Isaac Guerendo Suffers Torn Pec, Could be Ready by End of Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo (pectoral) tore his pectoral muscle lifting weights around a month ago, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said that he could be ready at the end of training camp this summer, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Torn pectoral muscles typically end a player's season, so we're still a bit skeptical that the 25-year-old will be ready so soon. Even before his injury, the former fourth-rounder in 2024 out of Louisville had seen his stock drop considerably after not seeing a single offensive snap in Shanahan's offense in 2025 in his second year in the NFL. Brian Robinson Jr., who was the team's backup behind Christian McCaffrey last season, is now in Atlanta, but both Jordan James and rookie fifth-rounder Kaelon Black probably have a clearer path to RB2 duties in the Bay Area in 2026, especially now that Guerendo is going to miss the start of camp. Guerendo has elite speed and averaged 5.0 yards per carry on 84 rushing attempts in 16 games as a rookie, but his redraft and dynasty stock are currently at an all-time low.

Isaac Guerendo Could be a Drop Candidate in Dynasty Leagues in 2026

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo had 84 rushing attempts for 420 yards and four touchdowns in 16 regular-season games (three starts) in 2024 after the Niners took him in the fourth round of the NFL draft out of Louisville. He also added 15 receptions for 152 yards as a pass-catcher. The 25-year-old fell out of favor in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense in 2025, though, and All-Pro RB Christian McCaffrey stayed healthy all year long. Guerendo was limited to special teams duties and surprisingly didn't see a single touch on offense despite his elite speed. Brian Robinson Jr. handled the change-of-pace role to CMC. B-Rob is gone, but signs are pointing to Jordan Mason being the favorite for the RB2 job in the Bay Area in 2026, and rookie Kaelon Black could even jump Guerendo on the team's RB depth chart with a strong summer in training camp. McCaffrey could easily get hurt again in 20206, but even if he does, we can't say with any certainty that Guerendo would be next in line for a much bigger backfield role. A change of scenery might be what he needs to become relevant in dynasty leagues again. Guerendo has plummeted all the way to No. 99 in RotoBaller's RB dynasty rankings for the upcoming season.

Isaac Guerendo Buried on Depth Chart, Looking for New Team?

The Athletic's Vic Tafur writes that San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo, who was a fourth-round pick in 2024, "seems like he is buried" and will be "looking for a new team." The 49ers say that they will be looking to give Christian McCaffrey fewer touches in 2026, which is why they drafted rookie Kaelon Black in the third round. The Niners also have Jordan James, Patrick Taylor Jr., and Sincere McCormick in their RB room, leaving little playing time left for Guerendo. Black is expected to compete with James for the No. 2 role, so the 25-year-old Guerendo figures to be the RB4 in San Fran right now, at best. Guerendo carried the ball 84 times for 420 yards (5.0 yards per carry) and four touchdowns while adding 15 receptions for 152 yards through the air in 16 regular-season games (three starts), but he didn't see a single carry in 14 regular-season contests in Year 2 in 2025. He appears to be the odd-man out, making him a cut candidate in dynasty/keeper leagues going into the 2026 campaign.

Isaac Guerendo a Drop Candidate in Dynasty Leagues?

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo has emerged as a potential drop candidate as dynasty managers prepare for the offseason roster crunch. Between clearing taxi squad spots, adding players, and navigating rookie drafts, dynasty managers may need to make decisions about which rostered players to cut. Guerendo is a prime candidate after an underwhelming second season with the 49ers in 2025. He appeared in 14 games but played exclusively on special teams, never logging an offensive snap. He was buried on the depth chart behind Christian McCaffrey, Brian Robinson Jr., Jordan James, and even fullback Kyle Juszczyk. It was a surprising, harsh development for the Louisville product after he finished as the overall RB48 in PPR leagues with 572 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns in 2024. Evidently, the 49ers don't see Guerendo in their long-term plans, and it's hard to imagine he'll climb the depth chart in 2026, even with Robinson expected to hit free agency. Managers in most dynasty leagues should feel comfortable dropping the 25-year-old.

