The Green Bay Packers signed former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs to a four-year, $48 million deal on Monday that includes $16 million guaranteed, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Hobbs will head to the NFC North after spending the first four years of his career with the Raiders after they made him a fifth-round selection (167th overall) in 2021 out of Illinois. Hobbs played in only 11 games (seven starts) for Vegas in his final year with the team in 2024 and recorded a career-low 49 tackles (33 solo), an interception and five pass breakups. He established himself as a solid slot cornerback in his first three years with the Raiders, though, and has 281 total tackles (200 solo), three sacks, 14 tackles for loss, eight QB hits, three interceptions, 19 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in his four seasons. Hobbs will essentially be replacing Jaire Alexander in 2025.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to target cornerback early in free agency this offseason, team sources told Penn Live's Nick Farabaugh. Specifically, the Steelers are expected to pursue Nate Hobbs, who has a lot of experience with new defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander from their time together with the Las Vegas Raiders. Other names tossed around by sources at the NFL Combine last week that could be pursued by the Steelers include D.J. Reed, Carlton Davis, and Charvarius Ward. The Steelers are also leaving the door open for Donte Jackson to return, but it's not a priority with free agency right around the corner. In addition to a strong crop of free-agent cornerbacks, the Steelers could also look to address the position through the draft.
Nate Hobbs, Kolton Miller Won't Return For Raiders Sunday
Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs (ankle) and left tackle Kolton Miller (ankle) have been ruled out for the remainder of Week 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Both players were initially listed as questionable upon exiting but eventually downgraded to out. Hobbs had registered five tackles prior to his departure, bringing his season total to 43. Darnay Holmes and Decamerion Richardson should earn more defensive snaps for the duration of Hobbs' absence. On the offensive side of the ball, Miller's departure is bad news for Gardner Minshew II and Alexander Mattison. He had not previously missed a snap this season. Miller was initially replaced by Andrus Peat at left tackle, but then Peat exited with an ankle injury of his own, leaving Thayer Munford and Delmar Glaze as the Raiders' only healthy tackles.
Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs earned the game ball in Saturday's preseason victory over the LA Rams after he made a big interception that easily changed the course of the game. The 22-year-old Illinois product intercepted a pass to LA's Tutu Atwell in the third quarter that set the Raiders up for a drive that would help them tie the game up and go on to win. Hobbs has been making the most out of his first NFL preseason, adding four combined tackles to the stats sheet in Saturday's 17-16 victory.
Las Vegas Raiders rookie cornerback Nate Hobbs is developing into a front-runner for a starting job, head coach Jon Gruden told the media over the weekend. The comments were made after the fifth-round pick out of Illinois recorded a first-quarter sack in Saturday's preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The CB1 slot is currently open since veteran Nevin Lawson will open up the season serving a two-game suspension, leaving Hobbs and second-year corner Amik Robertson competing for the job. With early praise from Gruden, it is worth keeping an eye on Hobbs to see if he can nail down that starting role.
