raiders defense should be avoided as a fantasy option this weekend.

Clelin Ferrell, Lamarcus Joyner Going On COVID-19 List

The Las Vegas Raiders placed defensive end Clelin Ferrell and defensive back Lamarcus Joyner on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday. If both Ferrell and Joyner were deemed high-risk close contacts of someone that tested positive for the virus, they'll have a chance to play in Week 12 against the division-rival Chiefs. But if both players tested positive for COVID-19, they will likely be forced to sit out this weekend. Either way, Las Vegas' defense is a poor choice for fantasy lineups on Sunday against the high-flying offensive attack of the Chiefs led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Clelin Ferrell Bulks Up

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Clelin Ferrell bulked up this offseason amid an 18-week workout regimen in Miami to put on 13 pounds after a disappointing rookie season that saw the fourth overall pick finish with 4.5 sacks, five deflected passes and 24 solo tackles. Ferrell was considered a reach in the top five of last year's draft coming out of Clemson, and his less-than-stellar first season in the league puts him on the spot to improve in his sophomore campaign. With added weight going into his second year, Ferrell hopefully will be able to use his frame to bully offensive tackles more frequently to help the Raiders improve their stagnant pass rush. You can ignore Ferrell in most IDP formats until he proves that he can get to the opposing QB more often.

Raiders Take Clelin Ferrell At No. 4 Overall

The Oakland Raiders selected Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. Ferrell clearly has first-round talent, and he's a traditional 3-4 defensive end that should fit well in Oakland's defensive system. Some thought that Josh Allen was the best pure edge rusher in this draft, but Ferrell isn't that far behind. Oakland had a big need at pass rusher after trading Khalil Mack for a first-round pick before last season. Ferrell should help the Raiders be more effective sacking the opposing QB this year.