Jordan James Active for NFL Debut Over Isaac Guerendo

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan James is active for Monday's Week 16 contest against the Indianapolis Colts and is on track to make his NFL debut. The rookie had previously been a healthy scratch, but he's getting a chance to play on primetime television, perhaps in a mix of special teams and offensive depth roles. He's taking the spot of fellow rookie Isaac Guerendo, who is a healthy scratch for the first time in his young career. Guerendo has contributed on special teams this year, but he doesn't have an offensive snap yet. Both running backs remain buried on the depth chart behind Christian McCaffrey and Brian Robinson Jr.

Isaac Guerendo Still Hasn't Played an Offensive Snap in 2025

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo was thrust into action in his rookie season in the NFL in 2024 because Christian McCaffrey missed most of the year due to injuries. Guerendo finished with 84 rushing attempts for 420 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games (three starts) and also chipped in 15 catches on 16 targets as a pass-catcher for 152 yards. Fantasy managers probably viewed him as a pretty valuable handcuff for the injury-prone CMC going into 2025 drafts, but the Niners' acquisition of Brian Robinson Jr. before the season pretty much killed whatever fantasy appeal he had. Through the first seven weeks of his sophomore campaign, the 25-year-old former fourth-rounder has yet to play an offensive snap with CMC and B-Rob both staying healthy. Instead, Guerendo has been limited to a special teams role, returning five kickoffs for a combined 100 yards.

Isaac Guerendo Remains Without a Carry in 2025

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo recorded 572 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns on 99 total touches as a rookie in 2024. However, through five games in 2025, the 25-year-old has not played a single offensive snap. Guerendo is buried on the 49ers running back depth chart behind Christian McCaffrey and Brian Robinson Jr. As long as both McCaffrey and Robinson Jr. remain healthy, it appears unlikely that Guerendo's role in San Francisco's offense is going to change. Guerendo maintains some appeal in dynasty leagues, but he should remain off the radar of redraft fantasy managers for the time being.

Isaac Guerendo's Role Unlikely To Change In Week 4

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo has yet to see an offensive snap in 2025, and there is little reason to expect that to change in Week 4. Christian McCaffrey is the team's unquestioned starter, and Brian Robinson Jr. has the second position on the depth chart locked down. The team's official depth chart lists both Guerendo and rookie Jordan James as the third-string running back, raising the question of which of the two would be given an opportunity in the backfield should the need arise. In the meantime, Guerendo has been relegated to kick return duty. Through three games, he has taken back four kicks for a grand total of 82 yards. Until an injury shakes up the depth chart, Guerendo has no place on fantasy football rosters.

Isaac Guerendo Stuck in Special-Teams Role?

San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo entered the 2025 season as a prime handcuff for fantasy managers who were looking to score Christian McCaffrey at a discount early in drafts. However, Guerendo's fantasy value took a massive hit when the Niners acquired Brian Robinson Jr. from the Washington Commanders. B-Rob has been McCaffrey's backup through two weeks, relegating Guerendo to a distant RB3 role. In the Week 2 win over the New Orleans Saints, the 25-year-old didn't play a single snap on offense, with all 17 of his snaps coming on special teams. Guerendo averaged a healthy 5.0 yards per carry on 84 rushing attempts for 420 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games (three starts) as a rookie in 2024 when CMC was bothered by injuries, but currently, he's well off the fantasy radar in single-year leagues going into Week 3 against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals.

Isaac Guerendo's Week 1 Role In Flux

Second-year running back Isaac Guerendo opens the season third on the 49ers' depth chart, though he may already see more action than originally anticipated. Christian McCaffrey (calf) popped up on the team's injury report this week and is tagged as questionable for San Francisco's Week 1 matchup against the Seahawks. Guerendo's only route to fantasy relevance relies on CMC sitting. If that does happen, then he can be seen as a deep-league flex candidate. Brian Robinson Jr. will likely draw the start, but Guerendo made his mark in 2024 in similar circumstances and is a potential RB4/5 pending McCaffrey's status.
